I wonder if there are specific settings needed for the file to be usable in PSP? Expand The layers panel in PSP had the grey photo areas as separate layers. I suppose if you wanted, a mask group could be made of them then slide the photo into the group. A long time ago when I took a class on PSE, I did an experiment. I made the same layout in both programs. Some people complained about the size of their PSD files with some files being well over 100MB. At that time my pspimage files were usually around 50MB since I did very basic layouts so I wanted to see what the comparison was. I found that the PSD file was much larger than my PSP layout. I think the difference is when PSE/PS do the clipping of the photo, it still keeps the full size photo in the clipped layer. At the time I did this comparison I was doing a selection of the photo space layer in the template and deleting the excess on the actual photo layer so there was a smaller size photo in the layers palette. (This was before I knew about masking or had your scripts "Raster to Mask" and "Merge Group Rename"). Note: I used the same psd template in both programs. All of that is to say that I think Affinity handles clipping the same as PS/PSE. It leaves the original photo size in the layers instead of a smaller version of what exactly is shown in the layout. 6

Expand Rene: that phenomenon of retaining the full photo has always annoyed me in PSP so, as I'm an inveterate fiddler with the layers, I always trim it to size. I had a hard time with the Text technique shown on Day 5, using the Recolor Adjustment Layer and Mask Layer. The outside part of the Text would disappear as soon as the mask was created. To make a long story short, after watching the video quite a few times and comparing it with my setup, I noticed a difference in the Recolor Adjustment Layer shown in the video and mine. I was working in Affinity 2.6. I tried the technique in Affinity 2.57, and it worked perfectly. However, I didn't add it to the layout because I was tired of working with it. Corrie Kinkel Posted February 23 Posted February 23 (edited) Day 7 and that is the end of our visit to Yosemite NP. I have used the Cover template to make a backside for the magazine, but rotated it to landscape. I kept the lines to have consistently, but used a different color to suit the photo. The website I mention is the existing one for the national parks website which also have the black rectangle to point you to their apps. Originally I wanted to have a QR-code on the back but the website and leaflets from the NPS doesn't have one. All the photos are by me. I still have to make 2 extra pages to complete my magazine. I don't know if I'm going to print it, maybe I will try to make a flipover as mentioned in the last Q&A and send the links to some people. Edited February 23 by Corrie Kinkel changed a word 2 11

Expand What I like about Merge-Group-Rename is that as long as you run the script when you are on the photo layer of the group, it gives the raster layer the photo name instead of something like "merged group" or another generic name. Very helpful if I use an image from my camera where I took a lot of photos of the same thing. Knowing exactly which image I used can be useful if I want to know in the future. 5 2

Jeni Simpson Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Day 7 I chose to re-create the cover on the back. Using a photograph taken on that same day we travelled over Mount Hope, we popped across the road to another farm that comes under the umbrella of Mount Hope Station. It is run by one of the sons currently. It encompasses the creek, Shingle Creek that goes down to the Clutha River. Far in the distance is a mail boat that brings cyclists to the cycle trail and wanders around the lakeside and across farmland before joining the main highway through this part of Central Otago. I created 3 different back covers, with the photograph cut into 1, 2, and 3 pieces. I chose a single image in the end. I stayed with white borders and chose to do all text in the green, with the title and body copy aligned right, in the panel. 3 10

Corrie Kinkel Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Here are my last two extra pages for the magazine and I used two templates, number 3 is rotated to the right and number 4 is one of the extra diamond templates. I have enjoyed doing this workshop in Affinity and overall it worked fine. Some things just took me more time then in PSP, but I learned from it! Tomorrow I will have a look on how to make a digital flipover book. If that works I'll post the link in here. Carole thank you for a fun workshop and all of you for the comments and inspiration with so many lovely pages. ❤️ 2 10
Gerry Landreth Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) Day 6. This was the first time I met Corinne, my youngest niece at the time. She still makes me smile. @Cassel I noticed that there was a glitch with the triangles on yesterday's project which was created in Affinity. I neglected to fill in the caption before converting the square to a mask, leaving holes in the top picture. In PSP, I could activate the mask layer and fill the triangle with white. I haven't figured out an easy way to fix it in Affinity. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks. Edited February 24 by Gerry Landreth 1 13
