  2. Well, I caught up to Day 5 anyway. I've always had such a problem getting a smooth path using the pen tool. Now I know I have to change the nodes to symmetrical. All this time and I finally have my answer!

  3. Goodness, I finally managed to finish Lesson 4. When I did C-R-A-C-Paste, I still ended up with filled in shapes, so I added "Reverse Contour" after I'd pasted the cut-out shapes onto the main cup. That worked, but I'm not sure why! I must have been messing up a step.

  7. Here are my attempts for Lesson 5. Carol asked me about creating the cutout for my coffee cup, so I am also attaching my revised attempt, which was successful. I found that I had missed doing some steps that she had demonstrated.

  8. I'm a day late and a dollar short. I had to give up yesterday because my PSP was possessed. It seems to have been exorcised today so I finished Lesson 4. For the teacup, I ended up creating a zig-zag shape so I could add it on top of the cup shape. I'm learning a lot about the pen tool and nodes. Now if I can only retain the information. lol On to Lesson 5

  9. Cassel I am blacked out of all videos from lesson one through lesson 4 still. Video in all other places work fine for me just not the ones on campus. I watched to see what Lesson 2 seems to be upload 4 vector images so here are mine.

  10. all the samples sent in are wonderful! wowzer! Here are mine from lesson 5. I love that we keep practicing similar steps. I've done text on curves many times but could rarely remember how to reverse the text. With so much practice I actually may not need a tutorial for that now.. woohoo

  11. Text on a curve is something I use often, so no problems here besides selecting which photo to use. To make it more like a card I added a frame from my stash and I think that came from Creative Fabrica but quite some time ago. Font is Dreamy Snowland and I like this font for winter pages. I was glad with the second assignment because I once made stamps that way but I forgot how to do the text in the other direction and I couldn't find in all my paperwork, if I had the instructions somewhere. What I did wrong when I tried to do this earlier, well simply the first step: convert to path. I'll probably never forget this anymore and now I have the guidebook where I underlined those steps in red. The font here is Chalk and Friends Four. The photo in the ellips is from a plaquette at the visitors center in that area.

  12. Part One of Lesson 5 I caught the PSP possession bug that others had. Twice shut down unexpectedly -that's what it said anyway....if it's telling me that it's not unexpected then is it?? this image was from hubby and my walk Friday morning where we ran into a little friendly furry neighbour. I took my camera for photo friday and got some textures I've been eyeing up on the walks. The font is Mouse Memoirs, which I thought was funny. The shut down: it happened when I was typing my text on the path. my text did not fit and would have extended past (which I would have selected all and reduced the size). Soon as it came to the end of the path line PSP popped up with the "PSP has unexpectedly stopped working" notice. It happened twice. I have used text on a path before and extended past without issues. This is PSP 2022 Ult. I think it might have been my temp files, so I've deleted the temp files and did a disk clean up. I have 64 GB of ram, SSD drives, i5-6 core, 12 thread processor (all gobbily gook to me) but not a great video card at the moment. should be getting an i7 with more cores and threads this week hopefully. I'm chalking it up to the system working too hard (images open, video on the other screen etc) and not to PSP at this point. this is a fun lesson to learn. And a very useful one for layouts. On to part two after I do some adulting (read: housework).

  13. I used a bead tube I made not long ago using the Balls and Bubbles preset for my frame so good to use it here. For the font image I used one of Carole's trim tubes. The font was Segoe UI Black.

  15. Went to lesson 2. Did do a label, but I got "trickey" and found I couldn't do the result as a preset shape! So I made it a brush. (the label, that is). Then I made a different kind of shape which I could made into a shape - the "baseball glove(?)"

  16. My lesson 5 result. I had more trouble finding a suitable image and then PSP decided to crash half way through. The Graphics Fairy image had a blank banner so I drew a line for my text. Despite the minor PSP problems today, I really love the results. Anyway, here they are.

