  3. Week 8 I should be doing my Solid papers but for some reason our email program just stopped working so hubby has been trying to get it up and running. So I'm doing a little bit in between his "fixing" time. Good thing for my old laptop with a nice working email. I used King Edward font (from CF). I wanted a shadow so it would show on the card. I sure flip-flopped on what settings to use where it would show up but not look weird because I find shadows can make black text look blurry or like accidental double text. I didn't shadow the 2024 as I knew it would look weird, but I wanted a black text and a darker layout as well. Gradient is from PSP that I've used before, it's a favorite of mine. I'm trying to get rid of most of the t-cups and will be the same for the t-pots and here I was in the thrift store yesterday with yet another t-cup and t-pot in my hands! I just noticed this layout looks better if you click on and see it with the black around it.

  4. I grew up as an only child, but in fact I wasn't! My parents had a child before me, also a girl which died at childbirth after a normal pregnancy. In those days just after WWII there was no way to interfere as we now are accustomed to. I only found out that I had a sister just by accident because nobody talked about it, although I always had a feeling something out of the ordinary had happened. My mother didn't even got to see her baby, let alone held it! It was thought that it was better this way, how cruel! When I was a bit older I came to realize that my mom was severely traumatized and until her death never coped with it together with the trauma from living through WWII as well. Luckily my dad whom I adored was different, so my childhood was okay. My dad came from a large family and he was the youngest of 12 and I had lots of cousins but they all were considerably older than I was. The difference between me and the cousin above me was 14 years and when we had family gatherings I was the only little one and now all minus one are deceased. I have only a couple of very bad photos and I used one of those for this layout, because it is characteristic of how it was. From the left side there are 3 aunties who were single and lived together in the family apartment and I was there quite often. To the right is my mom and we are practicing a song. My dad's side of the family is very musical; he played the violin, my aunt the grandpiano, another aunt a flute, my grandfather who had already died and an uncle played the organ in church. The rest of them was in a choir. I think I was about 3 or 4 in this photo. I had to fix the very dark and faded photo to get something that I could use. It was ripped at the edges as well, which I kept. The street plan of Rotterdam is from the sixties and that fits in with my story. The instruments are dingbats called 212 Music Dingbats, the music staff is by Janet Scot and the font is Ana's Faded Typewriter which I think is fitting! The picture frame is in PSP.

  5. Over 20 years ago I took photos of every single Precious Moment figurine that my Mom and I had collected from 1983 to 1996. I did pack them away in their original boxes and now most of them are in plastic tubs (organized as well) in the basement. I have sold a few of them throughout the years as well. But I have them documented. I don't have digital layouts of them but the photos with all information are documented in a traditional scrapbook. I only have 4 special ones that are displayed all the time. And, I have an ornament tree and a small shelf unit with ornaments that are also displayed. But I just didn't have the room to have them all out all the time... I needed the China cabinet for other things!

  6. LOL. Oh, please don't get rid of them. Admit it. You love them.

  7. I guess I'll post this one here, too, as it fits the theme. I already posted it in the Mask Workshop. Since I'm an only child, I don't have any siblings though I did wish I had some when I was young.

  8. Here is a challenge to do something that might not be repeated in other months. Just an idea that popped like that (and you can also send me suggestions for occasional random challenges too). This week, I want colors. I want you to create a project where various ELEMENTS will create a rainbow effect. You can have tons of buttons creating a rainbow sequence. You can use bits of ribbons. You can use scatters. You can use bits of papers. You can use brush strokes. It is not about showcasing an actual rainbow, or a rainbow gradient, but individual elements. Here are some examples. Paper pieces in the different colors of the rainbow. Brush strokes in the different colors of the rainbow. Colored effects on a photo How will you display all the colors of the rainbow with a series of individual elements/papers? (this challenge was actually presented in July 2022, but in the old forum, we have lost the images so you can resubmit the same ones if you want, or create a new one)

  9. that's so awesome Rene. I should be doing that. It's another way to enjoy pretty/sentimental things but not become a hoarder at the same time. And since my photo subject tastes have changed over the years and I'm doing more table-top photography I seem to want (read: NEED! ☺️) more "props" as I learn and develop a style. Wonder how long that takes. I wish I was the person who could go to a thrift store buy a few things to photograph then donate them back within a week or two. Maybe I'm that way in another universe.

