  1. I have a couple of greetings cards to make so for the first I have utilised an effect for text from the recent master class 'Perfectly Imperfect'. For the main fill layer for the 'Maria' text I used Effects/Texture Effects/Texture 'Crumpled'. The Shininess was set to 47% which seemed to create more a gold look. I made 2 outline layers and used the Warp Brush on both. The lady in question is quite dramatic so I hope she will like the bold colours. It's her 70th so I used the pattern palette fill having created a little '70' image and kept it open on my screen in the process.

  2. I'm rather pleased with how this turned out considering I had no template. I created the mask and ran the raster-to-mask script. The background photo has an overlay layer effect. The font is Britannic Bold. Here's MAGIC!

  3. I'm adding this layout here because it's June and I'm late for the May Scraplift Challenge. The background paper is made with effects>texture effects>texture>bricks. I scuffed it up with an overlay I made from the image in the middle. The middle dandelion fluff, is one of my photo's, which i did negative image and some other unspeakable things to. Only unspeakable because I cant remember, guessing I desaturated and lowered opacity and other stuff. I used barbed wire instead of stitching, it seemed to fit better. Photo's are mine. I spray water on the seed heads and brought them in the studio to photograph. The concept needs more experimentation (perhaps with gycerine instead). Fonts: Black Range (pluviophile) & Alisabela Brushley (quote) both from Creative Fabrica. I tried putting water spots on the layout but couldnt make it look random enough so just left it off for now. Carole: should this go in the miscellanous area of the gallery or in the Scraplift part, even though I'm late with it.

  4. Hi, I'm back from my journey to visit my daughter & co and have been reading all the comments in the different sections of the Campus for over an hour now, you all have been busy! I had a massive jetlag and although I attended the masterclass this Sunday I definitively have to rewatch it, nothing registered with me. I have had a great time and am starting to make a photobook as I did before. I'm going to make a scrapbook page as introduction to the different topics of the book. After each intro page comes the "normal" pages with all my photos and stories. I don't do all the pages as a scrapbook page, that would take me months to do and family and friends over here are waiting to see my book with all the photos! I'll show the different intro pages as I finish them in this section of the Campus; they are still in random order because for some I need to do an internet search. This time they are rectangles because my book will be a rectangle and this way they cover a whole page, which I regret not doing last year.

  5. I'd love to visit up there one day. Maybe Susan and I could meet with you. What a treat!! I just got home and in my travels I snapped a shot of our sun at Noon. Scary!

  6. I'm in New York State, about 500 miles from Nova Scotia. The smoke has been filtering down through Maine, then Vermont and now here. It's said the air pollution in NY City is the worst it's ever been. The sun was effectively grayed out yesterday but better today. Running my air purifier constantly as I have COPD/Asthma. This photo from Kathleen Eastwood from my Hudson Valley in Pictures group illustrates how it looks here at sunrise lately.

  7. I did a two matching pages to celebrate Magic's 3rd birthday. They had a fun pinata party. They sent 10 photos so it worked with Carole's new Hanging Photos 2 template. I totally used a birthday mini-kit from Melissa Lerin. I'll try to post a preview with the two layouts.

  8. I've had Fox News on this afternoon and they've been talking about it a lot and showing lots of images and live cams. They even said that because of all the people coming in and going out of their building, there is a smoke smell inside as well. Of course, not as bad as outside but after time it probably builds up. What has been interesting is that they have shown a map (like radar) that shows the likely movement of the smoke in the next 2 days. Pittsburgh is going to hit hard and I'm on the edge of what will hit Ohio so the air quality here will be worse in the next couple of days. Looks like Friday might be the bad day here. Unfortunately, I don't have any N or K95 masks, just the regular surgery masks and a couple of cloth masks. I hope it isn't too bad when I run my errands tomorrow.

  9. A drive along the St. Lawrence River to the east coast is such an amazing trip. The road winds along beside the river and the scenery all the way is spectacular! And you can see whales sometimes too.

  12. Yes, my Dad drove a City Bus. Dad worked 2-11 and I was in school until 3 or so...we were not home or awake a lot at the same time. I would walk to the bus stop (Dad drove the route through our neighborhood so it was a short walk) and ride a trip with Dad...about an hour's ride. Sometime we had ice cream!

  13. Thanks, Carole. Actually, Magic's dad is overly tall (6 feet/5 inches) and I wanted to show that effect.

  14. Trying out the Shape Cutter. Here are a couple of small images. The second one is of Magic as an infant with a cutout of Dad and current Magic. I think I like the silhouettes the best.

  15. I was surprised to learn I won the Phrase Strips script! I had to play with it which took a bit of time as I made the adjustments to the script itself (as per instructions included) and needed some help from Carole. My deadlines for two projects are now behind me (other stuff) and I can get back to PSP time. I like the "idea" of this layout, but I'm not entirely pleased with the harsh white background. I had to leave it like that b/c I'm not much good at extracting an image and getting a transparent background (the sketch of Mrs. Roosevelt). If I changed or softened the background, then the borders of the sketch were too visible. It's a skill I have to acquire.... Otherwise, I'm happy with the phrase strips and how to use them. Thanks Carole!

  16. Corrie - this is beautiful. Glad you are back and so glad you had a wonderful time. Looking forward to what you post about your trip. On another note - I never thought about doing a scrapbook photobook as an 8-1/2 X 11 rectangle - great thought.

