  1. Pages 19 and 20. The map of the loop road and the 2 lower right pictures on page 20 are from the website for Custer State Park. The rest of the pictures were taken by Laurie and Joe.

  2. Did this one back in 2016 after watching a Corel tutorial. (It was before the wonderful Spooky master classes that Cassel offers.) I changed it up a bit in 2021. Corel even gave me props on the original! I was as excited as a kid on Christmas morning.

  4. Genealogy Speaking we can go back to John Donne (1571 or 1572 – 31 March 1631) who was an English poet, scholar, soldier and secretary born into a recusant family, who later became a cleric in the Church of England.[2] Under royal patronage, he was made Dean of St Paul's Cathedral in London (1621–1631).[1] He is considered the preeminent representative of the metaphysical poets. His poetical works are noted for their metaphorical and sensual style and include sonnets, love poems, religious poems, Latin translations, epigrams, elegies, songs and satires. He is also known for his sermons. My favorite quote of his is ""No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent." We dropped the e off our last name when arriving in the new world seeking religious freedom before the American revolution.

  5. Poor Susan. Hope someone saves you some turkey or ham to make a sandwich to take to work. But be patient...one day you will be retired and then you'll be REALLY busy.

  6. Me, either, Jannette, though my Beck mother-in-law claimed she'd traced her lineage back to Mary Queen of Scots. Given her personality, I believed her! ?

  9. Halloween is something I don't celebrate. It's not new to the British. All hallow's Eve comes from many Pagan traditions. Introduced in to America by the Scots and and the Irish, who then commercialized. I used a photo of a Welsh Church and churchyard, used effects photo effects time machine, added the cats and lady, added glow to them. Bats and a moon.

  10. I dont remember a time where I didnt know. From my perspective I've always known and it's never bothered me. Only one person in grade 5 told me my mother took "the easy way out" by not having natural children. At the time I didnt know she was unable to have children. Otherwise, some people find it fascinating. To me, it's just the way it's always been. There are 4 siblings in my family, all adopted. My oldest brother and sister are actual brother and sister but 2 yrs apart (yes, there's a little story there). In Saskatchewan (Canadian Province)my parents got a file of the whole story of their background and why they were put up for adoption. My other brother and I (we are the two youngest, me the youngest of all, were born in British Columbia) and that province did not allow any details about our birth parents so my parents destroyed the the other siblings file. However, we all have known the story most of our lives . They felt it was fair to us two younger ones. I wish they had kept it. I dont have any issues of not knowing where I came from because my parents (that raised me) are my parents and that was good enough for me. All of us were adopted as very new babies. I have friends that do research into their acestors and find some shocking information from time to time. At least it doesnt reflect on who you are today at this moment. We get to decide that for ourselves...well, mostly we do, or maybe we dont and that could explain some things, hmmmm, something to add to the long list of things to think about.

  13. I find all your pages outstanding, Mary. The layouts are very effective. The offset papers and photos are very pleasing to look at. Driving around the Black Hills has always been on my bucket list and, thanks to you, here I can do it virtually.

  18. Sorry, but reality to me is the world today. These shows do not interest me at all. I cannot say a lot about them due to the fact I have never really watched them but just the ads about them make me think they are fake. But it is not good for everyone to like the same thing...so enjoy!

  19. My TV list is rather short; I don't turn it on until after 5 pm and off by 10. I watch The Good Wife, Billions, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Fire Country, Broadchurch and I pick a movie for my Saturday night viewing. This week it'll be Fast X, the auto racing film with Vin Diesel. I'm looking forward to the original Moonlighting series with Candace Bergen and Bruce Willis which is being re-released on Hulu. I never saw the originals. Also, a new Frasier series with Kelsey Grammer. Both start Oct 10 here. There are two new series on Netflix I'll try: Reptile, a detective show and The Recruit, a spy comedy. That's it for me. Most of the time I'm here on my desktop computer, playing with PSP.

  20. It's raining outside:( It is probably a first fall day so we have to say 'Bye bye summer':( My recent work "Rain". I used Carole's template but aspect ratio has been changed. btw, tell me why we use 3600x3600 (square) mostly?

  21. I watched a couple seasons of Survivor only because it was originally filmed by a guy who did these race shows that were actually real. Reality shows are anything but real. I got tired of it very quickly. I dont like these shows because there is too much conflict and drama and seems to bring out the worst in people. I'd rather see people at their best, it's more inspiring. I like competition shows that are serious like The Crossfit Games. Elite athletes at their best, now that's a motivator for me. I realize I am in a minority for this subject.

  22. Great minds must think alike. The second image was a freebee from Tiny Turtle Designs and the green sunglass wearing scarecrow is from a screenshot of a VRML model I made.

  23. Today I was visiting a garden center, a very big one and they had already opened their yearly Christmas show. There are always many displays of different winter scenes with little villages, snow scenes etc. Among them were a couple of Halloween scenes that I took photos of. So the background of my layout is my photo with a cobweb overlay, some ghost tubes, the freebie for this theme, and 2 skulls. I didn't change the colors of my photo because I think it came out nicely; the cobweb was white and that was a bit too white so I made it a bit darker with the saturation and lightness.

  24. Love this, especially the plaid. You are on a roll with layouts. I will be working on Monday. Long weekends are my least favorite weekends because they are the opposite for me, they are short. We have an extended Friday shift to have a shorter Monday shift. Which is just means less weekend for me. But I am thankful I have a job and will remember to be thankful on Monday.

  26. I just started working on my layout for this workshop. As usual, I will create only one page and add all the elements to it. I am working on the destination/route, and so far, I have only added one photo... Just for fun, I decided to add Markus to the picture.

  28. I love that quote and have never heard it in it's entirety. How impressive your family lineage is. I am adopted so I have no known lineage other than my birth mother was french (French Canadian I believe). I'm ashamed to say I failed french in school. the worst marks I've ever received.
