Cassel Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 I follow a local photographer since last year. He has posted multiple photos of the area, so, with his permission, I plan to showcase night photos of Bathurst. So, this would be the cover. You can check out his photos or follow him HERE. I realized that I had an English title, while I wanted to make it in French (to share with the photographer). So the title reads "Bathurst, evening and morning". I found that many photos were from sunrises and not just nights and sunsets so this title will be more appropriate. 4 1 9

Jean Naumann Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Here is my Day 2. I think I'll stick with Immigration, although I'm leaning towards changing the size of the document. I thought it might be cool to actually get my magazine printed, and I checked Lulu publishing and they do print an A4 magazine, so I just might end up changing to that size. But, I'll still do the templates as Carole does them, it's all a good learning curve. It's nice to actually do something different with the photos. 3 11

Euka Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Kalgoorlie and surrounds is the focus of my magazine - the Goldfields in Western Australia is a fascinating area and I love it. My day 1 - One of the things it is known for is the Super Pit - it was Australia's largest open cut mine until 2016 when another West Aus mine became the largest. The pit is oblong in plan view and is approximately 3.5 kilometres long, 1.5 kilometres wide and over 600 metres deep. (Wikipedia). Day 2 - Of interest also is the Herbert Hoover connection to the Goldfields. He was involved in several mine sites and eventually became Manager of the Sons of Gwalia mine. Gwalia is now a ghost town with a museum and Hoover House where he lived has been restored and you can actually stay there. This is an interesting read on Herbert Hoover and his history with Gwalia if anyone is interested in the 31st American Presidents time in Australia. https://www.gwalia.org.au/about/history-of-gwalia/herbert-hoover.aspx I am not happy with Day 2 so have work to do on that. Photos are mine. Font Scarlet Ribbons, Lightning and Black Chancery. 2 12
Carolyn Rye Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I decided to use Affinity for this Cover page to give it a try. Still finding my way around. I wanted to change the burgundy color around the photos of Bundy but could not get the Color Picker Tool to do what I wanted it to do. As I said - still learning. 6 5
Linda Rexford Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Hi Everyone, my magazine is about a trip to Costa Rica in 2010. It was a trip for work but I did get to do some sight seeing there. Hubby also got to go there for a weekend so it was a fun trip too. 2 10
Jean Naumann Posted February 19 Posted February 19 @Euka love your page, but you've missed out the r in Kalgoorlie on the cover. The super pit is amazing isn't it. We were there in 2000 when a blast happened, that was an amazing sight to see. 5 1

Carolyn Rye Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Day 2. PSP again with our cute little Bundy bog. We already had a gorgeous little white fur baby when my husband decided that he wanted a second dog, but this time a darker color. When I saw Bundy, I fell in love with him. I knew that my husband would too. He had the most amazing nature and everyone that came in contact with him, fell in love with him. He gave us so much joy during his time with us. 1 8
Cassel Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 @Jean Naumann Immigration is an interesting topic for a magazine, so it would be easy to put that into that format. It is cool to read Quebec on a sign! @Jeni Simpson Oh, another place to discover! @Susan Ewart We certainly expect some changes and tweaks throughout the workshop. Since those pages are so quick to complete, adding to them or changing something should be also fairly quick. @Carolyn Rye I am sorry to hear about your husband, but I am glad you can find some respite in scrapping. May I suggest that you remove the "small frame" from your cover? I think it would make your title stand out on its own. You MIGHT even try to see how it would look like without either frames. To change the color of elements like the frames, I struggled too. Are the frames of the photos on separate layers? If so, you can use a Layer FX and use a Color Overlay. If they are not, you might need to make a selection, and add fill a separate layer with the color you want. I am still looking for "simpler" or more obvious methods, but obviously, Affinity works differently than PSP! @Cristina This workshop is a great opportunity to test Affinity, since the tutorials are so short. Each one covers only a few tools/commands. Your magazine will really look like a magazine! @Krystyna Nicholls Looking forward to your projects. And don't forget to ask any question if you are unsure! @Jacques Just out of curiosity, did you take those pictures yourself? If so, you certainly had a great position! @Rene Marker I love that yellow patterned background! Rotating templates gives you more options to reuse them without the pages looking the same. @Donna Sillia Interesting idea to use a different mask. @bina greene That is quite an elaborate cover page! This is the beauty of these workshops: even starting with the same "base", everyone has a different take on it, a different style, and the results are always unique. @Jen Brown Curiosity question: on that quilt, is the patterned square appliqued? @Ann Seeber Did you check the extra templates? You might find others with multiple spots for photos (or you can just add more pages!) @Gerry Landreth "Nature's confetti". That is such a nice description for butterflies!!! @Euka I am sure you will tweak your pages and find something that suits you. Give it some time. Inspiration does not always knock at the door when you plan! @Anne Lamp Beautiful rose! And great photo! How big is that flower? @Corrie Kinkel I am glad the size of the mat was perfect, but you know you could have changed it if it was too large or too small. Or you could have tweaked the text size too. So many options to adjust to your need. Those barcodes are so realistic-looking! They really add to the cover of a magazine. @Linda Rexford That is nice "work" trip to take!!! Just like you all, I am reviewing the tutorials (for Affinity) to get more comfortable with the various steps that are still not familiar to me yet. My challenge, right now, is picking the photos to showcase! But it will give you a little tour of my area. Although I live in Beresford (and there are some photos from here), Bathurst is larger and it is just literally walking distance from here so that is what I will focus on. 3 1 2
Carolyn Rye Posted February 19 Posted February 19 @Cassel you are so right about the blue frame. It looks so much better this way. 4 8

Euka Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Thanks Jean and Jeni for your correction - I had to type it so many times at 2.30am - I had so much trouble with the text - I even had Carole sounding drunk at half speed on the video 🤣 I had to redo the text as I wasn't able to change it for some reason. My son lived in Kal for over 20 years and I have spent many months visiting and exploring. He moved back east 2 years ago and I miss going over there. 4 9

The background is off white again and the font is Cambia. It is a simple layout, but I changed the color for the important words in the text. I needed the text to tell something about the park, to give more context to my magazine. Expand Corrie, seeing this El Capitan boulder that close must have been impressive! Some time ago, I read about Alex Honnold, who climbed this rock without ropes or other safety gear. The entire climb was filmed for NatGeo. 4 1
