  1. Day 1. I got a bad case of "scrapbookers block."

  2. My grandson sent me many pictures of his Southeast Asia 3 month vacation. The map is from Google with two pictures merged. The plane is a Preset shape, the palm tree is AI, the escape circle is from Marisa Lerin as well as the location markers. The paper materials and the plaid are my own. The suitcase is from an LSJ kit.

  3. DAY 2 - LEFT HAND MAP PAGE - 3 Photos: Ripley's Aquarium Canada; The Pink Floyd Exhibition at the Canada Day Fair; my 2 travelers showcasing the Toronto harbor with the CN Center. (There are two different shots like this; the other has the city skyscrapers out the CN 360 windows. I suspect the backgrounds were changed but the women remained the same! ? ) This map was treated to a soft light layer effect. I snagged the Ripley logo and used multiply to place it on of our photos. I used various metallic gradients on the photo frames. I used Cassel's Datestamp 13. I'll probably be adding more elements later in the class as I recall we get to create some that are appropriate to the trip.

  4. This is the RV park that we are staying at while waiting for the house. It is pretty nice.

  5. Day 2 I needed to look up how to make parts of the template into masks but did so in the end for the photos. That same thing-'practice makes perfect!' I didn't need to do a trail of where we had been as my journey was from England to Oludeniz, Turkey however I must admit I likewise found the instruction to layer the routes difficult to understand should I have wanted to do trails here and there. This is when a video of how it's done comes in handy. I think it's just me though, not grasping the idea, not your instructions, Carole!

  6. @Cassel second attempt of day 1. This time I used google maps, and I think I followed the explanation well. ?

  7. I'm finally getting back in the game. I kept looking at this challenge and had the hardest time to make something work. Too many bits for my taste, but good for me to try. I did not cadge any pix from Sue T (who is back for a while, I see - nice!) only picked them up online from Pixabay. Some insects are more "lovable" to me than others, but I would never hurt one or use any sprays. I kill only mosquitoes. Everything else gets trapped in a bug catcher and taken outside, even if my skin crawls to do it. Shiver. I just played with this, threw a bunch of colours and arrangements of layers around, and this is what I got. I'm not delighted, but I just wanted to DO IT! I have been watching all the amazing layouts and creative work going on. So much good stuff, and so uplifting to see. And some new names and faces too. That's great.

  8. Day 2. The elusive Carmen Sandiego slipped away to Tokyo. Argh! Where will she go next, and can this gumshoe find her and return the Crown Jewels? The flight path on the map is outdated. Russia closed its airspace and the current route is over the North Pole. The change adds at least two hours to a flight that is already twelve hours long.

  9. I'm a bit late but I'm doing this workshop (or the former challenge) for the 3 time now and I used knowing what is coming to make day1 and 2 before I submitted my layout. Now I haven't have to come back to it later to add some more things like the route we took. I used the template from day one but changed it for my needs. As embellishments I used the state flags, colors, seals, flowers and birds, which I already had downloaded for my album about my journey to America earlier this year. I will use my photos and I'll try to pick different ones then in my album. As usual I won't use photos from my family, I don't like to blur their faces.

  11. @Marie-Claire I love how you colored the two places in your 1st layout as well as your second! @Bonnie Ballentine The way you highlighted the areas you visited in color & with pointers, genius! @Suzy I love the texture and your colors choices! I am sorry it was a terrible trip, those are the absolute worst. Thank you too for your compliment to my Layout, so very kind of you. One-Way indeed .. Well, for at least a few months. HaHaHa .. Getting away from the farm and its demands sounds divine! @Anita Wyatt I can't wait to hear more about the red hat! @fiona cook I love how you used the gradient to highlight! @Ann Seeber Your layout is fabulous! I hope they enjoyed their trip, and found beautiful weather? Thanks again for your brilliant suggestion! @Anja Pelzer Highlighting the two places looks great on your layout! @Michele I love those textures! My Mothers family was from Ireland, that is another place I would love to go as well! @Cassel Thank you so much! You should have seen my face when I came back to post my layout and suddenly remembered the posting specs! HaHaHa Ann's tip was the gamechanger, as I didn't think I could even post it! @Corrie Kinkel Love your layout! Perfectly placed elements and the use of several papers! @Donna Sillia Such a beautiful layout! Your use of elements & papers are fantastic too! @Gerry Landreth I love your layouts! Quite intriguing! I hope I didn't miss anyone! Day 1 was quite the success!