  21. This is my take on remembering my father on Father's Day. I have pictures of Rudy as I knew him (when older), but I have such a soft spot for this photo of him (from his passport) when he looks so young and vulnerable. He was beset with many trials when he was young (in Europe), but he became a gentle and kind man despite the challenges. My dad....? I used several backgrounds of paint splashes and splatters b/c I love using them. The background paper is from Digital Scrapbooking (M. Lerin, yesteryear) and lots of recoloring and blending. None of the materials used are mine, except the bevelled frame. I like ripped and torn pieces and asymmetrical designs.

  22. I live in Virginia near Washington, DC. We can smell smoke and there is a haze. The sun has been hidden. I think the wind is suppose to shift tomorrow and perhaps blow the smoke somewhere else. Air quality is awful.

  23. I know, right? Sci-fi imagination, I get that.

  24. Yes, that was the sun at Noon. I walked out of the house and saw a red light glowing on the first car in line and I'm wondering where's the red light coming from but when I got out from under the porch and looked up, I saw that weird sun. Looks like we're on Mars with strange moons floating around! ? There goes my sci-fi imagination again! ? And, yes, I was at the supermarket and a lot of people were wearing masks, though I don't think indoors is necessary with the smoke. I came home and got out my N95 and felt lucky to have them! Used them to lug in the groceries, anyway. ?

  27. Ann that would be at top of my bucket list. I've met so many interesting wonderful people and would love to meet in person. Sounds like Julie is close by so we all decend on Carole....she might run when she see's us coming. ? Was your sun really red. We had that too, a couple weeks ago. It feels very apocalyptic doesnt it. One day when I go home from work there were no birds singing or even flying around and it was so eerie. Stay safe and keep that air filter going. My eyes and throat took a beating. I have some of my gym equipment in our small garage (we have two) and I felt really crappy after my workout, then I found out we werent supposed to be doing strenuous activities outside.

  29. With the air quality being what it is because of the wildfire, authorities recommend we use N95 masks if we have some and need to be outside. A lot more people have had those masks since the pandemic started! if not, I guess any mask can help to a certain degree.

  30. All the way over here in Ohio, we are having air quality in the moderate to unhealthy range per AirNow.gov. Can't see smoke but when I was out earlier, there was a different smell to the air. It was in the unhealthy range at that time but has now dropped down to the moderate range. I had trouble breathing just the couple of minutes I was out. I've decided to keep windows and doors closed today.

  31. Wow I looked up where you live and it's beautiful. Shameful I couldn't picture where NB was in my head. What a great location, I bet there is a lot of historical buildings there. Looks like I'll put that on the bucket list of places to visit and photograph (when we retire).

  33. @Ann Seeber One little trick you might want to use is to hold the Shift key when you draw a preset so it keeps the original proportions. In the last images, it looks like it is a little stretched vertically, compared to the original.

  35. I am the lucky one who won the wool2 tubes from Cassel and I tried something with it. The background paper is by Marisa Lerin Own pictures. Our daughter's dog regularly comes on holiday for a week while she is on the move for work.

  37. I will look for The Doctor Blake Mysteries. Thank you. We did watch the season 1 behind the scene and see that season two has one as well. I enjoy behind the scenes shows. She is the woman every woman would like to be for sure. I think I'm more like Dot....but not as smart or capable with a thread and needle. ? Thanks for giving us a new show to look for. Since we gave up Netflix we've been watching a lot of good shows in U-tube.

  38. Oh yes, and it's just the best show. Jack has the most beautiful voice wouldnt you say. And Phryne, her clothes and just the way she is, love it. It's a fabulous show. We are getting it (in Canada) on utube...until our powers that be cut us off that is. We were watching Poirot, Miss Marple and other Agatha Christie movies and now our govt has blocked those due to new legislation. FUN POLICE are alive and well at the CRTC (our regulatory body). Thank you for your comments. Do you watch this show as well. We are almost binge watching in case we lose it. Currently on Season 2 around episode 10 I think. The set is so richly decorated and fashion is stunning.

  39. So, I'm playing with Steve's Rainbow again. I took a section of the rainbow and played with Effects>Reflection>Feedback and came up with one I liked; put it on a larger canvas size and duplicated, flipped and rotated it until I had a pattern I liked and then made a background paper of it. Used Cass' Mask from Mask Workshop Extra 3. The font is Bluebell. Canvas frame is of course from a selection and inner bevelled.

  40. I am watching this Australian Mystery series on utube and there was a scene with a cool design in the building (picture below). I wanted to try and receate the graphic version. I cant wait till we do the Vector workshop. I used vectors to create it and did some problem solving along the way. I'm happy with what I did this time. I didnt quite get the proportions right. When I know better I'll do better. I was playing with what to do with the background when I tried the gradient called "Underworld" so my theme was gambling in the underworld (too much watching the TV show Supernatural). I used the eraser tool to fade out the bottom as if it was descending to the underworld. It was the first time using the Custom Playing Card script from Carole. I LOVE IT. I learned to click "cancel" when choosing a photo and "cancel" again to continue the script and ended up with the layers of, white background and card number/suit. I put the same gradient on the card, lightened, and put my photo's on. I can see a lot of ways to use this script. My original layout was quite dark (my monitor is very light so it's hard to know what it looks like) so I lightened it up for the forum/gallery. My photo's of a recent studio shoot, fun with expiring dandelions. Font is Vanilla Right.

  42. Let's start with a new Wildcat Calendar for June. Here's the Ocelot, a medium size wild cat. Found mostly in Texas, Central and South America, and a few islands. They have been hunted for their beautiful fur coats and recently, females killed and kittens stolen for the sale as pets. That doesn't usually work out once the cat is full grown and they end up in shelters or worse. I'll post a full size image on our Scrapbooking with PaintShop Pro Facebook group.
