Day 7—The tubes are from the store.

I always have trouble grabbing the correct little node created by the knife, so I go through a lot of trial and error. When I do manage, it's a great tool to have.

I am the same, Gerry, I have spent most of the day trying to get the second node shifted out of the way, each time I grab that other node, at 800%, it moves the whole letter, so it is not cutting! Weird that!

@Carolyn Rye It is quite ok to just do the basics in the practice assignments because that is the goal. When you feel more comfortable, that is when you can be more adventurous and do more complicated things. By the way, make sure that you post the Affinity projects in the Affinity thread (and the workshop starts only tomorrow! ;)) I cannot move it myself.

@gwen jewitt For the frog shape, if you want your tubes to be evenly spaced, set the Placement mode to Continuous instead of Random. But maybe you want them randomly spaced too.

@Sue ThomasIf you want, you can always adjust the settings of the picture tubes before you run the VectorTube script, by changing the step value.

@Jannette NieuwboerWhen you create a shape with vectors, make sure the Anti-alias is checked. I see your shapes have pixellated edges so I suspect it is unchecked. The good thing is that you can change that setting in the Vector Properties dialogue window so you don't have to redo anything.

@Mary Solaas That is the start. The basics are where you begin and then you will learn with practice.

@Donna Sillia Great work with those picture tubes. Aren't they versatile?

@Gerry LandrethGrabbing the correct node when you cut is challenging. Thankfully, you can always use Undo if you grab the wrong one!

@Susan EwartYes, when you have intersecting paths is a challenge for the picture tubes. And your analysis of the solution is spot on! Good work.

@Jacques That is a creative way to go to use different "ropes"!

@Sharon Murray Cutting a vector is not something we often do so it is new to many users! Good work.

Lesson 7 using PSP.  This was a good one to do.  I did have trouble dissecting the 2 sides for a while because I could not separate the stars.  I still find this hard to do even if I enlarge the image a lot. I think I must have bad eyesight 🙂

Day 7
I do not know why I had so much trouble. I finally deleted everything I had tried and started again, only to find, this time, it was easier.
I wish I had created them the same size.

Indeed sometimes I forget one or another. Especially when i have to practise over an over again.

Ones you send me a leaflet full of koper colored beads. I had put it in my pc but its gone. I found a copy in my stock. Where and how must I put those 72 beads in PSP???

It should be a .psptube file, correct? Then you put it in the Picture tubes folder.

And here goes for my number 7, I used a tube with various different sized beads, by changing the placement mode to angular it chose the same bead for all of the beads running at the same angle.

Lesson 1 using Affinity.  I tried the basics, and I did manage to achieve this. Carole, I noticed on your tutorial that you mentioned a few gradients that are available for the Fill or Stroke on the Vectors.  When I checked in my gradients in that area I could not find any except for monochrome.  What would I be missing here?  Also is Affinity like PSP where we can add additional resources and save that in selected files.  Where would the resources be in Affinity Photo 2?  Not sure if I should be asking this at this point but I am curious.

Hi Carolyn, yes it is possible to add gradients to Affinity. I have posted in the section "Let's talk" - Affinity stuff how to do it and where you can find more gradients. Have a look there and you can let me know if you have questions.

This is only just part 1 of lesson 7. PSP is overworked. And stopped the vector tube. It did do today but now not anymore. the upper circle is  the 72 beeds picture tube, underneath is the single beed irregular placed.  I hope to finish this lesson to tomorrow. On top of this the knife was greyed out.

Thank you, I  not only changed the step, but also changed the size. Ivy grows prolific in the UK, I  wanted to get that dence  uncontrolled look.

PSP Lesson 3 question

Since the leaf is solid, is it possible to select by color and then convert the selection into your nodes/path?

Do you want to draw different shapes for different colors? If so, yes, you can do that and if they individual shapes are grouped together, you can then export them together too.

Does that address your question?

Yes, that does. I am really interested in being able to create my own scenes and then trace individual shapes to use with my cutting machine (which I have to learn next).

@Carolyn RyeSeparating the nodes when you cut is a real annoyance. I agree with you 100%. But you did it very well.

@Jeni SimpsonThose are fun and with practice, you will get even more comfortable.

@Jannette NieuwboerIt is great to have fun. Why not? As the artist, you can do whatever you want! and I am glad you managed all the lessons! Way to go!

@Harmony BirchGreat work. You caught up nicely.

Keep them coming! And if we do have some lurkers (because there were many more registrants than posters), come and show us ONE lesson!

2nd day. I did make some labels, but I know how to export them to shapes, however, I didn't export these - I simply made them in png format (saved the pspimage) and will display them in jpg. The second one using 2 different shapes, I tried looking at outlining them and also trying label styles - bevel. It was interesting on the 2nd one - I wanted the 2 flower shapes to be under the rectangle, although the rectangle was not the top one in my group - so I had to move that layer to the top. Working with Group with vectors is interesting - I don't know if I have really played around with multiple shapes in a group before - well, maybe when I created the Interstate Sign.
