  1. @Carolyn Rye With more confidence, you will go faster when using masks. Those photos are great and I bet you will share them with your children and grandchildren! I am sure they would appreciate it. Maybe you can make a whole album just for them! For the way to respond, check this post. @bina greene It is ok if you opted not to use the plaid. if you learned the trick and practiced it, that was my goal. In the end, you are the one who knows what you want! And yes, Lady22 has so many great templates. That is why I love to feature them, and they are perfect to illustrate how to convert a shape into a mask. And yes, she replied to me and reuploaded the template with a new link. @Julian AdamsI could go on a longer explanation but basically, a mask is just like using a stencil to paint a pattern; the stencil part is black (which blocks the paint) and the white is where the paint will go through. The mask layer itself will have black and white (and grey) that can be added or removed. We use the Float command to transfer the "design" on the mask layer. But in the end, once you go through all the lessons, you will see how masks behave and should feel more comfortable with them. @Susan Ewartbased on your result, you certainly did it the right way. @fiona cookYou did, manually, what PSP can actually do with the Text Cutter! But that is totally alright! @kasanyDid you intend to have the main picture faded in the background? If so, it is ok. If not, it might be because the mask was more grey and black instead of white and black. @Donna Sillia Yum!!!! At least, there is no calorie while enjoying looking at that dessert! @Lynda DiGregorAre you taking those photos? Those flowers are remarkable! And that home away from home doesn't seem so bad with those beautiful flowers! @Corrie KinkelKaleidoscope patterns can range from powerful to subtle. You chose a good one to enhance your photo. @Harmony BirchThat pattern really enhance the color of her hair! @Anne LampI agree with you: corn is a vegetable! What size did you resize your image? It looks smaller than 600 pixels. @Marie-ClaireThose daffodils are brightening that page!!! I am really surprised that Poncho is not into modeling for you! He looks so great! @sharon thompsonI am really not sure how you ended up with the layer combo as you did. My suggestion is to just continue, and pay attention to all the steps and how they affect the layers. Maybe you will notice at what point the process stopped matching the tutorial and that might give you a hint of what was happening at the time. When you have time, you might revisit this one tutorial at the end. @Ann SeeberYes, be careful with the kaleidoscope: it is addictive! @Gerry Landreth In a way, I am happy I have only one cat now. I remember when I had two and they would wake up in the middle of the night. @Bonnie Ballentine Reusing the same pattern can work very well, and it would be easy to tweak the colors and the effects as needed. @Rene Marker You are doing great with masks and I love those you chose to use. They fit well to showcase the photos. @Emerald JayThank you for helping Sharon. I think it is very possible that she clicked Greyscale by accident since it is right above the Negative image! For your kaleidoscope, maybe you just didn't get a "good" one. Using the randomizer, you can be lucky quickly, or work longer to get something you like. Sometimes, it also depends on the colors you start with too.
  2. I am not sure how you got to that point, but a mask layer is always just in greyscale so there is no color. Can you just undo a few steps until the group is back to a group? You don't need to merge the group; you can just collapse it.
  3. @Rene Marker Oh I see. I wonder if a reverse shadow would make a little separation between the two photos? That is going to be a great album and hopefully, you will have enough templates to help! @Susan EwartIt is interesting how you combined the two photos into a single mask. Great job. @Carolyn RyeHopefully, these exercises will help you grasp the concept of masks more than before. Those children are adorable! @bina greeneI understand your reasoning for not putting the exact location. However, I am curious and it is nice to get even a general location (even just the country) when you have such beautiful photos. I have not heard back from Lady22 yet, so I put a link to a different template that is of similar type. @Julian AdamsYou raise a good point. The steps that include the Float is a bit like making a selection with the Magic Wand to then reporting it onto the mask. The difference is that the Float command will maintain the semi-transparency of the section while a selection made with the Magic Wand would not, and would give a very pixellated shape. After a while, it will just become a habit. @fiona cookIt is great to see that you are comfortable enough with the mask to adjust it to fit your need. Corrie was spot on about the shadow being inside the mask group... so it was masked! @Ann Seeber I thought I recognized that font! I have used it before too! @MoniqueN. I didn't know that about the green color. Isn't that interesting? @Barbara Caulton I don't know why that step would freeze your PSP. Did you manage to get it done? Otherwise, you could try with the Hue/Saturation/Lightness and change the Lightness to get the same effect. I love your idea of the first seven weeks of the puppies' life for the 7 lessons! @Emerald Jay That is such a cutie! I am glad you found another template on the blog. She has so many to choose from! @Donna Sillia I love chocolate too. Will we have more chocolate pages? For the page with the red plaid, it definitely matches the blanket. I think that the outline on the text makes it a little harder to read. What would it look like without it? @sharon thompson I am glad to see your progress. Your reasoning is really on point in how you do things and why. I am sure this "thinking out loud" will be helpful to others reading it. @Corrie KinkelYou know that the X's are placeholders for whatever element you want to add, right? @Gerry Landreth In order for the plaid to not overpower a page, you can do like you did and have it quite large and faint, or you can use a smaller scale, but depending on the colors, it sure can be tricky. You managed it well. It is great that you paid attention to the direction of the shadow for the butterfly! @Marie-ClaireIt seems like Poncho is always ready for a photo shoot, right? @Bonnie BallentineAre the shadows missing on your white crane layout? @Anne Lampwhy did you give up on the plaid? Were you encountering issues? @Anja Pelzergreat photos of those birds! @Harmony BirchThe Dissolve blend mode is something that is not often used. You found a great way to integrate it effectively.
