@Euka Beautiful photo. The simplicity makes it stunning. @Carolyn Rye It looks like you purposefully added a larger shadow on the circle to account for the thickness of the rope. Is that the case? @Leslie Gifford CookGreat work on the sizing of the images. Did you know that you can also add a shortcut to the Layers palette too? @Jacques Lacerte Great job on the resizing. There is no distortion. You could probably add more offset and blur on the shadow for the flower. It would give it more "volume". @Donna SilliaFun layout! I have heard of the Savannah Bananas. I don't remember where, but I do know about them. A little like the Harlem Globetrotters but for Baseball. Another project will be presented tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Now, that layout makes sense! 🙂

@Carolyn Rye It is ok to use bits and pieces. It might just be a good idea to mention it in case someone else is wondering "what kit is that?". That is a cute portrait of Bundy! @Michele Sad to hear of that tree disappearing but glad you got a great pic of it to showcase. @Ann Seeber Did he actually get a "certificate" for that haircut? @Daniel Hess Amazing how different the paper is from the starting photo. That is a great example of how to start with something and build your stash with something completely different! Great work. And I agree that the second picture is better without the text overlapping the postcard. @Clarine That is a great story. The black and white photos on a colored page really stand out. A couple of tweak could help. You can surely add a much larger shadow to that white flower at the bottom. Add a large Blur and reduce the opacity. It will make that flower stand out. Also, for the text at the bottom, maybe stretch the paper just enough so that the last word does not overlap the edge. @Corrie KinkelGreat shadowing on the flowers! You should have another day, tomorrow, to work on your current projects. The next project will be only on Tuesday so time to catch up!

@Jeni Simpson I have had that too. The best solution I found was to log out completely of the Campus and log back in. It is great that you managed to adjust the colors to suit your needs. I am glad you stated which project you were "following" so it is easier for me to identify them to plan the draw, since your layout looks quite different than the tutorial. @Euka Great layout. I think your photo could use a reverse shadow to make it stand out. Read about that in this article. @Ann Seeber That is a fun layout. Your little turtles might use some "cast shadow" if you want to give it a try, but if you do, make it subtle so it does not overpower it. @Anne LampNice layout. I feel like the background paper makes the title and the scatter "disappear" a bit. Maybe you can put a solid paper on the left side of the strip and keep that diamond one on the right. Just an idea. For your second project, it is nice but just like for Euka, you could use a reversed shadow. @Donna Sillia Great layout. The colors are stunning. Tomorrow, you will get Project 3. Looking forward to seeing them.

Here is a challenge to do something that might not be repeated in other months. Just an idea that popped like that (and you can also send me suggestions for occasional random challenges too). This week, I want you to use the SAME PHOTO twice in your layout: once in the background, and once in the foreground. You can use an "artistic" effect on the background version like watercolor, text painting, brushing, silhouette, pencil sketch, etc. while the foreground version of the photo would be the "original" one, without any effect. Let's see all the creativity you can come up with.

Glad to see some more projects. Hopefully, you will have even more time this weekend. @Daniel Hess I went ahead and got you skipping the earlier delays. I think you should be receiving the next email at the same time as everyone else. For the tubes, I am not sure why the link is not clickable, but it works if one copies and pastes it into the URL bar. @Corrie Kinkel I don't know the name of that flower, but I love how you used very different types of papers combined together. Simple layout, but effective in showcasing that photo. @Leslie Gifford Cook Great photo to showcase. Since your background paper is dark, I think that the title and date (?) would be easier to read if they were in a lighter color. I think that if you offset the photo slightly so that all the edges don't align, it would give a more dynamic look. Just a thought. Don't hesitate to post your projects. Remember that you can win some nice prizes if you post four out of the five projects in the Bootcamp.

I would say that like any paperclip, you have one "middle section" that can be either in the front or in the back. But also, like any regular paperclip, you can put a tiny segment to put in the front or in the back but it would not "hold" anything.
-
I would say that the left example is more likely to happen. Just imagine that you are holding the tip of the shape, and push the "inside" piece and slip the paper in-between.

