For this challenge I used Affinity, I have to practice otherwise I forget what I learned so far. I made a repeat pattern with a square following the tutorial in the blogpost and intended to use it as a background, but that was to much and I put another paper on top of it. When I took the photo of this Primula on my outside table I used the spotlight setting of my phone, hence the title. I can't write nor scribble with the mouse of my laptop or with my finger on the trackpad, it looks horrible 😧therefor I used a handwritten font from Ally at Affinity Revolution. The mask is by Jessica Dunn and the doily is by Sheila Reid. The striped translucent tape is one I made some time ago and the others are from my stash by Marissa Lerin. I didn't had the time to make more from scratch because coming Monday I'm in the plane off to my family and I have lots to do before I'm ready to go.6 points

I am in too and will use Affinity but when this workshop is taking place I'm in California with my family and I don't take my laptop with me. However I take my iPad and will be able to see the lessons and will do them when I'm back home and have overcome the jetlag. I know that as a Diamond member I can always see those lessons on a later moment but I'm just curious to follow the new lessons for Affinity and this way will motivate me to really catch up when I'm back. Of course I will have a peek here to look what you all are making and cheer you on if necessary!5 points

I’m trying to get serious about learning to use Affinity Photo so am going through the lessons that Carole has already done. I’ve started with redoing Bootcamp. I really haven’t got any new photos at the moment so I’m using AI generated images. I’m taking part in a weekly challenge where each week we have a different theme - as we’re on week 14, I’ve a few images ready to use. The theme for this image was ‘What Lies Ahead’. The font I used is Zain. The papers and elements are from a bundle by Rachel Martin called ‘Lydia’.5 points

Lovely and maybe I should do like you. In between the lessons for the Build A Kit I try to do something in Affinity too, but I have to check frequently those tutorials and workshops from Carole.3 points

Wow that was a good deal and your risk with giving you cardnumber went well. Just last week I had a good experience at the opticien where we always go if we need new glasses. After my yearly eye check at the hospital I again needed new glasses and I got a new frame took, but it turned out that I was allergic for that frame and the opticien exchanged it with one of titanium and of course the glasses didn't fit and because all of this was within 2 months after buying they ordered new glasses al well. Great service! I never have my sunglasses with prescripton glass in them because after my eye surgery I need new glasses almost every year and if I would have those as sunglasses as well it becomes way to expensive! Therefore I use sun clips that you put over the glasses. Naturally those didn't fit over my new glasses, but I let it go for a while. Now with the sunlight getting stronger I need new ones and went to see my opticien and they only could offer as a solution, after trying everything they has in store, were custom fit clips that are made for the frame I have. Therefore they need my frame for a week, but luckily the opticien still had the same frame and could send it. So far so good but the next problem is, that it was not possible to guarantee that the clips were back in time because I travel coming Monday. The opticien then arranged that one of his staff goes to the manufacturer to fetch them and I can collect them Saturday. Service!!!!!!!!!3 points

I signed up too. I may not ever use any of the templates, but I am sure I will learn new stuff or be reminded of things I have forgotten about.3 points

This looks so nice, Sharla. It's a good idea to go through the Bootcamp lessons again, and I should do this too, but I have too many things on my plate already. I'll wait for the next one. 🙂2 points

Cristina you are so right! I'm flying coming Monday, so I'm finishing the things I'm working on and concentrate on everything that has to be done here before I go.2 points

This is my interpretation of the instructions. And the words are accurate. NOTHING happens until the teapot is steeping and the first cup is poured in the morning. (I switched to morning tea many years ago after a walking tour in Devon where the coffee was terrible but the tea was bracing!) Bits and pieces from my stash. The sketch of the teapot is from Pixabay (artist: sylvia gaudenzi) with a mask and blended.2 points

I'm planning to take a package of chocolate Easter eggs and I already have made a thank you card to go with it.1 point

Thank you and hopefully I see some nice flowers, my daughter just said it is still green from last winter's rain.1 point

This is so interesting; thinking of plants in this way. We just take them for granted without realizing the wonder that they are. I learned about dandelions closing up at night. I know some flowers do this but I didn't know dandelions did until I went to photograph them at night, only to discover they were closed up tight and fast asleep. I tip-toed away slowly and quietly as I have heard if you wake a sleeping dandelion they turn into a venus flytrap and eat you! Kidding aside, it blows my mind they can even do that, I think it must be fairy magic (and little help from their biological systems).1 point

Enjoy your trip, having a fabulous time with your family, as I currently am with mine. Everywhere is ablaze with spring flowers. Whilst back home the ground is still frozen.1 point

Same thing for me. The bottles of ink were different (and I had JUST bought a new bottle of black). The "new" printer came with four new bottles. I still had some of the older ones, so I posted on a Facebook group for free stuff and found someone who could use those leftovers (there was about 1/4 left in each bottle).1 point

A few years ago, my Epson WF-4540 All-in-One printer started to emit a lot of "yellow" color. I contacted the service center and even though my warranty was over, Epson replaced the printer free of charge with a newer model. The only problem was that the cartridges weren't the same :). But I consider it a very good deal.1 point

Thank you, Dawn! 😊 Affinity Designer has many interesting features and is worth looking at. Also, the programs' interfaces come in handy when creating something. If one app doesn’t have the functionality to do something, we can switch to the other one with just a click. Many people share their knowledge on YouTube, which is good for beginners like us. And we are lucky to have Carole, who teaches everything in detail. Best wishes!1 point

It’s fantastic how Affinity has simplified the ways we work and create things. Of course, there’s a learning curve, but this is the same with every new program. The first time, one might feel overwhelmed, but slowly, we get there. I don’t have enough time to learn everything I want, but …one day at a time. 😊1 point

Very promising, but I think I will pass on Designer because I simply don't have time enough to do everything at the same time. I am going to concentrate on Photo2.1 point

I am also trying to learn Affinity Designer. I came across a YouTube video by Serif Affinity Designer that shows how to create a Mandala using any of the drawing tools: the Pen, Pencil, or Vector Brush Tools. She demonstrated it using the Pen Tool, Symbols, etc. It may sound complicated, but it’s not, although it isn't so well explained like Ally from Affinity Revolution. By slowing down the video speed, turning on the subtitles, and going back and forth, I could achieve something—not there yet, but at least something. However, there is a long way ahead of me. Edit: Now I noticed that the guidelines are showing... See, not there yet! 😄1 point

I can already see how nice your page will be. I watched the replay of the Masterclass and liked it very much—so creative, and so many possibilities to use it.1 point

During yesterday's masterclass, which inspired me. An idea sprung to mind, well two in fact. I am going to use this neon word in a page, as part of the title. From subtle to shocking. Where colour enhances the beauty of the natural world, where colour is a language to many creatures, including birds. I will probably break up the word, in order to tilt, and move the odd letter. At present it is in it's reliminary stage. I can see this technique will have many uses. The other page, would be a night sky page. As I love shooting the moon, and other planets.1 point

Due to the compression reading some text can be a challenge. Adding some text separately, makes it easier for the viewer to read. Which helps to tell the story behind the layout.1 point

Thanks for adding the extra larger copy of the note, I would have been nuts trying to see what all it said.1 point

I used one of my own oval templates. I wasn't certain whether I was to write the words myself, or use a hand written font, or either one. I decided to write my own , using the scribble text technique. Coloured tape tutorial fitted the bill for this brightly coloured layout. Scotch tape. The rectangle doily is one of Carole's. Like everything else in nature, flowers never cease to amaze me, especially when I get right up close to shoot them, then research them.1 point
