This year I used gnomes as a theme for my youngest grandsons' Christmas Cards. The backgrounds are from CF and Canva. The front letters are pngs from CF which were stacked using Carole's Alpha Stacking script and then entered into the Text Creator script. The candy cane frame is my own from my Build a kit 2. The purple belt Taekwondo gnome is from Adobe Express AI in honor of Thomas just receiving his purple belt. The inside gnome is from CF, and the candy cane letters are from my alphas in Build a Kit 2. I did not save the name of the inside font but it is from CF.4 points

Week 51 The little town where I live goes in for quite a lot of Christmas decorations which is lovely and helps cheer up the short days of December. A new addition this year was this reindeer in the florist’s shop window. It made me smile when I first saw it – just because it’s so cute. Having taken the photo I had to laugh when I noticed the way the phone number is positioned – perhaps it’s a hot line in case anyone recognises a reindeer who slid of a roof, banged its head, and can’t remember who it is…3 points

When our Church added on two additions right & left of the original, the ladies in the office wanted to know if I could create a unobstructed view of the whole thing. Whew, it became quite a challenge. I could not get nearly far enough back to get the whole thing because of large trees. I took several picks from the sames location, and some from different places but at the same distance. I finally got it the best I could and they were very happy with it. It has been used many times. (the bricks on the new part are darker so that is not a mistake).3 points

N = Night of Nights I thought this was fascinating: "The Night of Nights is celebrated annually every July 12. It commemorates when the last commercial Morse code transmission in the U.S. was sent. Many years ago messages, usually in Morse code, were transmitted by radio waves. Through the efforts of the Maritime Radio Historical Society (M.R.H.S.), West Marin’s historic Morse code radio station KPH returns to the air for a day and transmits in Morse code from 5:01 pm to midnight. Listeners wait to hear the signals of the great station once again fill their receivers. Many will join the M.R.H.S. at the receiving station at the Point Reyes National Seashore to marvel as the signals are transmitted by hand using vintage telegraph keys."2 points

Well I took the plunge and decided to replace my PC with something that will support any challenge that software can throw at it...robust video capability and memory, expandable to 128GB RAM, etc. etc.into the future. I fully expect this will be the last PC I ever buy. Currently finishing the FULL backup of this one. Already did the setup and backed up the new one. In about 2 or 3 hours I'll be starting the migration software that is supposed to move all my software and files from this Windows 10 system to the new Windows 11 machine (seamlessly) and that will probably take a LONG time. With any luck it will be done in time for me to join you all in the master class tomorrow evening but if not, that will be the reason I didn't make it. Take Care. - Dan1 point

I had never thought about why Thanksgiving is on a Thursday in the US until you questioned it. So I looked it up. And, this is what I found: In 1789 Pres. George Washington decreed Thursday, November 26, as a day of public thanksgiving, but, in the years that followed, the holiday bounced informally from month to month and date to date. The last Thursday in November became the norm in 1863 with a declaration by Pres. Abraham Lincoln. Evidently in 1938 President Roosevelt changed it to the third Thursday in November. It wasn't popular so in 1941 President Roosevelt signed a resolution establishing the fourth Thursday in November as the Federal Thanksgiving Day holiday. And, that change eventually led to the unofficial "Black Friday" holiday... that now is a multi-week event and spawned Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday.1 point

In your country (or in your family), what is the story about Santa? Or what other character is associated with Christmas? This might be another of those informative chitchats! Let's share.1 point

Just a question, did you bring a gift 🎁 and who ended up with it? 😉1 point

It was Thanksgiving weekend, in Canada. I know in the US it is in November. What other countries celebrate a variation of Thanksgiving? When is it? How is it celebrated? Share your stories here (and photos are welcome).1 point

I tore up all my late husband's undershirts to use for rags instead of paper towels. Especially helpful for cat barf! 😁 Easy to throw in the wash every week.1 point

Here in Western Kentucky, we are fairly fortunate in that we experience all four seasons. I've lived places where Winters are long and cold with alot of ice and snow and Summers are short and humid. I've also lived in Alaska where nights can get as long as the winter LOL. I have no complaints this year.1 point

