Project 3. A bit late with this one .Puppies again I am afraid ! 5 weeks old on here, growing fast and now exploring time out of the whelping box under the watchful eye of Mum. I have used Gina Jones Fido elements and papers along with Nit Wits papers. I have duplicated the flower and layered them .Hope everyone is having as much fun as me !

Can't always access the same resources as shown in the video, but I have downloaded some. This was last year when we had a nurses reunion in Cornwall, so a found a poem to go with it. Lost the will to live as it crashed on me twice (did that last night) so haven't changed the drop shadows between elements, but it was interesting how to do this. Are there still the download sheets for each lesson?

Project #4 This time it is all about The Wall and Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin during the Cold War. When we visited there it was a rather gray day, fitting for the feel of the place, it was a bit gloomy! All the papers are from Marissa Lerin gl-20 kit and I didn't use the brighter colors only the more subdued. The tank is a sticker I found on digitalscrapbook.com; the stop sign comes from Travel by DB Magnolia; the fonts are Berlin and Montana rough; the stamp is again made with my own stampscript and I made some paintsplashes .

Project 4 Day 9 Well, that is something new I learned today, making that pinking shears effect, thank you, Carole. A few years ago, I was at an afternoon tea at Ohinetahi in Governors Bay, near Christchurch. I arrived home with several pictures of honey bees I'd seen hovering around the flower beds. I decided to use them in this layout. Supplies used were from Jessica Dunn, Rachel Martin, Marisa Lerin, and Violet Irisovna. Jeni

I used my bee flowers in my last bootcamp and had to search for pictures to use. I am trying to use the kits that I have, but always seem to have something missing. The background and the papers are from Marisa Lerin. The pictures are my own. I made the bee from a font called Bee cute and the title from a font called Kid Zone both from Creative Fabrica. I love the cass stripes 2 script because I can pick the colors from my project and make stripes that match. I don't care for those pointy things on the black layer so I used the cass script quick scallops. The blue things are sequins and the pink flowers are tubes that I made using the cass script directional tubes.

Project 4 I dug in my photos and found some photos from a short trip several years ago, a visit to the 'State Pen'. It was a planned trip, so it was fun. I used a bunch of random papers and I guess that is how it looks! I should have planned better. I will try to use a kit next time. I am running to another doctor appointment today, so out of time now.

Day 9 This was fun again 🙂 One day we came across the same mill and the "wings" were gone. It took some while to repair (high costs) but now it is again in it's full glory 🙂 I used some elements found on Creative Fabrica, all Dutch things this country is famous for. The waffle is a "stroopwafel" as we call it. Papers where all in my stash. Font is Holland 😉 and Hot mustard (The thick one) I totally forgot how we learned in previous bootcamps to add an edge around a photo with the magic wand, I tend to use mats 🙂 Was a good reminder 🙂 🙂

Yesterday was a beautiful day, sun shining as it almost always does. Generating more and more heat every day, brought out the first of the ground squirrels. Temperature raised to +13c. Of course I had to take photos of them, also fed them with carrots and nuts. Which they filled their cheeks with to take back to their burrows. The three that emerged were half grown, undoubtedly born later in the season last year. There was a bitter cold wind today, which meant they weren't going to venture out. At least yesterday they had a chance to replenish their larders. Continuing with the topic of photography, when I take photos there are several thoughts on my mind, such as visualizing how the shot will look. Lighting, distracting objects, angle and so on. Hoping to take a shot that will appeal to a wide audience, evoke emotion and compel myself and any viewer to keeping looking. In my opinion, that is the essence of a good photo. The same applies to my layouts. When you create layouts, what thoughts run through your mind?

I'm a bit early with my week12 but I don't think it will be getting much better then this. We have lovely Spring days at the moment and there is so much coming into flower. Yesterday we went to the "Heemtuin" in a nearby village where a large natural garden is created which only has wild flowers, trees and shrubs that are native for this area. I was able to take a lot of photos, so in other projects I will use many more. This photo is of a Prunus variety.

