Day 2 - Affinity

Again, I used papers and elements from the kit "Tastes Like Summer" by Lynn Grieveson.

I added a date stamp that was created in PSP using Cassel's DateStamp#8 script.

Fonts. Caneletter Script and Canastra.

I love the kit you have used here. It is great to see Olivia smile in this photograph.

Bonnie I just read the other day that pickleball is now being played in some places in the Netherlands too, although not yet in my part of the country. If it wasn’t you that showed so much about this game I wouldn’t have had a clue about pickleball!

Same for me in England. I had never heard of it until I saw some of your graphics illustrating the sport and then last year I noticed a local group playing it weekly.

Day 2. I was unable to log in to either site yesterday afternoon when I tried (Campus or Creation Cassel) yet I could other websites. Strange.  (Happy Birthday Carole for yesterday anyway). So a bit late presenting my efforts for lesson 2. Continuing same theme as I have lots of photos from Dubrovnik.

Working with Affinity for the first time went well, but if I resize my project my photo gets blurred. What  am I doing wrong? 🙂

Looked at the video and copied it step by step, but nothing helps 🙂

I noticed too, they are playing it in the neighbourhood here, I'm also in the Netherlands like Corrie, but in the north-east.🙂

I'm using Affinity for these tutorials.  The papers are all from Creative Fabrica and the font is Comic Sans (seems appropriate for kittens).

This pic was from 2009 and Camo was the best momma cat!!

On a free font site you have fonts with paws etc. would of been nice on your project too. 🙂 I know I have a font like that, but can't find it at the moment. 🙂

@Jacques Do you have the same problem? 🙂

Day 2 - Using the same kit by gemini Out of the Blue - Cape Leeuwin is in Western Australia and it is where the Southern Ocean meets the Indian Ocean - the lighthouse built in 1895 is the tallest on mainland Australia and still operating.  It is a popular tourist attraction in the Margaret River region.

Interestingly I have 3 font viewers and not one of them allow the fonts to show in affinity.

Thank you, Jeni!

I also like her smile in the photos.  In the first layout, she was not happy because her cousin had not arrived yet. 😄 She was two, and her cousin was three at the time.

I have more pictures of her smiling afterwards, but I thought that photo told a story of a brief moment of her frustration.

I like Lynn Grieveson's style and have a few of her freebies, kits/collections.

Wednesday is when The LilyPad site offers 50% off in some selected kits, and I take advantage of it if there's something I like very much.

Day 3 Very useful having the shortcuts and I have added a regular command to my toolbar for the standard paper element shadow. I must get used to using all these clever settings. The stitching layer design shape in the template  is similar to the rooftops in my theme so I have taken a colour from the rooftop photo that I used as the circular element.

I find some days the login and the links are very slow. Sometimes I just close it and walk away for a while to see if the connections are better.

Day 2 - I asked my friend, John, if a could use some of his photos from his travels throughout Italy. In response, he shared not only his Tuscany album, but also asked his friend, Robert, to share his album. As a result, I now have about 750 photos of Tuscany in my iCloud folder and used them for this template. The background is one of the photos taken at night and overlaid with a Tuscan grunge from Adobe Express. I created the border using Carole's repeat script of a preset shape with a Adobe Express gold style added. The title font is call concave tuscan and the journal font is black tuscan, both from CF. I added a watercolor leaf pattern to the background layer.

Although I missed yesterday, I want to wish Carole a belated "Happy Birthday" and thank her for the gift certificate. I spent the morning downloading my favorites list.

I have Paintshop Pro 2022 and some of the items you uses are not there - for example, FILE/PASTE FROM CLIPBOARD.  Also, my Hide/Show Layer Effects is greyed out and I am unable to activate it.  Any suggestions?

I am glad to see you all. We have almost 100 registrants. Based on this thread alone, I see that we will have both PSP users and Affinity users. For those who will be using Affinity, if you find any issues with the tutorials, things that are unclear, etc., let me know. It is the first time the Affinity tutorials will be in use.

@Anne Lamp Even if you don't use templates typically, you will hopefully still gather some tips along the way.

@Corrie Kinkel We will be looking forward to your projects upon your return. In the meantime, you can chime in.

@Sue Thomas You will see that templates can be easy to use with Affinity.

@MoniqueN. Are you referring to another Affinity Bootcamp? If so, yes, I am planning one for September.

@Jacques I hope we will see more photos of your grandson!!!

@fiona cook There is a basic template, used in the tutorial, and another one for DIAMOND members. Did you download the extra?

@Hank Sobah Did you apply a pencil effect to the photo? It looks interesting! I would suggest that you check your drop shadows. It looks like they are even all around, which would not be the case if the light source is on the top left.

@Donna Sillia Did you duplicate the dots layer to get the different colors? That is an interesting idea.

@Bonnie Ballentine That layout made me smile. Looking at the "Bokeh" dots that you replaced with stars and pickleballs. It is so you!!!!

@Jeni Simpson Great start. Are you new to Affinity or already familiar with it?

@Anja Pelzer You tweaked that layout beautifully by adding lace and a cluster.

For anyone participating in this workshop, make sure you add your program version in your profile so we can help you if you ever have any issue. You can follow this tutorial to update your profile.

See you tomorrow!

I did that to the photo last year, don't remember what I used.  Might have been in Filter Forge.  And, yes on the shadows, I did them all the way around - for some reason I kind of like that, though it is not related to the light source.  I even wrote a script called 360 drop shadow 🙂

Day 3: The photos were downloaded from Freepik. I adjusted the template by adding an extra photo, duplicating the stitching frame and sizing the leaves down a little. The font is ‘Night in Tokyo’. Project completed in Affinity.

Oh dear.. I'm always a day late and a dollar short.

I just signed up and already missed some lessons

Are there downloads or tutorials still available to catch up with?

I'll put in a call for @Cassel. She'll get you going. Are you working in PSP or Affinity?