Great to see some more projects posted by more participants! Keep them coming. @Carolyn Rye That is a beautiful layout. For our own curiosity, do you have references as what kit you used? @Euka Yes, it is so much easier to select a Blend mode in 2023. One of the great additions! I love how you used the photo in the background! @Daniel Hess If you want to save time in making those scatter tubes, you can use the Custom Confetti script. It will take care of all the resizing, and random rotation, displacement, etc. for you. It will work with any single element. I might actually work on one that would include multiple elements. Hum.... On my to-do list! I think you should register for the email series so you can follow along. Some links and tips are also shared between projects. If you register now, I can make you skip the wait until you catch up the others' email. Let me know when you register. @Sue Great table. Isn't it nice to have some flowers with our lunch? @Michele Such a fun title for that cute photo!! @Ann SeeberThat is a fun banner to add on top of the word "kid". So appropriate! @Jacques LacerteGreat to see you! Welcome to the Campus and the Bootcamp. You will see that you will be able to showcase many fun photos. You started very well with your first layout. Tomorrow, you should get the Day 5 email with the Project 2. But if you have not finished Project 1, don't worry. You can still post them "later" too. And you will have two days for Project 2 before another one.

@MicheleGreat sandwich. Will you share? @Leslie Gifford Cook Have you ever done bobbin lacing or do you just do the bobbins? @Daniel HessDid you make that background? It is interesting. I find that the scatters are kind of "lost" on that patterned paper. Have you tried them on a solid color? Did you try to make the second project? or a variation on the first one? @Donna Sillia Those scripts are going to be used often, I feel!!! They can be such time-savers for titles! @Corrie Kinkel Yes, simple can be hard when you know how to do not-so-simple but it is a good exercise to get back to basics. @Jeni Simpson Nice and delicate. Great layout. @Sue Welcome to the Bootcamp and the Campus. Looking forward to seeing your projects in this bootcamp. For those who might not have had time to finish their first project, don't worry, you will have an extra day to work on it, before you get the next project. And if you are registered and have not yet posted anything, jump in!

Great to see even more people joining in the fun! @Michele Yes, it is very important to identify what version you save your workspace from because PSP won't tell you if you use a different version, and problems will come in later. @Donna SilliaKeyboard shortcuts or shortcuts on the workspace will just be the way to go based on your needs! Those plates for your lunch are fancy!!! @Carolyn Herrmann Welcome to the Bootcamp and the Campus. As Ann mentioned, you have to resize images to 600 pixels and save it in jpg format to attach them to your posts. @Ann Seeber Having done this bootcamp a few times, you must have quite a collection of sandwiches by now! @Corrie KinkelIt looks like you are on a picnic table with that wooden background. @Anne Lamp I think this is the first time we have had a Halloween sandwich! @Jeni Simpson I have considered using more realistic elements in the sandwich exercise but it is so much fun to see what everyone finds when they are searching for replacement components! Where did you find all your ingredients? @Daniel Hess Quite nice dishes too! And matching cutlery! @Euka It is a strange behavior for the Pick tool. @Carolyn Don't ever start comparing yourself to others. Some have done the same exercise half a dozen times. People are just having fun and so should you. It does not matter if you don't have flowers on your table or whole wheat bread. You did the exercise perfectly as instructed. That is all you needed to do. Keep an eye out for the first "real" project tomorrow. So far, it was a warm-up! And if you are not scrapbooker, try the projects anyways. Afterall, it uses the same tools in PSP than you would use for a variety of other projects.

We are probably all crafty kinds of people but sometimes, some projects can take longer than we planned. Did that ever happen to you? An afghan blanket that took you years to crochet? A quilt that just sat in a box for years? A scrapbook album that is still not completed yet? Don't be shy. I am sure we all have or had some projects that took years to complete. Let's share.

It is not your login password. It is the word that is beside the link in the Workshop index. For example, for the first lesson, the password is "install". 🙂
-
Yes @Daniel Hess, the Bootcamp is different from the Basic Scrap. You might as well register for the bootcamp so you will get the links to the same tutorials everyone else has. It IS in the list of workshops, but it is much easier to get the emails.

Welcome to this bootcamp. Hi to our regular "campers", @Ann Seeber, @Corrie Kinkel, @Donna Sillia, @Michele, @Susan Ewart, @Julie Magerka, @Daniel Hess, @Jeni Simpson. I hope to see some newcomers. Don't be shy. Come and say hi! @Ann Seeber Removing the thumbnails is a good way to save space. If you still like it, did you know that you can also have them but change their size? It still would take more room than not having any, though, but it COULD be an option. You say you added Edit selection to the Layers toolbar? That command is there by default already. @Corrie Kinkel I would never consider floating the Materials palette, but if it works for you, that is great. I think that is a great feature of PSP: one can set up their workspace to fit their own style, preferences, and workflow! @Daniel HessMaybe, someday, I'll have a second monitor. In fact, when I was working from home, during the pandemic, I would give classes online, with PowerPoint presentations, and I would connect to my TV as a second monitor. I tried once with my own computer and it didn't work. I THINK the graphic card might be the problem. I am now LOOKING at upgrading... maybe. @Jeni Simpson Images definitely stand out better on a dark background. I don't know if I am the only one but for me, a dark background tires my eyes a lot and I need a few seconds to adjust every time I have to look at something else (not on a dark background). For me, that is the reason that I kept a light grey background. But if it helps you, that is great. @Euka I think you will be able to work with your Windows 10 for quite a while still. Good luck. @Michele I should also use the auto-hide. I keep forgetting it is an option! Keep posting. I want to also hear from newcomers. There are almost 100 registrants so we should have a busy thread in here. Even if you already have your PSP set up, and these lessons are just repeats, come and tell us. You can also comment on others' posts!

