Nice generic layout style, and great paper choices!

National Geo. magazine sends me emails about their features. They have an article about lesser-known wild cats. Because I don't subscribe, I wasn't able to see more than one.

This sounds too much like physics to me! You must have a math brain.

Installed quickly and easily. No glitches at all.
-
I'm pretty happy about it too! I owe Susan Ewart a glass of wine for the tip.

Oh, I can recall all too well how bumbling and stumbling I was with PSP in the beginning. There are still some things I struggle with, but I feel so much more confident now. It's important to remember that learning anything new is difficult until it gets easy!
-
You did it! I was so surprised to see you could get v. 2024 so I went to look and there it was! It's all your fault, Susan, that I just spent 160 Can$ when I wasn't going to buy anything for a while. There were comments that some folks had trouble installing it, so we'll see how that goes! I think I prefer PSE to AFF; some features/tools are just better and I have so many PS files from different designers.

This image was just too cute to pass up. I saw it, copied it from FB (the Cincinnati Zoo video post), and used it in AFF. (Quality not great). I didn't have too much trouble using the tools I wanted, but I feel so bumbling and awkward working in that environment. Just a simple layout with some elements (from ET Designs) and brush work. Used Adjustment Recolor to change the background and overlay edge. Fonts are Belmonth (script) and Tuce. Oh, and he's a porcupine.

Yeah, check with me in about two to three years, and I should be quite fluent in Affinity, if I don't give up before then!😛

And since you're being so helpful, do you know any way to control the size of the windows in AFF? If I move a window too much, it jumps into full size and then I have to drag the corners and keep adjusting to get it more manageable. Seems like a lot of time spent doing that.

I didn't notice the top dropdown list. I was only opening the lower file type list!!!! Oh duh!!!!
-
Wouldn't have noticed but for your mentioning it! Hope Carole can help with that.

I really like this effect. I used it recently and I think it adds so much to a layout.

This photo came to me from a friend whose g'daughter this is. She is 11 years old! I used PSP for this layout. I tried doing the extraction in AFF and it worked fine, but I wasn't able to export the image as .png. I looked up how to do it, but when I tried, there was no option for any format but JPEG. I extracted her from the white background and used materials from different designers. I just needed to do a layout since I haven't had much time lately.

Yes, some things are quite straight-forward (now that Carole has shown some basics), but the ability to "select subject" is a bug-a-boo for me. The folks at AFF have not figured that one out yet, the way PS has.

You have no idea how envious I am that you are seeing signs of spring! It'll be many long weeks before that happens here! This is a fabulous layout with some very interesting techniques and elements. It has a hopeful, positive feeling to it. I also saw the "Mask to Below" command with the right-click in AFF. I was greatly relieved to find it.

I had some time and decided to use AFF with an Anna Aspnes template (from her freebie collection) as Corrie had done. Just threw in some pix to determine how easy it would be - and it was! So I added a couple of other elements to try to balance the page a bit more. The text is not important; just typed in a few words to use that space. There were a few other things I wanted to do but couldn't figure out which tools to use (or how), so I let them go.

Making mistakes is what we all do. I'm not bothered by typos in comments and chit-chat. That happens to everyone. But in a layout, I think it's worth pointing out so the person can adjust it. I wish I had a superpower like you, Susan!

I'm sure that's true. I'll return to her later.

I watched some of Angela Toucan's videos on YT. She goes very fast, and I find that model of "instructing" doesn't work well for me as a "newbie".

That template works so well with your images. I'm happy to see someone else playing with aA Designs. I haven't yet tried using her materials in Affinity, but soon......

Did Poncho see this? How did he feel about an AI clone?😁

Thanks for the smile! I needed that just now.

That's so true, Michele. On my father's side, where there is Ashkenazi DNA, it's been a struggle to locate records of any kind. So many of them were lost for many reasons. I have even hired pro researchers in the area in Europe and they came up with nothing. Sometimes, no answer is all we can get in family history. If Henry Louis Gates Jr. would take on my family tree, we might get more. 🙂

You might be surprised what you can find online by doing a little sleuthing for clans and coats of arms, etc. That's what we genealogy types do quite a bit of.