You most certaily do! It goes to show how observant you are. Taking the time to actually look at the page, as subtle as that detail is. It is a snow scene from out in the horses field. I achieved what I set out to do, it made you really look. As I stated in my previous comment ( ground squirrels).

My intention was to have the mills from Far away to close by, but the photo I used wasn't good enough for it. So the mills differ in size, but not as intended. Font is Chartz Kit I used was an old one from PS-Rachel-Martin , the mill sticker is from an old "Holland" scrapkit, the original was red, I changed it to blue.

Today a flock of around 30 Redpolls stopped off en route north for a feed. The snow is slowly going. It would appear I sparked some interest in the technique I used the other day and again in this layout. I've given some tips, but should anyone need more instruction, let me know. I created a word frame with a twist, outlined text on the letters R and F, lifted the one comrer. I forgot to mention that I created the letterboard, in the previous layout, matching the colour of the wood frame with the ground squirrels.

Over the hump: page four of my seven stocks project. On peanut butter. Any fans here? Supplies myself, fonts again Pacifico on title and Lato on body. By now I think I need an extra double page spread before the initial page one on canned tuna and move the first part of the text on page one to that preceding page...( questions...) project.

Scrap Bootcamp-Day 9-Project #4. I rotated the photos as I had horizontal ones from my daughter's ski vacation in Colorado last week. Aaron and Deb were visiting her daughter-in-law, Lucy's parents; Magic & Raja's other grandparents. The background is also her photo. The title fonts are Belisha and Birdy. The troll, gem scatters and skis are from my Iceland mega kit.

Hi all, I can't remember my toys before I was 6, but after that - it was post-war - we children mostly played outdoors or with household objects. There was no money in our large family for toys and children's books. The grandparents usually only gave us useful things, like clothes. We played almost exclusively with small toys, marbles, cards and balls, which we bought at fairs for little money. I then did a lot of drawing with my school supplies (my dream career at the time was "fashion illustrator"😁) or cutting out jewelry from catalogs. I loved reading and always devoured my new school books at the beginning of a new school year. It was only in a children's treatment that I learned beautiful fairy tale books I know, see Scrap. Things were getting better for us in the mid-1960s, then Legos, a melodica and knitting toys and the TV came along. I never had dolls, more like living "baby dolls". From the age of 6 I had to work as a co-teacher act... Today my husband and I fondly remember our childhood toys and adventures in nature. I think by playing in nature we have trained our imagination much more and been able to live out our urge to move.

Adding elements can be tricky, as I feel they have to be in keeping with the page, at the same time complimenting the page. As you say some elements are non descript. I totally agree the page has to be balanced. The photos direct me, helping me to create an even flow to the page. The photo will envoke the memory of taking the shot, such as what the weather was like at the time. I get the impression that you tend to overthink, I wonder if it's because you are still evolving your own unique style.

Beautiful and oh so sweet. What runs through my mind when creating layouts? Usually if I'm adding elements I think, "does this/these element(s) make sense with what I'm trying to say with this layout". Sometimes, I will add a surprise element in a corner or on a frame, somewhere in the layout. For example I've put a very owl small on top of a frame, or a cat in the corner of a layout that isn't about cats...sort of like "Easter eggs" in films (definition below). I try to make it look balanced and with fonts I try not to over "glyph" them. It's still a struggle at times and a learning process for me. Some I like and some I just don't like. Of course there are elements that are non-descript and fit any layout, like flowers and buttons and fasteners etc. Usually I have a photo(s) and the layout evolves from me thinking about it when I'm not where near the computer. If I sit down and say I'm going to make a layout, I come down with "blank page" syndrome and other times I already have a theme or concept in mind. Like the layout I did recently called IGNITE, it was in my head for some time, and that time (when I had to do photography for it and go to work and do regular life things) is where it really evolved when I'm doing non computer mundane things, more ideas pop into my head. Why are Easter eggs in films called Easter eggs? It is believed the name derives from the idea of going on a traditional Easter egg hunt - the task of finding an object that has been concealed with the intention of it being found.

