So following your words I went back and didn't Reverse the Path and it worked! thank you so much. I couldn't understand why I got it cut out on the Tea Pot right away, but not the tea cup. I fought with this for over an hour. I also discovered, by pure chance, that if I go with the outlines of the "holes" (sections to be removed) in the opposite direction of the main object, I no longer need to create them in a separate vector layer and move them into the main object's vector layer. I can do it directly in the main object's vector layer. 2 4

Sue Thomas Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Day 5 This is a vector template which I created a short while back. Many of my templates are vector created. Apart from creating nice smooth sharp round/ovals, It allows me to do countless text on a curve. 3 11

I am glad that you feel it is easier with a shape to copy. That cup would look great on a greeting card! @Jannette Nieuwboer What mistake do you want to remove? The naming of the shapes or something on the shapes themselves. @Sue ThomasVectors are getting easier and you can always curve the bottom of the mug later! @Donna SilliaThe cup is fine. I think it is just the bevel that gives it an odd look since that is not how the shading would normally go on a cup. But the exercise was to draw it, and that is correct. @Jacques Drawing a shape in the other direction does exactly what the R should do, which is to reverse the path. Since we typically draw clockwise and the preset shapes also are drawn clockwise, in that case you would need to manually reverse the path. But if you purposefully draw in the other direction, you can save that one step. I am not sure exactly why the path has to be reversed to make it into a whole. It must be a way that paths are interpreted internally. @Gerry Landreth That is a great way to use vectors. It can create some nice edges once you use the Selection from Vector. @Louyse ToupinIt is a lot to learn but once you get comfortable, it will become easier and easier. @Sharon MurrayThe shapes will appear in the drop-down list based on the name of the shapes in the Layers palette, but when you enter the name during the export, it will be the name of the FILE, so what you see is what is expected. If you wanted the shapes to have Shazza, you would have to rename them in the vector layer before exporting them. You are doing great with all those shapes. That is the beauty of vectors, they are easily editable. Edited May 23 by Sue Thomas 7

Thanks to Jacques comment on the direction I was able to finish the tea cup, this time without reversing the path. I had tried for an hour. Couldnt understand why the tea pot went off without a hitch. I guess I lucked out and had done the path the same way on the tea pot (it's the one I did first and got all confident that I could do it), then came the tea cup where I went a different direction for the handle interior. I'm so happy to have learned that. Blimey! you have excelled yourself. Perfectly executed, which probably took a while to do, but well worth it. 6 3
Jannette Nieuwboer Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Here my rest of lesson 2-2 second part. The boat was just poped up by plaing with the arches. 12
Jannette Nieuwboer Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I'm not fast but did well en understand much more than the other time. Filed it all wel now. only those mistake is not fikst yet. 6

I took it as a challenge, since I'm laid up with a sprained foot I have more computer time. I have a tea cup or two from the last workshop and wanted to add more items to the the list. Next WS I'll add a creamer and sugar bowl maybe. 4

I would have liked to have a lot more time in my life to do this workshop. Too many Doctor's appointments. I know that is not an excuse, but it had made me less time. I decided to add a photo of my fur baby on the cup. I have so much more to learn but at least it makes me feel like I have achieved something. It's not an excuse at all Carolyn, it's life. Having many appointments or errands (or work) outside the home always seem to take much longer than you think it will. And they can be very exhausting, leaving you with no energy or time to do anything else. 6 3

Gerry Landreth Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Day—As I worked on this assignment, I thought back to my high school chemistry teacher, Mrs. Gadd. A sign behind her desk read, "If all else fails, follow directions." That sums up my experience with this exercise. 3 1 10

I have only done half of the 1st day. I will show you what I am planning to accomplish with this workshop. The photo of the bleeding heart flowers is my aim. I am working on a single bleeding heart flower that I will use as a png picture in various sizes on a branch (as in the photograph). the photo is Image by Jürgen from Pixabay. the heart is my first stage, I plan on using the other days to add to the heart until I achieve what I am aiming for. I did not do the arrow this time as in the labs I have made several arrows as well as the last workshop. All the best at the doctor's tomorrow, hope you are quickly back to normal and continuing with this promising bleeding heart! 4 1

This time around I think I did better. The other two I found at freepik I believe and thought they looked interesting. I did export them all. I wonder why I forget all about making shapes and exporting them after the workshop is over. I added a very small outline so they'd stand out better. Susan they are great but I like the middle one the best! 4 1

What does the Layer palette look like? 1

It seems I missed something here. Your teapot and cup are very well done and how fitting because of your love for teacups on the weekly challenge of last year. All the best and "enjoy" your extra computer time. 4 hours ago, Susan Ewart said: Thank you Gwen. I took it as a challenge, since I'm laid up with a sprained foot I have more computer time. Cindy Sheets Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I am currently working on lesson 1 but wanted to drop in and leave a comment especially for all the first timers. I have used vectors plenty of times but always seem to have a gotcha point. I think this is the 3rd time I am taking this workshop (definitely the second), and today the explanations for the different node types really seemed to click. As in, I think the knowledge actually stuck this time. I have been doing things one way just because that was how I learned it but didn't really understand the why. 3 1
Peggy Dorgan Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I am still struggling with Lesson 2. I do not know what I am doing wrong. When I try to move a node, I am getting a new one. Somehow my workspace doesn't have the options you are using or I am completely on the wrong page. 2 1

If not, any click will add nodes. As for the workspace that is different, what options are you missing? Can you share a screenshot? 2
Donna Sillia Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Day 5 - Part 2 I took this photo several years ago and used in a bookmark with the St. Augustine quote which I love. I made an oval vector converted to a raster and used the cliptoit script. I forgot how to make the bottom circle and was so happy to have a reminder. I downloaded the handout since I have a tendency to forget when I don't use something often. The font is from CF and is called "Belive." I used a layer style on the vector fonts and added a drop shadow after converting it to a raster. The background paper is from CF with an color overlay. 8

So great you are understanding those vectors and their nodes much better now! It always is a case of repetition and more repetition and I think that is so true for all of us here☺️ 5
