What I am not able to do, with many of the fonts I use regularly, which are not part of a family, change those fonts to italic, shoud I want too, or bold for that matter, unlike in PSP. Sorry, I must have misunderstood something. I agree that it would be nice to change the fonts to italic or bold, but it is not possible at this time in Affinity. Each program has their pros and cons. 4
Susan Ewart Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Day 7 finally complete Thank for the wonderful workshop and I was happy relearn how to move masks. I had forgotten. this is a busy layout for me, but fun to follow through with. I changed sizes of the tile i used (brush from CASS-summer time -sun shape) and was going back and forth when i left one layer on and saw the result of the two sizes together. this is a photo from a couple years ago (or more) when i was doing a bunch of flat-lay flower photography. 1 1 11
Susan Ewart Posted June 25 Posted June 25 And here are the various papers I could have used. I used Paper 1 +2 (rather, tile size 1 + 2). it's interesting what comes out of accidently having two layers on that I'm comparing. It sent me down a rabbit hole playing with combinations. Probably too busy for me to use but would blend into a background maybe. 3 8
MoniqueN. Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) Lesson 7 Sometimes adding apaper is more than enough, that was the case with this mask, photo and paper too. 🙂 Thank you again for the nice lessons, Carole, I really enjoyed it! 🙂 Tomorrow I will finally have a look at all the nice projects I saw here 🙂 I just wanted to catch up with the lessons first 🙂 Edited June 25 by MoniqueN. 13

Perhaps down the road, they may make the bold and italic tool available to be used with every font. 6

gwen jewitt Posted June 25 Posted June 25 (edited) Well I started off with day 1 and 2 in paintshop pro with the intention of carrying on through to 7 but alas that's not to be I am in for cataract surgery tomorrow but I have squeezed in day 7 lesson I really enjoyed doing this one I changed the polka dot to a pattern using Effects- Reflection effects-pattern and I put the owl inbetween the background and the dots. The font I used was Baby Garland. There are some mistakes I made but too tired to go back to iron them out. Thank you Carole for all your hard work we all appreciate it. Jeni Simpson Posted June 25 Posted June 25 I am impressed by all the birds, and bees photographs, they are all so clean and crisp. I love them. My bee photographs are similar to Susan's; where the bees photobombed the photographs. I have almost always used point-and-shoot cameras, and my photographs aren't nearly as crisp. 7 1
Jeni Simpson Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Gwen, all the best for your cataract surgery tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you. 7 1

Corrie, I wasn't happy with Corel when they bought from Jasc. There were things I could no longer do, though now, that was so long ago, I have forgotten. I kept at PSP and love it. When I began studying graphic design on a computer, after about 30 years as a graphic designer, illustrator, and paste-up artist, in 1994, it was on an Apple Mac with Photoshop 3.0 and I had to learn CorelDRAW for my graphics on a PC. So I knew Corel a bit and wasn't too concerned about them taking over PSP. There was a period of change from Jasc to Corel. Edited June 26 by Jeni Simpson 4

I read it all and the pledges. It's good to know they have theses pledges and that consumers can hold them to it. One company I worked for ended up getting sold just to the competitor couldn't have it, in the end sold it again to holding company that just buys and sells companies. This Canada wide company basically died. I think there is one location left which is an online store. They no longer have the clout to compete in the market they are in anymore. In my personal experiences with this is; Company gets sold, new owners say nothing will change, first thing new owners do...change everything. But, it's good for Affinity as there will be more money for development and Canva (so far) does business in a fair, non-conglomerate, non-tech-giant way that it's main competitor does. 5

I love making background papers and I don't like them too busy. These aren't too busy you used them beautifully in your layout and it doesn't take away from the focus of the layout. 4

Magic danced as one of the Munchkin characters. I love the costume! The font is Marguerite for the title and Modern #2 for the text. I tried to make a very subtle plaid and I'm happy with it. Using PSP2023. Magic has grown! What a lovely girl! 🙂 5 3

I designed a business card for my son's business using Canva and had them print it. I made a mistake and sent the wrong card for printing. When I emailed Canva, they quickly responded requesting the correct layout and repinted the card at no cost to me even though it was my mistake. I was very impressed with their customer service and also the the print job was outstanding. 5
