I have never heard the word before (either brolly or bumbershoot).  They are super cool words if you ask me.  Wish I knew all the cool words like the old people do...hahaha, I know I'm one of the old people when I "think" I'm not "one of the old people".

Question for Ann:  when you have words in "quotations" and it's the end of the sentence, where does the period go, outside the quotes or inside?

I was taught on the inside; like "bumbershoot." But those rules vary by country and change over time so don't "quote" me! 😁

I remember the word "Bumbershoot" but I'm not sure where I heard it - maybe when I was living in the UP?  Is it a "Yankee" word?

I got the impression he thought it was a comical name. He probably heard it used in NYC when he worked as a runner on Wall Street or on the railroad where he worked for 40 years, ending up as a chief night dispatcher for the Erie out of Hoboken, NJ

  3. S = Stocking - we hang empty stockings for Santa or his helpers to fill on Christmas Eve. And if you find one filled with coal instead of gifts you know that person has been deemed "naughty."

I found this gorgeous solstice background on Creative Fabrica in a bundle of twelve. It was hard to pick just one. The girls are from pngtree, I think. To create the "window" I combined a rectangular vector with an ellipse vector, magic wand selected on the outside, switched to a layer with a duplicate of the background, and deleted. Then I modified the selection with Select Selection Borders for the outline around the window. Added a little inner bevel on the text (Avenida LET font) and a drop shadow with 100% opacity and no blur. The singers got a smaller inner bevel just to give them a little depth. I kind of liked having the same background design in two different sizes. Any suggestions?

Brolly is most commonly used. I can not recall anyone ever calling it an umbrella, not even my parents. Even Umbrella manufacturers refer to them as brollys in their marketing. It isn't a slang word either.

My Dad, born in 1892, called it a Bumbershoot! 😉 I know that "brolly" is used in Great Britain, Canada and Australia but not here in the States, usually.

I'm still working on my calendar

I added a back page with all 13 images reduced plus I corrected the grid on December and now had those two pages printed at Staples. They were so nice and refused to charge me anything! They had printed my original 13-page calendar and added a coil at the top. Now these two extra pages are punched for the coil also. I ❤️ Staples!

  7. My husband and I stayed at the Las Brisas resort in Acapulco only once. We went to Acapulco every January for a week's vacation when our business was on winter hiatus but usually used a high-rise hotel on the beach.  Las Brisas was located at the far end of the resort area and up on the hill instead of right on the beach. Everyone got their own little "casita" (small cabin) with its own or shared private pool. The terrain was extremely steep so we were encouraged to rent one of their vehicles, which were open-top pink Jeeps! Inside the casita was a bed, table, chairs and small bathroom area. Built into a wall was a small hatch which opened from inside and outside so the workers could deliver fresh, hot coffee and pastries early each morning, ready for us when we woke up. This was my definition of LUXURY! The images are from my very first Travel Time class back in 2020. It was my first when I joined The Campus and wouldn't you know I started immediately with double layouts!

What happens when you try to use TheFontThing?

Also, Character Map does not replace the font viewer; it only allows you to use extra glyphs that are not readily, and the font has to be installed anyways.

The way I am using TFT is to access fonts that are not installed. You can do the same with Nexus font I think.

Actually, Nexusfont displays all my fonts in two groups. Installed via Windows and Other Fonts, which I've added myself.

  9. Welcome to December. Here is the December calendar featuring the Amur Leopard this time. Enjoy. I even used a little Out of Bounds on this one.  I have posted a full size version on Facebook that will print 11"x8.5" I feature mine on my desktop. The leopard information is from the Beardsley Zoo in Connecticut, where they have successfully bred some new members of this endangered species.

Edit: forgot to name the Amur Jaguar font - Sedalia and the journaling is Arial Narrow.

I had replaced the zip file on the server. Just to make sure, I changed the name now and added b at the end of the filename.

@Cassel ok, I got it and corrected my files. Now to figure out how to get Staples to print one page for me. Luckily, it's at the end so it won't make a big difference. I may just throw it in the package and explain to the kids that it's just for December and can wait until the rest of the year is finished.

    Amazingly, you are the first.

For anyone who has not fixed that, and don't want the trouble of doing it, I have updated the download file so you can get a CORRECT month.

@Cassel Nov/Dec were on Day 6 but the file still has Sat as Dec 1. Did you put it somewhere else?

The good thing is that it was fast. Using other online print shops would take a couple of weeks each time so fixing any error would not be good.

Hoping your local Staples is close-by. That was a big plus for me, and I found the price to be reasonable, especially since they had to ditch the first print run because of MY error. Nice people here - is Staples a Canadian company? 😉

I just ordered from Staples too. Are you happy with the quality?

Well, it was a bit of a saga, but I was happy in the end. I started Saturday placing an order online for my 13 page calendar with coil binding at the top on high gloss paper. After sending the files through, on Sunday, I think it was Susan who mentioned having to lighten them up, and I smacked my forehead and said: Self! Of course, they have to be lightened! I always lighten a print job at home but forgot for Staples! So I called and after a long wait found it was already printed and yes, it was too dark. So, consulting with the nice customer service, my order was cancelled, and I was advised to adjust the files myself and place a totally new order. No charge! So, I did that on Sunday, and it said it would be ready to pick up (only 10 minutes away) Monday at 8:30pm. Instead, I waited until Tuesday noon and went to the store. It wasn't even printed yet! While I waited it was printed and came out all askew, upside down and backwards. 😜 So, they did it again and got it right this time. I'm really pleased with the color quality. I had them add a coil binding at the top so each page could be totally flipped. Total cost was $22 and change. They are really rushed off their feet but very kind. 😊

  14. I just got my print job back from Staples. The camera flash left a bit of a glare.  This is my completed calendar from the workshop which is a gift for granddaughter Jackie and her husband, Corey. I'm also including a copy of the book The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith as a companion to the calendar as it inspired me in my research about Botswana. Jackie is a zookeeper and animals from all over the world are her passion. (The apple didn't fall far from the tree; just skipped a generation! 😉 )

  15. I'm just back from picking up my Calendar print job from Staples. I'm very pleased with it. The reproduction is outstanding and the price was under $25.00.It is for Jackie and Corey for Christmas and I'm going to add a paperback copy of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency book by Alexander McCall Smith as that is how I got hooked on Botswana. Here's a photo of the calendar hanging on my wall.
