Journaling is a common term used in scrapbooking, but what does it really mean? Does it mean writing a journal, like when those "personal diaries" were so popular, in high school? Not at all. Of course, if you want to journal in that way, that is fine. It is YOUR project after all, but that is not the necessity.

10 minutes to scrap – Text and Title
At this point, you should already have your project "almost" done. With the photos fixed, and the papers chosen, layered, and arranged. It is time to add some journaling and a title. Although a picture is worth a thousand words, it does not always convey all the information YOU know about it, so anyone else looking at it won't get the whole story if you don't write it.
A photo is worth 1,000 words… really?
We all know of the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words”, and we have certainly seen some of those; photos that are beyond words, photos that “say it all”. The truth is that not all photos say that much. In fact, most photos don’t tell anything to someone who was not there when it was taken. If you want to use those photos in a scrapbooking page, you will have to tell it yourself.
