I've dabbled with Affinity, already I'm finding many techniques are quicker and much more user friendly than PSP. I'm looking forward to next week's workshop. I'm one of those who learn by repetition. Sue, I, too, learn by repetition. I will continue doing workshops, even when I am more comfortable, because vectors is not something I use a lot, yet it is great to know how to create, if I ever require. 4 1
Jannette Nieuwboer Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Lesson 1 the first and the second attempt without an outline, they simply didnt showed up. The third attempt with an outline . Slowly I start liking playing with al those lines. 2 8
Susan Ewart Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Lesson 1 I did use guidelines for the bottom heart on the right, I duplicated the vector to play with it on the left, pulling it down more at the bottom. the top three I was trying to make those uneven rustic kind of hearts. It's not easy. I'd get one area I didnt like and I tried all kinds of things but never got quite what I had in mind. The arrows, middle and top, are pretty much from the tutorial and the bottom one was me trying to do something wavy, I started with an ellipse just to see what would happen. I never did get the bottom part at left end the way I wanted it. I watched the affinity video and it looks easier or is it just that Carole makes it look so easy. I am looking forward to their summer sale, at least I hope they have one. I'll be able to spend the winter playing catch up with Affinity. 12
Carolyn Rye Posted May 21 Posted May 21 (edited) Lesson 2 with PSP. Ran out of time unfortunately so my design is very basis. At least I feel like I leant something as I do each time I do one of these workshops. I had forgotten many of the details of the last one and being able to see Carole's workshop has helped me, hopefully, remember more details. Edited May 21 by Carolyn Rye 6 6

Jeni Simpson Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Day 2 These shapes vary from the ones Carole created, I used a rectangle for the top left, an ellipse for the right-hand one, and the lower shape was a symmetrical hexagon with rounded corners. There was already a set of arms on the top node, and stretching one arm slightly, all corners gave me an interesting effect, so I ran with that. 1 8
Cassel Posted May 21 Author Posted May 21 @Sharon MurrayGreat shapes. I hope it was not too complicated. @Carolyn RyeYes, we don't often use the Pen tool to create a raster layer, but it is one option. As for basic shapes, remember that this is an exercise. When you need a label, you will have more time to make some. @Sue ThomasThose are such fun tags. I bet you have quite a collection by now. @Donna SilliaMaybe you can keep the Affinity projects for next week, for the other thread so it won't confuse everyone who might be asking for help with one program and not the other. @Peggy DorganHopefully, working digitally is a bit easier than working with traditional paper supplies and tools. @JacquesTo answer your question, yes, you can modify a .pspshape file, but you would still have to re-export it so that the modified/added shapes would be exported. It is the same for .psptube files too. @Jannette NieuwboerYou can set the stroke to be transparent, but if you have a color, there is also the stroke thickness that might be set to 0, in which case, it won't appear. @Susan EwartIt is kind of fun when you get comfortable with the nodes, to create all kinds of shapes, or variations on a basic shape. @Jeni SimpsonThe symmetric shapes are really fun to play with since you can change ONE node and it repeats the effect on every "arm" of the shape. 2 2

Jannette Nieuwboer Posted May 21 Posted May 21 @Cassel HELP.....My Vector property didnt showed up yesterday!!!! (Lesson 1) I could make changes but manuel. I did what you told not in the layers palette. But in the object itself. I came where I wanted anyway but not as what was told.

Sue Thomas Posted May 21 Posted May 21 (edited) Day 3. Even though I had previously created these vector shapes, from a previous vector workshop I did them again. Edited May 21 by Sue Thomas 12

I certainly do. It takes a minor tweak of a vector shape, to change it's appearance, creating yet another one. Lol Edited May 21 by Sue Thomas 4

gwen jewitt Posted May 21 Posted May 21 (edited) Day 2 vector shapes struggling with seeing the nodes a lot of the time but persevering Made the tea cup with circles and ellipse I know it not great but gave it a go I'm sure I will improve in time. Edited May 21 by gwen jewitt 10
Gerry Landreth Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Day 1 - Got off to a slow start this week. We've had some wicked storms in the area that knocked out power. Fortunately, we had no damage. Unfortunately, the folks weren't so lucky a few miles to the west. 12

Susan Ewart Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Lesson 2 I added the outline so they are easier to see. although I like the outline on the two part label. the second one was just playing with the nodes, top one looks like a ducks foot 😅. Not the greatest shapes. Wiped out today, working with stars in my eyes and my foot elevated. I can be so dumb sometimes. The bright spot, don't have to go to work today ( I have a physical standing job). 1 10

Donna Sillia Posted May 21 Posted May 21 Day 3 - I made a new leaf to challenge myself. I am not really that happy with it, but I made a preset shape so that I could play with it. 1 11

Mary Solaas Posted May 22 Posted May 22 you all are doing great. I've had a few health issues this week and am due at the doctor's tomorrow. I have only done half of the 1st day. I will show you what I am planning to accomplish with this workshop. The photo of the bleeding heart flowers is my aim. I am working on a single bleeding heart flower that I will use as a png picture in various sizes on a branch (as in the photograph). the photo is Image by Jürgen from Pixabay. the heart is my first stage, I plan on using the other days to add to the heart until I achieve what I am aiming for. I did not do the arrow this time as in the labs I have made several arrows as well as the last workshop. 11

You have a great start to your bleeding heart. I can't wait to see it finished. Take care. 2 3
