These picks are all from screenshots I captured over they years form a couple of Explore Osprey live cams. I have been watching these cams for over ten years. There were a lot of good years, but the last couple of years the chicks have been taken by a Great Horned Owl. This year it even took the adult female while she was sitting on her eggs at night.2 points

I have been having problems with my PSP files. For some reason, Windows 11 did not show PSP as an app. I have to remove PSP and reinstall it which took me quite a while to figure it out. Fortunately, I had saved my workspace. However my file locations had to be redirected. It has been a lot of work, but the good that came out of it is that I now can clean up some of the unwanted brushes, preset shapes, etc.2 points

Carole thank you for making this Affinity thread. For this month's theme challenge Fishing I made this layout which I posted in the theme challenge as well, of course mentioning it was done in Affinity. I'm still practicing making my own masks with the brushes that I have. I imported quite a bunch of them that are photoshop brushes. I always keep the zipfiles and now I can use them with Affinity too. I made a fish brush as well. The 2 fishes next to the text are from the freebies that came with the theme and in stead of preset shapes you save them as assets. The background is made out of different papers from Marissa Lerin's kit Oregonian Fisher.2 points

I have no stories let alone photos of fishing! My family were city folks and loved eating fish but just bought it at the fishmonger's. Many years ago my husband tried fishing but after a couple of weeks decided it wasn't for him but we too love eating fish and we have it almost weekly on the menu. However I often see blue herons fish where ever there is shallow water where the can stand until they get an opportunity to catch a nice fish. I made this layout in Affinity (and will post it in the new Affinity thread too) and I made the mask with a water splatter brush and made a fish brush as well. The background is a mix of different papers from Marissa Lerin and myself with blendmodes and opacity. The Title font is Prida01 and the 2 accompanying fishes came with the theme freebie from Carole2 points

Created using PSP. I used a splatter (added a little blur to the edges) to create a mask to place the bird in. added a frame to help focus on the photo. Using the tutorial in the creative scrap I did the stitched letter B. It is always refreshing to go back over some of the much older tutorials. That is why I love these kind of challenges. I used one of my frozen lake photos as an overlay for the background paper. Colourized the buttons. Already had the template tag, all I had to do was change the colours, date and info. A rather blue page.2 points

E = Jamaican ESCOVITCH fish - Escovitch fish originated in Spain, where it is known as Escabeche, and was brought to Jamaica by the Spaniards. Escovitch fish is the Jamaican version of Escabeche, as they give the fish its own local twist. Traditionally, a Jamaican escovitch fish consists of fried red snapper topped with vegetables that are sautéed in vinegar, bell peppers, scotch bonnet peppers, pimento seeds (allspice), garlic, and onions. Now, you can find many variations of escovitch fish, as it can be prepared with any fish or vegetables of your choice.1 point

@Cristina There is an amazing bond between Daniel and Max. Daniel has Autism (borderline), and loves any wildlife including dogs and cats.1 point

I really do love the fish frame, mask, along with the text on a path. Beautifully done.1 point

It certainly does take time to remember everything, especially as we get older. For me it takes repetitive practice.1 point

I like what you are doing in the above layouts, you are going fast and before long you will be making just as nice layouts in Affinity as we are used seeing in PSP!1 point

Great you found out how to do it! It was mentioned in one of the tutorials we had for one of the workshops , but because it s all so new it takes a while to remember it all, which in turn will take a lot of practice!1 point

Donna I think you mentioned this before and I have used it and have a lot of my photoshop gradients, which I kept as zipfiles after converting them to PSP, now converted to Affinity too.1 point

Jacques PSP is available in many languages and I use the English version for the Campus, but it comes in the language you use normally. For me it came in Dutch, but there is German, Spanish and many more.1 point

What a gorgeously pink layout. The stretched pixel script did an awesome job.1 point

Created in PSP, because I wanted to use the script cass-StretchedPixels. For the Stitched Shape I used another script cass-Fabric that gave me the letter R (Eras Bold) and stitches but I added the noise, bevels, texture and shadows. I was clearly in the mood to use scripts, which I didn't do for some time because my attention was on Affinity. The 2 buttons are in my stash and I changed their color and I used a thread that I made a long time ago for the purpose to attache a button. The splatters are made with a brush from Anna Aspnes just as the background papers. The font for the text is Fadilla1 point

Lesson 5 Not my usual colors but I wanted to keep going with it to make it work. It was hard to get the brush imprints the way I wanted. You all make it look so easy, putting them in the right spots. I think I may have overdid it, but it kept looking like there was missing spots so i kept adding. I'm okay with the end result. better than I expected at least. Font is Valentine Soul. I used the Postal Stamp Tutorial in the Campus, And, the background paper is from Gina Jones Barnyard Buddies paper 11 (Digital Scrapbook). the photo is mine, I was going to cull that one because there is a little interloper on one of the petals. I decided the interloper was thanking me for the lovely accommodations at the bug hotel (here he is visiting the gardens of the hotel - there are many amenities - it's 5 star!)1 point

I don't like the Voronoi effect either but using it with different settings can give a great result! I'll give with one a try as well, maybe on another project.1 point

As always, it was great to participate in another workshop. Carole shows and teaches techniques that are not offered anywhere else; many of them we know how to do in PSP, but not in Affinity. So, thank you, Carole, for all your hard work. Additionally, it was a joy to see all the inspiring and creative layouts posted throughout the week. I loved seeing each one of them.1 point

Day 7 A simple background paper to practice the polka dot technique. The mask (Day6 Extra) is larger than the workspace, which is why the polka dot paper is not visible on top. I didn’t adjust the size of the mask or anything else because I didn't have much time to work, so I only focused on the basics for this workshop.1 point

Sue you may not be happy with what you did with the masks, but the photos are beautiful. Like you I'm a newbie to affinity and I have to practice as well after the summer. This workshop has given me much to practice before it will completely do as I wish. But I like this new challenge, it gives me a lot of pleasure to learn new things and offers new possibilities.1 point

I really like the layouts, Dawn. The second picture, of a lake, gives such a peaceful feeling. And I like the brushes, too, especially the second one.1 point

Here is Day 4. After Carole’s comment about the importance of having a 1-pixel selection to create the plaid pattern, I decided to redo it. I used the Move Tool to position the selection exactly where I wanted it and also used the Transform Tool to adjust the selection's size. Instead of using the Watercolor Brush, I chose the Acrylic Brush, as the former was taking too long to achieve the expected result within the limited time I had to work with it.1 point

Day 4. I had previously added watercolours, which I have used here. I did find it a bit of a challenge, as I couldn't rotate, although I did change the settings to random. I felt that I have more control when it comes to editing masks in PSP, perhaps it is because I am so familiar with them. I need to play with Affinity more, as there are settings I need to locate. For me Winter is the best time to really get to grips with this programme.1 point
