Two days ago, on June 12, I observed the 100th anniversary of the day my grandmother brought my mother and her baby sister to Canada to join her husband who was already in Canada (in Ontario) working on a farm. My mother was 5 years old. They disembarked in Halifax after nine days at sea. Then they took a train across many provinces to get to their destination. It is a significant anniversary for me and yet sad b/c they are so few people whom I can share this layout with. My older sister has been in a state of cognitive decline for a year or so, and has lost all interest in any of these things. But I did it to honour them and for me. The image of the ship in the bottom right corner is the actual ship they were on. The layout is meant to be ragged and distressed, as I'm sure their lives were at the time.

My K is for Kitchen - the place where family gathers - and extended family gathers - and friends gather!

To my great surprise, an instructional film by Carole has also been translated into Dutch. I had put one on, the one to make photo corners. It went a bit fast, sometimes I couldn't read everything. But I did find it a solution. (Windows 10 and google Chrome)

Beautiful, Julie! I honor my father in June as it will be his birthday on the 23rd and it's Father's Day here in the States. He's been gone a long time (born in 1892-died 1981) but I still miss him. I update and post this same layout every year in his honor. As you can see, he was a railroad man - chief night dispatcher for the Erie Railroad for over 40 years.

A beautiful tribute to your grandmother and great grandmother. About 50 years earlier, my grandmother brought her 2 youngest children with her in 3rd class steerage to the Upper Michigan area in USA to be with her husband, leaving her 2 oldest children in servitude in the Tyrol until they could afford to bring them here. Her 2 oldest children were my grandmother and her brother. They traveled here in steerage a few years later. The draw to the UP was the iron ore mines that were advertising in Europe for workers in the mines. That area turned out, as a result, in being settled by many different nationalities from upper Europe.

Beautifully done Julie. I cant even imagine what 3rd class even was. And the hardship it must've been for your grandmother, on her own with two young children. You succeeded in giving it a feeling of ragged and distressed. I got goosebumps when you mentioned that is the actual ship they were on. I'm sorry to hear about your sister.

I am glad I am not alone and in very esteemed company, in the "Over-Supplied Crafter Club" (OSCC for short). Yesterday I got rid one one thing, this morning I took it back, because...you never know, right?

This is just a simple little note to everyone here at the Campus. It's such a special place to be part of, and I just wanted to say thanks to all for their never-ending kindness and support. For those who don't know the show, the "cheers" is an inside joke from a sitcom.

I have noticed that you post this layout every year and it is a lovely tribute to your dad. At the same time it remembers me of my own dad who passed away in1981 too, but in august and like you I still miss him.

I can only imagine the range of emotions your grandmother must have felt during this trip with two small children. When I look at some photos, I tend to focus on the eyes; I believe they reveal so much. You did an excellent job, Julie, honoring this moment in their lives.

As you can see in the samples on the registration page, larger photos would be featured, one per page in most cases. And the pages will be 3600x3600, as usual.

I'm In. You wrote that we need to collect photos does it matter what size the photos are? And what about 3600x3600?

It's in my nature: retired programmer and finding a way to eliminate the repetitive A "simple" way is to record the steps and save the script. Then, if you want, you can edit the file and make changes. I rarely make one from scratch.

My 2nd and 3rd game: For the ribbons, I created a script that, from the 1st image (30x30), creates 11 other images by rotating them by 30 degrees (from 30 @ 330). This makes it easier for me to make others.

It can always come in handy! I started a quilling project when I was in my teens, and I never finished it. When I moved out on my own, I brought the little box of half-completed quilling flower pots. It turned out that I was able to use those pots and plants when I did my daughter's miniature green room. It was just 45 years later! 😂

I thought I'd try out this, my first, Bingo Challenge. I took the diagonal from top left to bottom right, Chevron pattern, Square Paper, Circle of Shapes, Photo Cutout 2, and, for my free option, I chose flowers from Lab 9, Module 9. The koru is the Māori name for the new fern as it emerges. I hoped to get some of the colours in the koru for the flowers. I chose to work with greys because the background of the fern is very dark, almost black.