  17. Lesson 5 Part 2 I liked learning how to do this. And I liked Deana's (Davis) post with the instructions, it helped me remember it. I am a serial flower decapitator, for the sake of art of course. It's the first time trying to grow flowers of any sort. I am very abusive and neglectful so I'm surprised to have any photograph. I used the same font as the Part 1 project. Not sure if I made mention of it in that post. It's called Mouse Memoirs and I think it's from Google Fonts that came with my font viewer. Photo is mine as mentioned, on grey so I can play with some textures and blend modes....when I get around to it.

  20. I'm loving seeing what everyone is producing - so many wonderful vectors. My lesson 5 results below. I started looking for images but a lack of time made me pull back and focus just on learning the techniques.

  22. My niece was kind enough to send me some of her engagement photos. I had no problems with the text, but it took me forever to decide how to treat the photos. I made an ellipse and used the Vector Tube for the hearts. I also used the cass edge brushes. I had to go back to add the shadows that I forgot initially.

  23. I hit a snag on Day 4. One cup came out OK. On the second, the cutout part has me stymied. When I do "CTRL-A," the nodes are highlighted, but the selection box does not appear. If I continue, "Paste" is not an option, only "Paste as New Selection Layer," which puts it on a separate layer. I have started from scratch several times, hoping to figure out where I went wrong. I ran into the same problem with the first example but was able to get it to work after a little trial and error. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I did differently.

  24. Day 5/Lesson 5-Thank you Carole for finding the glitch with viewing the videos! I still can't download the guidebook tho... Had a little bit of time this afternoon, but had to break it into 2 work periods. I think I learned some of this before, but it didn't 'stick' in my brain....maybe it will this time? Or not!

  25. Finally got it to work. PSP 2023 must have some preference settings which are not compatible with this lesson. When I switched to PSP 2022 it worked fine. There are blue moons, why not yellow ones. My wife still thinks its the sun. My second picture, below, is very small because I had to keep reducing the size to get this program to accept it. I wonder why, most of the other pictures in the forum are much larger.

  26. Lesson 4. It went smoothly this time. Taking a break helped.

  27. It is fun to scroll through the pages of this forum to see all the great ideas presented in these exercises. Well done all. I'm falling behind a bit. I have only the first part of lesson 5 completed. Will get to the next part soon.

  31. Lesson 5 Text on a path. First attempt the font distorted too much as I had too wobbly a path. Carole did warn us to start with about that but I found I could go back to the path with the pen tool & Edit/Merge to get remove some of the nodes that were distorting the text.

  32. This is getting lovely and creative now. I took the image of the heart from Digital Scrapbook and drew a path around it. Then ran the Cupid Arrows Picture Tube with the VectorTube Script. Would there have been an easier way of converting the original heart to a vector in order to convert to a path?
    5 points
  33. I would not have been able to make the shape prior to this lesson. The vector stroke is very familiar to me since I use it a lot. The diamonds were made from the cass gem script, and they were made into a tube since I am addicted to bling. The font is MrsBeasly, a nice thick font which is free.

  34. Thank you Carole for the link to the tips on the PDF. They are very useful so helped me to adjust my text. I've only just got around to it so quite a bit later than your comments. I made an additional adjustment to my image as the white text on the bottom of the circle didn't show up enough. I used the Lighten/Darken brush and right clicked to darken the image under the text.

  35. Lesson 6 I used Cassel's metallic rope tube 18. I like those rope tubes (and others, too!); there is so much we can do with them.

  36. I love using text on a curve. I usually have to play with it a little to make sure it is placed properly. The font is sailorboy grunge with a layer style applied.

  37. Lesson 5 Text around Circle. There is something odd with the balance of the centred top and bottom texts as the top one is too high on the left and the bottom one starts too low on the left. The first font didn't work too well so I changed it. When you convert the circle to a path at the start is it the Elipse tool you are in or the Text tool? I tried the Text tool and it didn't work so then had to go back to the elipse tool on the circle layer. Definitely getting trickier but the effects are worth it.

  38. We had more storms this morning with another power outage. The loud booms and rumbles scare the cats, who may need therapy if there isn't a break soon. Here are the Day 3 exercises.

  39. Oh I must have been thinking of something else. Because now that I've actually used some text and paid attention, I, too, use fill. Please ignore me. I've obviously had a long week.