  12. Wonderful! Yes to the Dixon Gardens and I did peek in to the Cotton Museum because Laurie and I were preparing baskets of Memphis stuff back in 2008 to give to our folks as we travelled across the west and north - I got a little bale of cotton there for each of the baskets. We got FedEx keychains for our FedEx souvenir, and little Elvis Presley dolls for our Elvis souvenir, a jar of Corkey's Barbeque sauce also and little yellow duckies for the Peabody ducks. Glad you enjoyed my city.

  13. Yes, I thought you lived near there. Yes to all the above, we saw everything (no sports teams) except we just went to Graceland, not the bash. We just went because we had never been there before. Other things I remember, Germantown, an outlet mall including Williams -Sonoma, the little art museum, Sun Records….the entire Blues Trail, actually, and something to do with FedEx. I forget what that was. A stadium tour I think. I did mention it was a WEEK in Memphis, didn’t I? There was a downtown tornado, so we also got to see the cold concrete basement of our hotel, too! How about Dixon Gardens and The Cotton Museum? Have you been there? Most natives I’ve met have not is why I ask. We spent so long at the cotton museum that the guard/hostess got nervous. I think she thought we were going to steal all the cotton bolls! Hahaha! There is also a daffodil show there the second or third Saturday in March at Dixon gardens. Free and open to the Public. Don’t go right when it opens because judging always takes longer in the south, and they won’t let you in, LOL! ?? (judging takes longer in the south because the judges are so polite. They seem to have a hard time saying which flower is best, second best, or even not worth a ribbon at all.)

  15. Here is my Day One map/trip project featuring a jaunt my daughter and granddaughter took from Pennsylvania, USA, to Toronto, CA, last week. Their route goes from Matamoras, PA, to Newark Airport in NJ by car, and from there the flight to Toronto. I started out with the template but ended up paring it down a lot. I like playing with maps!

  16. @Anja Pelzer That is a fun way to show the two-way travel!! @Corrie Kinkel It is quite alright to blur faces for displaying them here. You will likely keep an unblurred version to share with them! @Donna Sillia Isn't it nice to see all that you can create from scratch now? I love that! @Marie-Claire Nice map. I thought the other map you used was great too. I think that Google map is one resource but there are many others too. @Gerry Landreth My kids used to have a computer game of "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego". That brings so many memories! @Michele It is ok if you don't remember the source of something. I have also been collecting supplies for almost 15 years so you can imagine that I don't have the sources either. @fiona cook I had plans to make videos but ran out of time. Maybe next time around? @Ann Seeber You are correct: throughout the workshop, you will get a chance to go back and tweak the previous layouts to add elements.

  20. Thank you, Mary! It was supposed to look like the road maps from the 1950s and 60s, ,but I realized that the old map was VERY light and only the state borders were darker, as if the were outlined with one of those thick chisel tip markers. I would have LOVED to do that, but holy cow, it would be a LOT of work, so I used a different layer and just lightened them then put the black overlay on top. (So I can change the colors if it becomes necessary…I think I might have a lot of red, white and blue photos, but I don’t remember. I just sent the whole lot of them from my phone to Dropbox so I can pick them up with my desktop.) You’ll have to stay tuned for the terrible trip part, but know I am the world’s worst travel agent. Someday I’ll make a book about my week long vacation to Memphis. Michele, that texture on your Ireland map is delicious! How did you do it? and I borrowed your location marker idea, too, Bonnie! Jenifer Lyn, such a beautiful, intricate LO. I had to go to Photobucket to take it all in! A one-way ticket, though? Your family would be devastated! The rest of you have awesome maps and so exotic! everybody’s is so professional looking. What always strikes me is how we all have the same directions, and every single one is so different from the next!