My Bingo went from from top right diagonal to bottom left and it has the following elements: - Decorated Alpha - Cross Stitch - Free - Double Arrow Pattern - Circle Text I used one of my photos from the visit to the Monterey Aquarium in California. Besides the jelly fishes there were some sea urchins. The floor and background was quite dark in their part of the aquarium so their colors were great. Therefore I used my blurred photo as a dark background for my layout and I put the sea urchin in the middle of the circle text. I tried to find a nice quote about sea urchins but couldn't find something suitable, therefore only the words sea urchin are repeated in the text and the font is Arial. The title font is Belinda and the decoration fish are picture tubes. It wasn't easy to combine all the elements in a layout and make it somewhat coherent. I made al the elements and was glad to have a free space in this row. It took me more time than I had anticipated and now I'm fed up with it. It is already after midnight and I'm going to sleep. I love reading this Dutch to see what words I can translate on my own. I've been trying to learn Dutch in Duolingo for several years but am yet to be fluent in it lol and no where near but I like to challenge myself when I see Dutch text or hear it spoken 🙂

Taking the plunge with Hairstyles. I used an old bootcamp template and a kit called Pine Tree Wonderland from Marisa Lerin.

Sadly, I don't think her husband was much comfort. He was unreliable and volatile according to reports. And he died young (in his 30s) leaving her with four kids. But maybe initially she was looking forward to their new lives. No one ever talked about it. What I know I have pieced together over the years. Thanks for your kind comments about my sister. It's a real heartbreaker.

Jacques, nice to read that you still make scripts for your own use. I use the scripts I made during the scripting course but haven't found the time and energy to do the course again on my own. It still is my plan to do so but life happens and interferes with my plan. Besides that learning Affinity takes a lot of time too.🤔

That is how I think of it too, but getting old(er) now I doubt I'll have all the years left to use everything I accumulated 🥲

Hi Suzy. I saw your post and I am also not seeing PSP thumbnails. I have Windows 11 and from I’ve seen in this thread I’m not the only one having issues. I hate that I can’t see them! Ugh! I see you got PSP Thumbnail Handler to work. I’ve never heard of this…..app? Could you give me more info please? Now I'm a bit curious: why do you want to learn Dutch in the first place? It isn't the most easy language to learn, although it has its roots in the Germanic language family.

I can sympathize with you, because I do such things all the time, like pressing 2, maybe 3 keys at the same time, even without realizing that I do so and then things go wrong. I always close psp and restart it and most of the time that helps. From my secretary years I could type very quickly and here I learned the hard way to type more slowly. I always think computers are quick and have to accommodate my typing speed; alas they don't all the time!

I think this layout was done with elements etc. from Rachel Jefferies and Lynn Grievson. I subscribe to their Substack feed and get lots of stuff from them, including some inspiration from what they post.

Coincidentally I have google Chrome and I have applied the tip. I have to select the piece that I want to have translated and then it appears in my own language because I have set it to Dutch. It can be converted into many languages. I still have windows 10. thanks for the tip. (Translated into google translate).

I love them too and I use them very frequently since I learned how to use/make them. It is my number one skill I learned here in the campus!

I love masks too, Julie. I remember when I joined the Campus; I had no idea how to create them, and I was so happy once I learned how to do it.

K = keys Keys from the "Big Three" automobile companies from the US. These are keys my hubby had lying around. Keys for cars are different now, in fact I just push a button for one of my cars, which is confusing when I drive the truck and am sitting in it looking for the push start (that one uses a key). Font is Limosin and I used a cut out for the title, hid the orig.vector layer so only the cutout remained. forgot to add, blend mode used and a mask. the background is Riley B Graphics (Creative Fabrica).

I'm not one for using patterned papers in my layouts. Saying that like everything else they are fun to create. I used the right hand vertical row. Decorated alfa, Filled alfa, simple blocking, swirl pattern and Photo cutout 2. Oh Jannette, that is a shame, surely there is a row, or diagonal that you can have a go at. There are tutorials for them, to help you. We are here to help should you need any assiastance. As Carole states you can also use ready made elements.

For me PSD files don't show up too, but most of the time they have a small jpg example that at least shows how they look. That allows me to find them quickly.

PSD files don't show up for me in Win11 but pspimage files do without any extra app. I don't worry about the PSD files because I use Picasa to look at my graphics files and PSD files show up in it. All the PSD files are templates and I choose them from Picasa when I'm scrapping. Pspimage files don't show up in Picasa but since those are my layout files, it isn't a big deal (and will never show up in Picasa since Picasa is no longer available). I really haven't noticed any differences between Win 10 and Win 11. The stuff I read about that I thought would bother me hasn't seemed any different.

Ok, I had it all fixed in Windows 10 with Sage something, but it doesn’t work with Windows 11, but guess what?? Now my Photoshop thumbnails show up! Honestly Windows 10 is so superior to Windows 11, I can hardly believe it’s an upgrade and not a punishment! Thanks,, everybody!

I already had made this one before I went on my trip and had to laugh when I saw the items mentioned above. This is my red kettle that goes well with my red coffee maker that I used for the letter C.

I use Thumbnail Handler as well and can see most of the them. I had the same problem years ago and when I updated to Windows 11 the thumbnail handler still worked.