After seeing this beautiful layout I'm BEGGING you to please continue as you are doing. I think this challenge is pretty relaxed on rules and that makes it why I wanted to do it.

Scrap Bootcamp Day 7 - Project #3 I loved using the guides to line up the photos.

Styles also evolve. My beginning layouts were a lot like what is being done in the Boot Camp course. Over the years I have changed but yet still mainly do what I call a "clean style". But the embellishments I add have changed over the years. Even now my style is evolving as I'm learning to put together clusters of flowers/greenery/ribbons/other elements on my own that are pleasing to my eye. They are usually small clusters and/or minimal embellishments. They don't overwhelm the photos and the story behind the photos. Once in awhile I will do a layout that has more clusters that are larger than normal when I feel the photo will work well with that kind of layout. It took me years to get to where I am today! My first layout was done on December 30, 2007 and has 3 photos (with rounded corners!) and a title. That's it. Nothing else.

Susan, that you overthink was an issue with the scripting course as well and at the same time you instinctively know what to do. So try to find your own "style" and I know that such a thing is easier said then done, I struggle with it myself. But in the end we will get there with all the positive comments and help we are getting here in this lovely community.

yes, that is it. I think I am still experimenting with styles. I definitely dont have a style as yet. I often sit back in my chair so I'm farther away from the screen and just look at it and see where my eye goes or if I feel it's not quite right. I think I probably overthink. I never thought it could be because I don't have a style; which if I did (have a style) it would be more instinctive to know where something needs to go. Soon as Build A Kit workshop is over I am looking forward to getting back to the Notebook Labs again which means more layouts!

I love that you are doing each lesson with same colour scheme and puppies - it will make it easier to focus on new techniques and not spend ages hunting for photos and papers. These look great!

I read Corrie's story (and enjoyed it). It reminded me of my own very young childhood. I wasn't a dolly girl (much to my mother's chagrin b/c she loved making outfits for the dolls she bought me). I played with dolls (and later Barbie), but my favourite activity was playing in the open fields in our small village with lots of other kiddies, especially cowboys and Indians (which is not very politically correct anymore.) We all had holsters and fake six-guns and pretended to ride on stalliions and shoot each other! (We all survived and none of us has ever used a gun since.) Back in the 1950s, early 1960s, TV westerns were very popular on TV. I would watch them with my dad, night after night, when we weren't watching hockey or boxing or Ed Sullivan. (I was a tomboy, can you tell?) According to a bit of research, TV westerns on the three major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS) numbered over a 100 for a period of eleven or twelve years. Because most of our TV channels came from the US, we were a captive audience. This layout is my attempt to capture those days of B&W TV when I was a cowgirl, with some of the favourites everyone was watching.

Although I have played with many toys like dolls, (a dolls house that my dad build for me) there is one all time favorite: LEGO! When I was a child Lego was a new brand with those colored plastic blocks and it was considered a toy for boys, but luckily my parents were tolerant and I got it too. At that time it was just the blocks and bottom plates. There were bigger boxes with different colors and dimensions of the blocks, but also small boxes. Those small boxes were affordable for children to buy with their pocket money and I did bought one whenever I had enough money! On all my wish lists for birthdays and Sinterklaas I had Lego on top and in the end I had a huge collection. When I had little kids, they started with the Duplo blocks and later with my old collection and like me loved to play with Lego. Of course there were many new additions like the figures, themed boxes and technics. My son has played with the technical stuff for years and after my husband and I moved to a smaller house has adopted the collection. The big Duplo blocks went to the grandchildren when they were little and I my daughter brought those with here when they moved to the States and the grands have got their own Lego; there are so many themed sets on the market now. But I love the simple blocks were you have to use your imagination to build a world of your own! I have no photos to show, but found something on the net. For the layout I used a quickpage from Marissa Lerin and adapted it a bit because I have nothing in my stash that I could use. The font is Hobo, also a favorite of mine.

Here is my Week Ten, featuring a Photopolymer Etching by my daughter, Debbie Lennox, of her Big River Farm in Springtime that I converted to Grayscale just to see how that would work. The original is in tones of brown. The font is now Cardigan Script.