  21. Before I go to the Travel Challenge Workshop, I finished my work with Lab 11 Mod 6. Stitched Shape, Double Scallop Rectangle (I really wanted to make one as a circle, but wasn't able to manage it), surfboard (I did 3). All done. I used the title from one of the Vector Workshop layouts, the sun sticker from another lab. The background water paper was one I made in my Chattanooga album. The picture was taken by Laurie.

  22. A VERY big thank you to Ann, I am now able to at least share a bit of what I created! ❥ Day 1 I haven't been outside of the farm in ages. So I chose a vacation that I have dreamed of since I was a little girl, Fashion Week in Paris! I spent countless hours with my Auntie, watching all the fashion shows & cutting favorites from magazines, to save in a box for future inspiration. We would frequent our most treasured fabric store to touch and feel the newest trends, all the while dreaming it was me that was to model in those lovely dresses and my Auntie and I that would sew them. I was no more the model than a couture seamstress, so instead, I clung to my roots and farmed instead! HaHaHa I am so used to making my projects at 3600X3600 and though resizing, not having to watch the actual file size. I went just a little too far on this first day, that I had to lower the quality by quite a bit. I added the original to my Photobucket HERE , if you would like to see the original size & quality. (I will place all my regular sized files in this folder from the Campus, so please feel free to take peeks as you wish). * I have been using challenges and now these workshops as well, for compiling some of my better pieces, to show in my new shop. This allows me to get 2 tasks done at the same time, and in it, saving much time. Fonts used are: AdornS Condensed Sans & P22 Typewriter

  23. i will not probably participate in this challenge but I have been tried to play with a very, very simple mockup. I used a free template and a shot of my friend. He plays guitar. I've played a bit with the photo.

  24. This was a quick easy one, once I found photos that had similar colours to the Palette. The norm for me is firstly choosing photos, and not the other way round. the B7b44e was used in the bottom element, where I used a photo, overlay soft light, luckily it retained most of the colour in the palette. The frames around the photos and the text paper is dce6e7. Decorative frame is 9bc0de. Background papers are 40524b and 618a84. Out of bounds, inner bevel on decorative frame, a little noise on the background papers to give a little texture. The little female in the middle photo, (I think she is a juvenile) is in a state of torpor, all fluffed up. I put their feeders out at 5.45am, as I fetch them indoors at night, as the evenings can get quite chilly, and the last thing they want is chilled feed. I gently picked her up, warmed her in my hands for a couple of minutes, placed her back on the perch, next to the feeder. She was fine, ready to start the day after a long feed of sugar water. I don't scimp on the sugar either. Every year the hummers arrive by the 3rd August, they stay for the whole of August before embarking on their long journey south. The feeders stay out until mid September just in case stragglers pass through. They are truly flying gems, with amazing powers of flight and often glittering iridescent colours. To me when they arrive, I know that Autumn is quite literally around the corner.

  25. Thank you, Carole. If it weren't for your classes and workshops, I wouldn't be able to make my own elements and papers. I haven't been downloading so many kits since there is so much I can make myself.

  29. Wow, this is great news, @Jenifer Lyn. I always grab Alphas when I find them; can never have too many! Like Michele, I like layered templates, also. And Frames! Who can resist frames? Will explore your creations with interest! Good luck! ?

  30. How exciting Jenifer! Congratulations. I love buttons. i dont know why, since I cant sew at all. I love old keys, vintage stuff. Old cameras (I have a fairly good size collection, yet to be photographed. I like flowers too, but recently I have being photographing flowers in my studio for extraction. Oh, ribbons too and bows. I'm sure i'll think of other stuff. I'll post if I do.

  31. Michele, I do not think it’s your fault on the font info. The font designers, e.g. shareware, and stores didn’t make it as easy as it is now to keep track. That is a loverly design and so is the ones with your cousins…nice job on that fold! Sue and Michele, I’ll pull the edges out and get working. I think I have some photos they would go well with in my Travel Takes book.

  32. Ditto. That double scallop is really nice, and so are the wonky stitched circles! I might have to go to that Lab and see if I can do these, too! ( along with scripting and Travel Tales, LoL! Good th8ng the weather is so hideous here! ) The water paper is also really, really nice. I remember that from Chattanooga, but now it looks like ocean water. ?