  40. Nothing fancy for the cutout lesson, just a simple cup. It took me quite a while to learn the steps and how to correct things when they did not work the first time. Several start-overs and re-dos were needed. Now I'm ready for lesson 5.

  43. I started yesterday and finished today. I won't be able to go through all the posts, too dizzying for me and for that reason, I didn't create anything, just followed the tutorial.

  44. I like to make things that I will be able to use again. The Christmastree is a preset shape and I adorned it with Christmas bows. Next to it is a symmetric shape, a 7 pointed star that I changed using those lovely nodes and it has a spiral garland. Then my initials and their picturetubes are my own pearls and a hibiscus flower photo that I made into a tube. Unlike some of you I do not have had any problems with downloading or viewing the lessons and videos. My PSP2023 is behaving normally too! fingers crossed!

  46. Good morning all. I wasn't able to post an update yesterday because I didn't get the email with the info for Day 5. I also don't see one yet for Day 6. Not sure what is happening, but I set my "following" preferences back to all notifications and I'm seeing everyone else's progress with envy. Thanks

  47. I am having problems with lesson 2 and especially lesson 3. Lesson 2 I did finish, but lesson 3 I have repeated it about 4 times now. I just cannot get it. I will not give up and will keep trying. At least I have my sling off now so I kind of have 2 hands to type. I know I am doing something wrong, but will not give up.

  48. @Susan Ewart Maybe we'll make a design for such a T-Shirt! @Donna SilliaYes, as the larger nodes are easier to SEE, they are not easier to SELECT. You are doing great and it is nice to hear that things are getting a bit easier. I hope the previous lessons also sunk in to help with the future ones. For the hearts on the ellipse, if you used a brush, change the rotation mode to Directional in the Brush Variance palette for the hearts to follow the path (that is just one option you can try). @Leslie Gifford Cook Practice helps but so far, so good! @James Brady A lot of talent, yours included. @Dorothy DonnDid you try to watch the previous videos too? Are they also blacked out? @Connie Collier I am glad you got the zip file in the end. If you needed to REVERSE a second time, maybe it had not reversed in the first place. @Suzy Yes, you can reopen the .pspShape file, tweak it and re-export it. @Corrie KinkelAs the lessons go, practice should make the whole process easier over time. Glad that the lesson 5 was easier. @Jnet Allard Do what you can when you can. Even if you only do the basic practice, and come back later. @Lynda DiGregor You are doing great catching up! @CristinaI am glad that this lesson was easier. Giving you time to breathe a little more. @Art Kuiper Keep it up. Nothing fancy is required. Practice is basic! @Bobby YeaterI was wondering if you had exported that shape with the different colors. Although one can easily use those colors with the "Retain style", it might surprise the user if that checkbox is NOT checked. That's all. @Anita Wyatt Did you get my email? Sometimes, just a quick Zoom call can pinpoint the exact step that is missing or in the wrong order. I have helped a few participants like that with such tiny details that made all the difference between being stuck and getting through the lessons. @Gerry Landreth Great results for your practice. When you are not getting the correct selection, is the correct OBJECT selected? @fiona cook It gives you a better understanding of how the path will affect the text. Did you check that article about moving the text on a path? @Ann Seeber Catch me by email. A quick Zoom might help. @Sheila HoggBeautiful projects! @Linda J WalkerAre the previous videos still playing or are they also blacked out? I have not done anything in the backend, so that is strange. Please, update me tomorrow if the situation changes. @Deana Davis With practice, it might get more automatic with time! @Marvin FojtasekIsn't it annoying with a tiny detail is missing and causes the result to not work? @Lesley Maple Vectors have NOT changed at all since at least version 9. The exact same steps work the exact same way. I wish everyone found the article on the blog about that text in reverse. @sharon thompsonThat is a delicious-looking project! @rjay seguraBeautiful composition. @Cindy Lawrence Great result. You are catching up nicely. Keep those projects coming. I can see that most of you are getting a bit more comfortable with vectors and nodes. Remember that practice is still important. Tomorrow, I expect the lesson will be easier.
