Your magazine will really look like a magazine!

I don't know about that... I'll do my best! 😄  But yes, the most important thing for me is learning about the program, how the tools work, etc.

This takes time, but it was the same when I learned PSP.    Right at the beginning, I was overwhelmed, but slowly, everything made sense.

Here is my Day 2.

The layout is similar to the one I created for the 2023 Magazine Workshop with minor tweaks.

I added more text and one more element.

There you go; my magazine doesn't look like a real magazine. Too many years of scrapbooking! 😄

@Euka and @Susan Ewart I've been to Coober Pedy.  It is a really interesting place.  Not really anything like Kalgoorlie, in fact I don't think it's like any other place I've ever seen.  We were in our caravan, and at the caravan park we had to pay for showers. And to fill up our tanks we had to pay for water. And the houses are underground, and the temperature underground was so cool, it was sweltering on the ground level, but in the houses underground the temp was amazingly comfortable.  The landscape outside was like what you would expect to see on the moon.

@Jen Brown Curiosity question: on that quilt, is the patterned square appliqued?

Expand

The pattern square isn't appliqued. It's such an easy pattern to follow and make. Here is how each of the blocks is made:

How cool that the houses are underground.  It's amazing that people can live there.  Water must be in short supply there.

Jen, who is the dog in your picture.  He/she is so cute and wow, the size of those feet.  I love quilts and marvel at anyone who can sew.

And here is my Day 2 page. This is obviously a drone photo.

Look how precise this photographer is: the moon is inside the iron cross and he even lined up the radio antenna at the bottom!

And here is Day 3. I copied the large frame from the cover template because I felt it needed more color. I thought the photo looked "naked" without a frame!

I enjoy seeing this bit of Malmo. I've never been there, but I feel I know it a bit from my voracious reading of Henning Mankell years ago. He was such a literary treasure.

Corrie, seeing this El Capitan boulder that close must have been impressive!

Some time ago, I read about Alex Honnold, who climbed this rock without ropes or other safety gear. The entire climb was filmed for NatGeo.

Expand

Yes this giant rock is open to experienced climbers but only on certain months of the year, due to weather conditions. It takes a many hours to complete the climb and many choose to stay over night. In the summer evenings you can see tiny lights on the wall where they "camp"  on a small platform hanging on that wall. ðŸ˜±

This  cover page was created in Affinity. It's a little bigger than 8.5 X11 because that's what Blurb requires.

Day 3 PSP: On the original text layer, I added a small stroke in black since my font is not a thick font. Then I duplicated it and changed the color to white for the words over the image to make them stand out more. Although the letters off the photo don't show as well. I will probably change this up before finalizing the layout for printing.

Day 3 Affinity: I had no photos that would fit the photo space so I chose to use 2 photos and moved them to the top of the page. I then added the names of the individuals on top of the photos. I also added another photo to the bottom of the page and put the title overlapping that image. It works but I'm not really liking it. I will probably change this page before finalizing the project.

Cassel wondered how large that rose was.  I don't remember exactly, but it was fairly large, but I did zoom in quite a bit. There are several ladies that take good care of the flowers etc at our church where this rose was.

Staying with the waterfall theme, here is my first page. It's a little wordy but I am trying to make it look like and article that might appear in a magazine.

Day 3 - The background is from my papers workshop. I made the mask when I was playing with making masks. I thought that the Hibiscus flower was appropriate for Thailand. The font is atara grunge Regular from CF. I originally applied a style to the font in PSE and opened it in PSP. Then I added vibrancy to make it stand out more. I seem to have this sickness about not putting square or rectangular photos in my templates.