  4. Do you still have toys from your childhood? Or about toys from your children when they were young? Do you keep them for the grandkids, or maybe just for nostalgia? Let's chat, and if you have pictures of those toys, share them!
  5. Oh my!!! I will reach out to the author and I added a different link in the meantime.
  6. Welcome to all the posters. At this point, we have 147 registrants! Woohoo!!! That means we should see a lot of wonderful projects in this thread. Welcome to all the newcomers to this workshop, namely @Barbara Caulton, @Diana Moore, @Mariana Trapnell, @Deana Davis, @Jen Brown, and others. If you ever get stuck, don't hesitate to ask in this forum. There is always someone ready to help (sometimes, faster than I can). Welcome to our return participants. Even with the same tutorials and templates, you can always try something slightly different. @MoniqueN. Nice photos of windmills. Can you check if you might have hidden the shadow on the bottom right photo? It seems to be missing. @Rene Marker Two layouts for the price of one! For the first layout, can you check if the shadow layer for the middle photo on the bottom might have been moved? It should be above the left photo, but it looks like it is under. @Jen Brown Cute kitty! I love the patterns you used in the background. It looks like you used washi tape! @sharon thompson Choosing photos and supplies is often the most time-consuming task. The more you have, the worse it is! LOL The mistake you made when saving in PNG, I bet you learned from it and likely won't repeat it too soon! @Deana Davis Did you end up getting the first lesson? If not, here is a little secret: you can access the lesson page through the Workshops in the DIAMOND members' section! @Gerry Landreth That font you used is a great one. Simple yet elegant! @Corrie Kinkel Those flowers really pop on the dark background! @bina greene Are those your photos? If so, where are they taken? I would love to travel with you there! Maybe you could add a location on the layout? I might just be nosey! @Anne Lamp Oh, you will get a lot of fans in this group with that Foxy girl!! @Bonnie Ballentine I am so glad you managed to get all those "ordinary" photos of day-to-day activities. This is a great snapshot of a fun activity. @Harmony Birch It is great to hear that you are already comfortable enough to tweak a mask to suit your need! @Emerald Jay Oh, another cutie!! Will we have more pictures of that little star in future lessons? If any registrants are reading this thread and have not received their confirmation emails, (1) check your spam folder or (2) reach out to me. Keep up your work, and show us your lessons. Those projects are made to be quick, so I hope you will catch up. Don't be shy!!!
  7. Yes there was. Check your spam folder. Yahoo and Google have become very picky since February 1st. If it is not there, let me know.
  8. Found it! No idea why the preview was lost: https://scrapbookcampus.com/element-creation-index/lacy-ribbon/ I'll go add the preview in the index.
  9. Oh... that is interesting. Since there is a preview, I obviously did a tutorial. Let me find it!
  10. I think you might have skipped the INVERT command. Right now, it is trying to add the bevel to the inside of the holes. If you invert the selection, it will then apply outside the holes, which is on the button itself.
  11. I am providing you with a card with 24 elements that can be included in a layout. You can make a bingo by using any element in a straight line that would make a bingo, whether it is a horizontal line, a vertical line, or a diagonal line. That means that you have to include 5 (or only 4 if you use the FREE in the center) elements in your layout. Of course, you can have more than one bingo if you want to create more than one layout. Once you post your layout, tell us what 4-5 elements from the Bingo card you are using (it is just easier for everyone to check on you! ? ) So, here is your card, for February 2024. If you are a DIAMOND member and want to create those elements, you are more than welcome. All the elements listed have a tutorial inside the membership. If you don't have access to those tutorials, or if you don't want to do anything from scratch, you can also use ready-made elements. There is no rule for or against that. The only rule: have fun and be creative!
