Cassel Posted February 1 Posted February 1 The idea of one photo a week was quite popular in 2024, and it encouraged participants to take photos and showcase them without having to create a whole layout for them. In 2025, I will offer you a little twist on this. Again, the idea is only to showcase a single photo at a time. You can showcase them as a flashcard, emphasizing the letter (you can use these free cards as a basis to create your own). Of course, if you want a different format, you can use a polaroid frame, a slide, or a playing card (like Susan was doing in 2024). Choose the format you want, and keep it throughout the year. But just make sure to emphasize the first letter! Every 2 weeks, you will be asked to take a picture of something, at home (or around your home) that starts with a specific letter of the alphabet. The goal is just to be on the lookout for ANYTHING that can be photographed. You can stage the object however you want, or just take a picture of it in its natural environment. For example, you can showcase your favorite Mug, or your Pillow, or your Fireplace. You can practice your photography skills if you want, but you can just capture things as they are. Let's just encourage each other. This is a no-pressure thread. And if you skip a letter or two, you can always come back. You know your alphabet so you can easily catch up, whenever you need to. Let's continue with the letter C. It could be your livingroom Clock, a favorite Cup, your heirloom Comb, or your trusted Coffee machine! What will you showcase?
Cassel Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 I had this one ready to go! In 1988, I was working out of town and needed to fill up twice a week. In December, at the gas station, they had three draws you could enter, for each purchase: one for a big turkey, one for a super large Christmas stocking filled with toys, and one for a grandfather clock (battery operated). I would enter all three draws, but the turkey would have been a bit big for just my husband and I. For the stocking filled with toys, as I was pregnant for our first child, all of those toys were not age-appropriate for a new baby. I had commented to the attendee that the clock was likely on my wishlist. That Christmas, we travelled to Toronto, to visit my husband's family. We stayed there for about a week. When we came back, my husband went over to that gas station to buy something and the attendee mentioned that I had won the clock. They had tried to reach us, but we didn't have cell phones back then, and I guess we didn't have answering service on our landline phone, so they could not reach us! We still have the same clock since 1988. We had to replace the mechanism once, and refinish the middle part that was slightly damaged. The fake pendulum has long been gone, especially after having some curious kids over the years. 7
Ann Seeber Posted February 1 Posted February 1 (edited) You knew that C is for Cat, right? But you probably were not expecting a Ceramic Cat. Rene Marker Posted February 1 Posted February 1 C is for Counted Cross Stitch. This was a hobby that I did a lot back in the late 1980's/early 1990's. I had subscriptions to several cross stitch magazines. One of them was known for having patterns for series that would be published over several issues. One of those series was for the 50 states. A very simple pattern for each state. I have Ohio framed and hanging in my office. The Ohio I made for my mom always hung in the basement family room and when I had it gutted, I gave it to my cousin when she bought her new house. I made some of the other states for friends and relatives. Then I got the idea of making each one of them and have a quilt made. I had 13 of the states done then I stopped cross stitching for quite a few years. They've been stored all these years. This past fall I got interested in stitching again. When I went through my supplies and stuff in storage, I found the states. Then my focus changed on what to do with them. I am going to stitch all the states I have visited. My vision is to have them hanging on my wall in a way that I can add to it when I visit a new state. It is hard to describe what I want to do in words but just know, it will be cool when done (and no framing is involved). So I have done 4 more states before I put it away from the months of December and January due to my vision issues. I've had my eyes checked and my prescription had really changed which made everything blurry. The new glasses have helped extremely! In the meantime, I pulled out an unfinished latch hook and worked on it. Once I finish it, I will start cross stitching again. This photo shows 9 of the states I have visited (including my home state of Ohio). 3 1 5

Corrie Kinkel Posted February 1 Posted February 1 This item is one of the most important ones in our house! We do love our coffee and after breakfast our day begins with a cup of coffee and the (digital) newspaper. Without coffee nothing runs well in this household! 6

Anne Lamp Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Clothes pin bag my Grandmother made me shortly after I was married, so over 55 years ago. I never let it hang outside, and the last bunch of years it has been hanging in my basement next to the washing machine. I do have clothes lines down there that I use to partially dry most stuff before putting them in the dryer. PS For A & B challenges I did not read the instruction well enough to see it was supposed to be one photo, so I am using a different background. It is a card and envelope. 3 3
Susan Ewart Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Colour or Color! These cubes started out as playing cards. it's part of a print run that I bought last year in my color group. the big beast is 4 cubes (not the same as the ones around it) to make a ginormous cube. This cube represents the 3 dimensions of color and how color moves from one to another, or what color (or Hue is like) to come out of the mix and what has to come into the mix to go from one Hue to the next. What's on the inside you ask...perhaps I will crack it open and in the future. this was a big scary build, I only had one set to work with so i had to get it right. took me 6 months to get up my nerve to do it. Each cube consists of 6 panels and on the big one I had to affix magnets on the inside so the the big cube can stick together. I have playing cards to match the 3 cubes on the left below( including what's on the inside). the 4th cube on the far right is a mini version of the big one, but you cant see inside that one. Only one corner is not seen in this photo. any guesses what's on that color. Hint: if you were to look at one corner and go diagonal through the middle of the cube to the corner on the bottom you'd find the opposite color. 3 opposites with the corners exposed there is only one left and it's opposite of the corner pointing right at you. 2 4 1