  33. @Marie-ClaireJust out of curiosity, did you use Google Map? It seems different than what I would expect, and it is really nice! @Bonnie Ballentine Interesting how you added those shadings for the areas instead of "just" the pointer. So we will become spectators for your tournaments? @SuzyWith such a title, it will surely be piquing everyone's curiosity! @Anita Wyatt That will be so much fun. I have heard of a plush toy going on trips and posing for various shots, but never heard of a hat doing the same. That will be definitely interesting! @fiona cook It is amazing how changing a solid color to a gradient gives a totally different look! I love that! @Ann Seeber Fun interpretation. It is ok and welcomed when we start with a template and customize it. @Jenifer Lyn Just a note that although it is recommended to resize to 600 pixels, if you have a double page, you can probably go to 1000 pixels and the system will allow it. Shrinking a double page to 600 pixels is like resizing a full-size page to 300 pixels. So go ahead and show off! @Anja Pelzer Simple and clean. That bevel adds just the perfect level of 3D effect! @Michele That "boring" page has a lot of character. That watercolor texture is great. Where did you get it? Keep them coming. As you can see, everyone has a different take on the same tutorials, and every project is inspiring others. And to me, even the "boring" projects, are very interesting!

  36. Day 1. I'm a little late starting mine but am focusing on a holiday to southern Turkey this year. Should have used the same map for my background and to make my Turkey overlay as they are slightly different in perspective. The examples shown so far from you all look inspiring. I have used a gradient fill for my main shape and added the shadow.

  39. Hi Susan! I live on a farm indeed. I love it. I sure bet you miss it at times, there is nothing like it. Most acreage is used for agriculture (wheat this year) and a handful of horses and cattle closer to the homestead. I also have a vegetable garden and many fruit tress. I love to make my own jams and pickles. Then of course the pickled okra! Yummy! I am just over an hour away from the big city, so when I have to go for groceries, appointments, etc. I make a full day of it so that I can stay afloat for a month or two. The cities are just getting too large for my taste anymore. Where do you live now?

  44. I didnt even know google did that until read someone on the campus using it. All this time I couldnt read the comments. One day the computer programs will know our own native language and translate autmatically. That would put the AI's to a good use.

  45. Occasionally I've popped into the campus. Everyone has been very creative. My family at home have said the same thing about the weather, they too have had a great deal of rain. Not the summer they were hoping for. I was home this time last year, and the heather on the mountains were blooming then. Rachael sent me some pics of the heather on Mynydd Yr Gaer only yesterday, which she took whilst out exercising the horse.

  46. It has been a hot, dry summer, we've had less than a 1/4 inch of rain since last year. With less and less snow each winter these past 4 yrs. Between my outdoor activities, kayaking, riding, cycling, photography, gardening I've been ploding away doing cards, 2024 calendars, and advent calendars. As I'm going home for December and January. I'm also doing calendars for my little granddaughters using the photos I took of them when I was home last year. Sifting, sorting, and selection photos to keep from this year's many thousands of shots is a laborious, time consuming job too. So all in all it's been and still is a busy summer, but I will continue to be active while I'm still able. The hummers have arrived for 3-4 weeks, making their long trip back south, some birds are already starting to flock too.

  47. @Sue Thomas, I'm very glad to see you back in the campus with all those wonderful photos in equally beautiful layouts! I wasn't too worried not seeing you here for so long, after all this more or less happens each summer and sometimes in winter too, depending on the weather conditions. I hope the weather at your place will remain good for some time so you have more time to shot more photos, enjoy your animals, go kayaking etc. Here we have a very strange summer, juni was exceptionally hot and juli was cold and had so much rain that there was some flooding in certain areas. The plus is that the heather is blooming fantastic and rather early. Of course I made photos which will appear in layouts in the coming months. Now I'm following the scripting course, we just started but I can already see it's very appealing. Scripts are made in another "language" which is very logical as far as I can see and being a beta that suits me to the T. But it is time consuming!

  48. I was wondering where you've been, @Sue Thomas. I should have figured it out after knowing you all these years. Looking forward to seeing the results of your summer photography.
