Corrie - I really like your display in this forum. Where do I find the tutorial on what you did with your picture? I remember seeing it mentioned someplace but I'm not sure where.

 

Did find it. Downloaded it and the 3 Master Classes which deal with working with photos.

Thanks, Corrie. Don't remember which Lab called for crayon rubbing. Right now they are in my folder which I call Lab 9 since that is the lab I am currently working in as I work my way through the labs. Maybe you have a folder called "Elements" or "Flowers and Leaves"? I had to make one when I started in the labs as that is where I store most of my elements called for in the labs. My current problem for storage (so I don't lose what I've done) is: shall I make folders called by a theme? or shall I store elements and papers by color? Not sure how to store them by palette unless I name them by a palette name (which would be closer to theme wouldn't it?). Decisions, decisions, decisions!!!

Susan, thanks for the comments. Yes, the pen tool doesn't work too well with the mouse, but I work better with the mouse than with the tablet (I guess because I don't practice with that tool either). Just keep plugging away, at least we are not on a time schedule with the labs and sometimes I have to go over the old ones again. Also, sometimes, I have to go back to the video tutorials that are posted with the labs (since they are not downloadable). You're doing great with the labs.

And now on to Lab 9 Mod 7: ruled notebook paper, hand drawn alpha (title); abstract pattern paper. The star frame and background paper is from my stash. The kids, globe, clock, buildings, apples and books are from Creative Fabrica - their latest freebie "Back to school clipart graphics. Frankly, the hand drawn alpha I would have done by simply drawing it and then flood filling with the pattern or used a font and filled it with the pattern. As for the abstract pattern, it calls for using the pen tool which is my LEAST favorite tool! but I did it. I'm going to have to practice with that tool as it causes me much grief!

Corrie and Pirkko, really like your take on the Random Challenge. Below is mine. Used the rainbow gradient (with texture) for the background and then lessened the opacity; used the rainbow gradient for the paper underneath the 2 photos. Another chance to use my many colors of crayon rubbing leaves. Also used the rainbow gradient in the title which I inner beveled. Agree with you, Pirkko, the rainbow is a special sign from God and should not be used politically.

Well, it's 1am here in Memphis and I have finally finished Lab 9 Mod 6. For this one, I really enjoyed making the fan and made several of them - this one had an oriental feel (I had made a pattern of a photo I had taken of my friend's oriental rug), so I finally decided to go with an oriental setting. Instead of dragons, I used some swirls I had made months ago from an idea on a sketch. For the lab: multifont sticker - I did not want to use a "fun" font for the sticker so I only used one font - changed it

up with the warp mesh, but did make a sticker out of it; also called for "scribble text". Well, it definitely came out "scribble"! However, mysterious was a good word for it and so it is the mysterious east (I think the word mysterious will work for a Halloween layout sometime). The emerald linking the 2 photos was made with a script from Cassel.

Suzy, that's a great little newsletter. Are you doing it in Publisher?

My daughter and I worked on this layout this afternoon. It was a lot of fun and the gulls are extracted from 2 different pictures.

Moving right along! Lab 9 Mod 5. Things to do: Brick wall (made 2, the spring colored one I used in this LO); Arrow shapes (made 2 and used them to point to the saying); Word sticker (used it for the title); Not sure what font I used for this one to make the word sticker. I'm beginning to learn some things about extracting an image to use as a sticker or ?. Obviously I did on this one with the Raggedy Ann doll.

Co-workers and friends. All my stash. This was a luncheon in 2005. Unfortunately, several of the women have died - but then, this luncheon was 17 years ago.

Susan, I love what you did with your crayon edge. Mine looked like kindergarten work. Yours is dressed up nicely.

Thank you, Michele. And so, this is Lab 9 Module 4. Curlz MT is used in the title again. Things to do: Quatrofoil paper (different than before and I also did papers with the quatrofoil with the square before everything except the outline is deleted; create a yardstick; create a decorated triangle to made an edge for papers, ribbons, etc. All done and the rest of the stuff is mine from a stash created for the things I am learning. The leaves I created in a previous lab - they are crayon rubbings. I used a leaf as was suggested and then created a bunch of them in different colors. The wood burned brad was also created in a previous lab. Fun. And yes, I did visit this afternoon with family on this beautiful 4th of July.