  12. This is the perfect place to ask questions, whether they relate to the last master class or any other, so you are correct at the start. For the buttonholes, the steps are: create a vector circle and align it on the guide duplicate it, and mirror it select both circle OBJECTS (holding the Shift key) go to Selection > From vector object. This should make a selection from those circles you drew. If you still have the Ellipse tool active, it is possible that you won't SEE the marquee but it is there. Change tool if you want to be sure hide the vector layers (otherwise, they will hide the holes) activate the colored layer for the button delete. That should delete only the holes area Let me know if it works.
  13. What is the most snow that you have seen in your area? When did that happen? What would you do if you were buried under that much snow? Let's chat.
  14. You might want to review this article: https://scrapbookcampus.com/2018/02/creating-your-own-preset-shapes-in-psp/ The naming convention might be the issue here.
  15. You can also post them in your personal gallery as a way to have them all together.
  16. I just thought it would be a little easier to find our stuff by dividing the thread in months!
  17. Do you want to challenge yourself to take photos every week for a year? Maybe you want to practice your photography skills, or just try to capture "ordinary" daily occurrences. Let's just encourage each other. This is a no-pressure thread, and you can share the photos you took or the theme you are going for (if you are going with a theme). And if you don't want to share the photos yet, and only showcase them once they are in a montage or a scrapbook page, you can just say that you did it. And it is ok to start your 52 weeks at any time. It does not have to start in January!
  18. Please try again. It was my error!
  19. This challenge has had great success in the past so we can continue to have it on a regular basis, don’t you think? Just like those “some assembly required” kits that you can buy for a shelf, a chair, or a picnic table, I am including a 3600×3600 pixels canvas with some shapes. You HAVE to use the shapes in the size and proportions they are. You can move them, rotate them, flip them, and rearrange the layering if you want but you cannot resize them. You need to use ALL the pieces but you can add more if you want. So it is like all the pieces to build a DIY shelf: you cannot change the size of the pieces but you can use them creatively. Obviously, you will want to recolor them or replace them with papers, photos, etc. We just need to be able to recognize the initial shapes. Here is a preview of the shapes involved. Because of the size of the shapes, there can be overlaps. Will it be for papers or photos or both? That is up to you! And this time, I am including little dots. How will you use them? Click here to download the layered template. Post your projects in the gallery.
  20. I also get the inability to react. In that case, I tend to just refresh the page. I am not sure if the site forgets you are logged in after X number of hours of idle.
  21. Oh, you are right. Strangely, I had not seen it go through. Usually, I see them because I get a notification for EVERY post in the forum. I must have been sleeping on the job!
  22. What shows up here is the normal thread. Do you see something odd in that thread?
  23. The theme for February is WEDDING. I suspect that this would be a fairly easy theme to showcase layouts you might have already done for your own wedding, a relative's, or a friend's. That is a theme that generates so many photos that are just waiting to be showcased! Let's go! Post your project in the gallery.
  24. In February, our monthly theme is WEDDING. There is so much surrounding a wedding, from the venue to the participants, from the decorations to the celebration. What words can we find that will start based on the alphabet? Let's go!
  25. It is a new month and new projects. Show off what you are working on in February be it a scrapbook page, a collage, a tutorial, or anything else you want. We are curious and want to see, learn, and get inspired. These threads are quickly becoming a fantastic source of inspiration, support, and friendship. Keep them coming! Remember to size down your image to about 600x600 pixels and save it in .jpg format before posting it (if you are creating a double page, you can resize it to 1000 pixels in width if you don't want to post the pages separately). Here are a few guidelines for everyone: when you post a project, give as much information on your sources or techniques used. It will help others who are curious and would like to do the same. if someone uses something that you like on their page, ask where they got it. Sometimes, you can go get it too and it will be better quality than trying to extract it (as it would have been resized to post in the forum anyway). if it is something that they did from scratch, ask how they did it. It would be so helpful to everyone! if you like a photo and would like to “play with it”, ALWAYS ask permission. Sometimes, there are some limitations and the person is not allowed to let others use it. Don’t get them in trouble. Usually, people are happy to say yes (if they can) when you ask politely. And if you get permission, you might get a better-quality image than the resized image anyway.