A combination of another photo from the Heemtuin with the split frame technique that Carole demonstrated in the Q&A from las Sunday. This is my first try of it and although it isn't perfect yet I wanted to show what I'm doing. I will practice a bit more, it is a bit different from the masks I normally do, at least I had fun making this.

You got horses! They make good photo subjects. any cows close to home right now...cows are awesome!

I can sit in my front yard to see it. I'm in Ohio. My cousin that lives in southeast Ohio is bringing her 2 granddaughters up for the weekend and to see the eclipse on Monday. They are so excited about it. All the schools in the area built the day off into their school calendar. The buses would be on the roads during the time leading up to the actual almost 4 minutes of the eclipse. My town is also expecting up to 70,000 people coming to see it (traffic nightmares for a town of 9,000). Estimates for the county are up to 130,000. The county only has 45,000 in population. The reason my town is expected to be the place to be is because it is the hometown of Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. We have a museum in town that is all things space and actually looks like a moon! The town is going all out with various events scheduled from Thursday to Monday. The city and county officials have put out lots of information about what to expect with the influx of people in town. They also suggest that we do all our grocery shopping, getting gas for the vehicles, prescriptions refilled etc before the weekend. Another thing they have talked about is the fact that the cell towers will be swamped with people trying to connect so service could be intermittent. They did say that if you can, we should connect our phones to wi-fi so that we would still have access in case of emergency. It really is interesting everything that the officials have been doing. They've been working on this for over 2 years to make sure they have everything covered. I can't wait!!! Here is a layout I did for a challenge at The Lily Pad in January that shows the path through Ohio.

Thank you Sue, Corrie and Rene. I am finding my tastes/styles in photography is changing too. What most has changed is my passion. Often now, putting creativity first and the fact that I did find a passion in the digital world which lead me back to the my first passion (photography). Now I understand my "real" artist friends (one's that are making their living from it) when they'd pull an all-nighter because they were in the zone. I get that now...although I'm too old to pull all-nighters...but I've been doing some late-late-lighters, especially when I have an idea and I have to get it out of my head (so that I can go to sleep).

I have not heard about anything like that near me. But then I wouldn't go if there was. I am not a fan of cats at all.

Although we have something similar in our neighboring city I have never been there and I don't know if it was a great succes or not. I don't see it mentioned anymore! But there is a new thing here called Yoga with puppies. The authorities are investigating because there is fear that the puppies don't get enough sleep! I definitively won't go there, poor puppies! Grownup cats oké, they do their own thing anyway.

This one is really pretty as are those Redpolls, mother nature really knows what she's doing when she creates. I love that background too; do I see a background photo through the pink textured paper as well?

Thank you, Carole, the photos are all the same size, and the waterfall I thought needed to be portrait, not landscape. The second one, the photos are all going the same way, so they probably work better. I rarely do long skinny pix, mostly I try for landscape, except when the subject demands a tall skinny pic, as per the waterfall. Jeni

Golly, Julie, you beat me to it! My childhood seems to be identical to yours, even in the same era. Fun story, my mom also dearly wanted me to play with dolls while I was outside swinging lassos. She was deeply disturbed when she found my only doll strung up on my bedroom doorknob with its neck in a hangman's noose! In later years when I was less horse crazy, I found the American Girl doll in a store, but she refused to get it for me, afraid I'd repeat my action from years earlier, I guess. 🤠🐎

WEEK-11: This week we had a couple of very fine spring days and we were visiting a nursery in a nearby village where we go quite often. They have a nice place to sit with something to drink/eat as well and outside they have at the moment so many plants in stock that I couldn't help myself and made a couple of photos from the big display of pansies. Of course we took some home with us and they are now on the garden table where we can see them from the livingroom.

Week 10 This photo was taken as the day was coming to an end from an upstairs window. It was taken extending the zoom on my little digital camera as far as it could go to capture trees and a snowy hillside a long way in the distance past chimney tops and roofs. I haven’t altered it in any way because I rather like its bleak moodiness at the end of a grey day.