Let's continue this new challenge. We might be the ones taking pictures but we are not the feature of our layouts, so let's change that since we ARE important and have lots to say. Every month or so, the layout will be about YOU, and a prompt will be given. If you have taken the Story Week Challenge, you will find some similarities but it won't be the same. For the September layout, tell us something about a specific object that you still have from your childhood or even older than you. What is it? How did you get it? Was it from a particular event or occasion? Let's share. It might be a trip down memory lane for most of us! Remember that if you want to create pages for previous prompts, those threads will stay open. There is no right or wrong order to share about you.

Yes.

That is one way. Another way would be to move the folder somewhere PSP is not pointing to, in case you want them later. Another way would be to create a series of main folders for your brushes (stitching, watercolor, punches, etc.) that you might use point PSP to those sub-folders instead of the large one. Of course, it might mean you will point to a dozen sub-folders, but you can always change which ones you are using, and it would make fewer resources to load.

Cards are sold in bundles. You can buy them in many locations in town, at convenience stores, gaz stations, etc. They sell for $10/bundle. In our case, each bundle has 9 cards in each of 6 colors. So you start with all the blue cards. On the air, they say which type of bingo you play for (straight line, four corners, two lines, around the FREE, full card, etc.) They then call each number and wait somewhere around 15 seconds. And they keep going. When someone has a bingo, they call the station number where someone will check if it is a valid bingo (each card is numbered). They announce on air that there is a potential winner (or winners since it could be more than one) and we get a commercial break for that time. Then, they come back on air to say if there was a winner or not. If not, we continue. If there was, then we change to a different color card, with a different bingo, and so on. As far as I can understand, this bingo (which is weekly) is used as a fundraiser for the Kinsmen's club and the animal shelter. You can check their web page. Other radio stations around here have other bingos.

Various local radio stations tend to hold activities, games, and such. How about your local radio station? Did you ever participate in any of those activities? Share your stories.

First of all, come and say HI once you register for this Bootcamp. We want to know who else will be there, on our side to cheer everyone up. Everyone started as a beginner, so don't ever compare yourself to others. You will learn one tool at a time, one concept at a time and you will create one project at a time. Everyone will have different photos and possibly different supplies so every project will be different. Once the Bootcamp is started, on September 16th, 2024, you can post your projects in here. Remember to resize your images to about 600 pixels AND save them in jpg format, before uploading them to the gallery (check this tutorial to upload to the gallery) so it won't slow down the site when we have lots of your masterpieces. Try to follow the tutorials at least enough so that we can recognize what lesson you completed. Now, let's get ready! If you missed the registration link or if you found this thread before I announced it (some people are very observant), HERE it is. Share it around if you want. Although this Bootcamp is mostly meant to help beginners, we won't exclude anyone for "excess experience". Some participants are back for a second (or third) round. You are always welcome. Remember that it will be the exact same tutorials so don't be surprised. I am sure you will now do something slightly different than the previous time. Since anyone can follow the whole Bootcamp using the trial version of PaintShop Pro, this is a perfect opportunity for anyone to give it a try and see how they like the program, so share with your friends who MIGHT consider using PaintShop Pro. The 7 tutorials will be spaced out over almost 2 weeks. This should make it easier for participants to follow without feeling stressed (it should never be stressful!).

Are you coming to the Q&A?
-
I just ran it on PSP2023 and it works fine. I have to say that PSP2023 might work inconsistently with text inside scripts. Did you try with different fonts by any chance?
-
Make sure to adjust the kerning. It looks like it might be negative. Set it to 0 to see if it is even more ligible.

With back-to-school time of year, you might have a photo or a story related to school and you might be looking for a cursive font. Or you could use this easy-to-read font for your journaling. You can get this free font HERE. What will you write?