  10. Yes it is and as a (grand-)mother myself I'm so glad that nowadays there is a lot of help available when such a tragedy happens!

  11. Is that why you're documenting them now? It's a great idea.

  12. Week 6, In Leuven, the city where I live, almost 2,000 Chinese live. To celebrate the Chinese New Year on February 10, the Chinese association 'Nihao Leuven' put together a colorful dragon of up to 10 meters long for a dragon parade in Leuven Center. He is joined by two lions.

  13. Here's my childhood toy, a wooden red sled built by my grandfather, Emil Hagquist, who emigrated here from Finland in the early 1900s. I was born the year WWII started and there were no commercial children's sleds to be found in the stores as all the manufacturing was devoted to the war effort. This is an etching created by my daughter, Debbie Lennox, who actually played with this sled. Note, there is no steering mechanism; you had to drag your toes to steer. 😉

  14. What a cute photo and I like that you kept the rest of your layout neutral. In this way all the attention is on the cat.

  15. In week 3 I showed a photo from a little container with bulbs partly covered with snow/ice and this is how they look now. They are in full bloom despite all the rain we are getting and today when I took this photo it was dry with better light for a photo. There are still raindrops on them and those haven't had the chance to dry because we have had more rain for the rest of the day.💦☔I don't think I will have a better chance on a good photo because we now (it's evening here) get storm as well with warnings in place.

  16. P52 Week 7 Font is Agatha (Creative Fabrica). Ugh, I had two fonts called Agatha. And only one would show up in my drop down. Of course the wrong one. I had to turn off the wrong one in my font viewer for it to see the other one. This explains why when I load some in the font viewer I don't always see it. I see that it's loaded and says it's activated, but I actually have to scroll to it and activate it. It's a little annoying. At least I figured out what's happening. I downloaded this one font 3 times thinking I did something wrong. It's called "Christmas something or other" and I have several with that name. It now explains why I only seem to be able to use one of them. the "W" has the same hook as on top of the t-cup handle. Purely coincidental, I only just saw it now. And the shadow I put on the magnet is way too small, it looked huge when I was doing it. I'll have to go back and fix that. I even wrote the numbers down and didn't believe my own writing. I used a gradient background and added a texture. I also added a texture to the rasterized fonts and frame so it would look like it was printed on the paper. Probably the texture will be lost in the lower resolution. Nice to get back to this project. I had forgotten how I did some of the steps and had to remind myself.

  17. I know I'm a litte early, as it's anyones guess what I will find to photograph in the next few days. There isn't any doubt in my mind that this photo is going to be weeks 8. White-tailed Hare. North Americans call hares Jackrabbits. They are not rabbits. They belong to the same family, different species. They are are extrememy difficult to find, as they blend in well with their habbitat. From dawn til dusk they sit motionless, regardless of what mother nature throws at them. (-24c this morning) Like many animals they are capable of sleeping with their eyes open. Of course they are nocturnal. I will be able to observe this one from the kitchen window, using bincoulars, as it is cwtch down, out in the stubble, where we have moved snow from the yard. I stumbled across it whilst out tracking their movements last night in the snow.

  18. I am providing you with a card with 24 elements that can be included in a layout. You can make a bingo by using any element in a straight line that would make a bingo, whether it is a horizontal line, a vertical line, or a diagonal line. That means that you have to include 5 (or only 4 if you use the FREE in the center) elements in your layout. Of course, you can have more than one bingo if you want to create more than one layout. Once you post your layout, tell us what 4-5 elements from the Bingo card you are using (it is just easier for everyone to check on you! ? ) So, here is your card, for February 2024. If you are a DIAMOND member and want to create those elements, you are more than welcome. All the elements listed have a tutorial inside the membership. If you don't have access to those tutorials, or if you don't want to do anything from scratch, you can also use ready-made elements. There is no rule for or against that. The only rule: have fun and be creative!

  19. Just before I left, the Hyacinths I bought for my daughter and daughter-in-law were almost in full bloom. What a gorgeous colour your flower is. Makes up for the dismal weather outside.

  20. yes, and i was just photographing the ones for sale (additional shots) and realized I should have photographed the saucers from a straight down (flat-lay) position as they'd make cool digital elements. Just not enough time in the day to get all the things done that I want.

  21. I wish I could keep them but I have no more cupboard space, in any cupboard. I have kept about 20 of them. It took an entire day of going through them to choose which ones would go. They are little pieces of art that i can afford.