Oh, yes. Thanks to Carole and Sue Thomas, I can now work with a curled ribbon - this really was fun and a good learning experience.

Susan, I just re-read your dragon and the red ball. Pretty neat - how you got the ball red when it's actually cement. Really a neat "trick". I'm going to have to try that somehow on something - I have to think about it, but I want to use it before I forget how you did that!!! LOL

I'm not happy with this one, but I did all the Lab 9 Mod 3 required: watercolor paper, dots in a swirl pattern (made a number of these in various colors), template as a layout for multiple photos or papers or whatever. This was a trip to the Memphis Botanic Garden that my daughter and I took. Great fun. The font is Curlz MT; the rabbit is from PSBT-DBMagnolia, the teacup is from a group of images I got from somewhere as a freebie probably in 2020; the cheshire cat and his smile I got from the brochure we were given at the gardens. I made a large number of watercolor papers in various colors, yellow, pink, blue unfortunately I didn't do one or two in green, but maybe later. No shadows - this is a poster! The layouts in the garden for the different Alice In Wonderland sculptures were made from many flower plants - this is going to be ongoing from May into October - with the heat we have been having, that is going to be quite a job to keep them fresh.

Lab 9 Module 2. Uneven lines (little papers under the picture); ribbon loop (nailed down by a wood-burned disk); plastic pocket (2- one with a passport from NicePng and one with airline tickets from NicePng). The font used is Cataneo BT.

Corrie - Thanks. I guess I'm really just enjoying the labs as it keeps my mind active. I'm retired and do a little work for my Church and visit my kids (and their kids when I get a chance). Enjoyed your trip to the states a short while ago and you sharing some of it with us in your layouts. You do a great job with PSP and I enjoy seeing your work.

Michele - so much fun; love what you do.

Well, I am in Lab 9 and this is mod 1. Cubic pattern (played with it for a while); cutout ribbon (made several of the arrow cutouts); tied string (this gives me the most trouble, but I saved it separate to put on different tags). Title font is Century 125 Blk BT with an inner bevel; font on the tag is Arial Rounded MT Bold (which seems to be my favorite for journaling and titling).

I ran the curled ribbon script and now have a pspimage of the ribbon curled. BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH IT! What do I do next in order to see a curled ribbon on my layout????

In going over the labs I have done, I find that I did not do Lab 6 Mod 4 as I had problems with the lifted flap on an envelope and the silhouette. So -- I decided to do it this time and this is the result. The silhouette is from a picture by Jill Wellington from Freerange Stock. All the other papers and elements are my own except the heart that I put in the mask for my silhouette. The frame around the background is Chinese gold pattern and is inner bevelled. Sorry, don't remember what the font is. The envelope is actually from a site and is probably Pixel Scrapper. The birds holding up the banners are from NicePng.

Lab 8 Mod 12 finished and ready for Lab 9. This one called for: 1. spiral notebook page edge and making the edge of the page as a brush (I did this and applied it to the spiral notebook cover and also applied a spiral binding to the cover - from Cassel's tutorial on how to make a spiral binding picture tube); 2. create a polaroid frame (I did and placed it in the PSP picture frame folder so it could be used with any size photo; 3. phrase strips (I followed the instructions but made the strips as titles for the pictures). The font in the title is AR Herman colorized with hues from the instant effect paintings. The font used in the title strips is Cataneo BT. I had to fix the perspective (with the tool) on my original picture and that is the first time I've used that tool. So cool things learned with this layout. Oh, yeah, since the color replacer tool was discussed a little while ago, I've been playing with it and using it frequently - so another color changing tool in my tool belt. Oh, yeah, also have been removing overhead wires from pictures and removed a number of them from the original picture - with the scratch remover tool.

 

Sue and Lynda, I agree with Corrie - your photos are beautiful. Congratulations on your photos being chosen in the Corel contest.

Finished Lab 8 Mod 11 (almost to Lab 9 - Whee!). Greek Key design pattern - I actually made 2 of them - one I copied from a picture of curtain tiebacks. Create a tag - I did one with a different top this time as directed in the tutorial and cut out a heart at the bottom which I filled in when placing it on the layout with red. A tube of sprinkles! Not particularly my cup of tea, but I did one with various colors so that it could be used with any kind of celebration. I had trouble with reversing the path for "Connor", but I muddled through with the help of tutorials. Anyway - I actually had fun doing this.