Art sorry to hear this and good to see that you had the courage to finish his model boat. My husband has made some too but don't want to start on a new one because he is afraid that he never will finish it in the rest of his lifetime. By the way it is nice seeing you here again!1 point

My main hobby back in the 1980's was doing needle work projects like counted cross stitch or using plastic canvas and yarn. I did mostly counted cross stitch. I did a lot of birth samplers for the births of cousins' children or wedding samplers for friends. I got a magazine with patterns every month and they were usually quick and simple projects in series that were released over the span of several months. One of those series was for the 50 states. I made 3 of the Ohio (one for Mom, one for me, one for Grandpa). I made a Florida for Grandpa. Other states I made for gifts included Texas, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Michigan. Then I got the bright idea to make each state and have a quilt made from them. My step-grandmother had done quilting and was willing to do it. So I started making the states in 1990 and got 13 of them done. Then I left the job I had (it was a 2nd shift secretarial job in a hospital and during slow times the tech and I would cross-stitch). Then I went back to school and got a different job. No more time for this hobby. Then my step-grandmother passed away. So I left the idea of the quilt behind. A couple weeks ago a scrapbooking designer friend kept posting about a cross stitch project she was doing and it got me interested in it again. So I dug my stuff out and found a sampler that was about half completed so I started working on it again. I also found that I had actually started my 14th state for the quilt and will work on it next. I do want to finish all 50 states and will have to figure out how to display them since I don't know anyone local that quilts. I was thinking of a wall hanging but I saw an idea yesterday in a cross stitch sub-reddit that really intrigues me. That person showcases projects they don't frame in a portfolio. So now I'm thinking of using a scrapbook for this project! As for DIY stuff like your project, I don't do things like that!!!1 point

Yah I know but I think not opting out is the worst option, and maybe they will keep word, because they have sent a confirmation of my choice. I simply do NOT like my stuff being used in whatever way without my explicit consent,1 point

I was short on time and creativity last night when I decided to use the Painted Background script and it saved the day. It uses the colors from the photo of your choice and gives you brush options to choose from. I've used it before and I love it. So the next time you need a unique paper, try this script.1 point

and it should be! The more people that find the campus and the store and Corel will only benefit us all and hopefully you really will, because you put tireless effort into all the great resources you've given to us. You should be well compensated for that. I'm a book lover, I'll be buying no matter what.1 point

Wow. So much awesome ideas. I have loads of old family photos of my parents and no clue who anyone is (other than my parents and grandparents). They are all gone now. Wish I was into that sooner so I could have asked more questions. I guess that's why I never actually scrapped physically, because I come from a photo arts background (and handmade books/paper) so I was more interested in the art aspect of layouts...as I am now. The only family members i've digitally scrapped is my cats. Yikes eh!1 point

@Cassel The YouTube video had me I going to the store, looking for the calendar script and it told me I already had it. I haven't used it yet so now I'm wondering if my version needs to be updated somehow?1 point
-
I also have the original script. Which I bought back in 2016, or there about. I have never encountered an issue with it. That is strange, the script has worked on several versions of Windows. On the other hand I have issues with the 2 date stamps, and the alignment. Carole and I have tired to fix it, but to no avail. I wonder if there is something within the system which throws elements of the scripts out of wack. I'm thinking aloud here, as I don't know anything about making scripts, and it's coding.1 point

Julie First off, you are so close don't quit! As for the puzzle pieces you don't have to do anything to them. If you look at the file name of each piece they will go into the puzzle frame nicely with piece #1 being top left corner, #2 next to it, #3 next to #2 etc with the last piece being the bottom right corner. Clue #9 has been mentioned multiple times in this thread. Suzy has even posted screen shots where the answer was given in the blog but no balloons. As I told her... go "older". She was in the right area. And, from Carole's post #82583 "– some pieces will be in the blog, but several will be in other sections available through the menu." For all those struggling... did you know that there are some tips and tricks available outside of classes and Diamond membership? I didn't but I do know that now!1 point
