Cristina Posted June 1 Posted June 1 5 hours ago, Cassel said: I have considered converting some of the Picture tubes from the store into brushes for Affinity. I am just annoyed that there are Image brushes and Vector brushes and they have to be created differently AND will have different applications (not all of them can be used the same way as they are in PSP). Yeah, this is a bummer. 5
Sue Thomas Posted June 1 Posted June 1 (edited) Day 6. Thank you ever so much for the link Carole. I can now play with Affinity designer through the trial. For the tag I duplicated it. Erasing the part I didn't need, enabling me to have to 2 tubes on the tag. I was trying to get 2 layers of beads, one without the stroke, and one with a large stroke. I don't how I did it, but this was the result, which I thought was rather nice. Edited June 1 by Sue Thomas 1 12
Cristina Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Day 7 Again, it’s the same logo, but this time I used all the brushes provided by Carole, just as they are, or changed the colors… just for fun. 😊 As Linda, I also created everything in Designer. Carole, I really enjoyed this workshop and, as always, learned a lot from you. Thank you for all the effort you put into creating it. 1 11
gwen jewitt Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Lesson 6 I did the same as Carole for the rectangle shape and I changed the colour of the beads around the letter G and added a paper for the fill. 12
Krystyna Nicholls Posted June 1 Posted June 1 15 hours ago, Jeni Simpson said: what I have done, Krystyna, is I created a 600x600 preset with transparent background and hit the + sign, down bottom left of the new file dialogue box, which created a new file to use each time. I also have a 12x12 file. Thank you Jeni, that's really useful to know. I will give it a try. Kx 7
Krystyna Nicholls Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Lesson 5: Text in a Circle and Text on a path. Must admit I'm finding Affinity a bit odd. Whereas you could insert a picture from one layer into another separate layer when working on two things and then bring them together, it doesn't always resize well. I get a square box with x on each corner instead of the o. and it just seems a lot of faffing about to save as a jpeg and then bring the item into place. Also the resizing: there is no scale or perspective button - Im really new to Affinity so I probably need real back to basic training session. Anyway here is my take on this exercise... 2 12
Krystyna Nicholls Posted June 1 Posted June 1 (edited) Lesson 6: Chain link around a letter and the banner. Must say I did have problem with the letter, the chain when applied was huge 96pt! I had to keep resizing it. It went awry but I kept at it. Here are my attempts... Now the letter is shown here, I can see I still need to practice closing the gaps. MoniqueN. Posted June 1 Posted June 1 (edited) Lesson 7 I didn't save the first project that was in the video. This is the 2nd from the video. I explored the different brushes and found the "stippling light" in the patterns brushes funny, so I used that for the right part of the initial. 🙂 Edited June 1 by MoniqueN. I typed left but was the right side ;) 13
Krystyna Nicholls Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Lesson 7: Partial path elements the bracelet and my initial K. I used an emboss with the special effects on the K. 10

May I make a suggestion? The brush you used is a little on the wide side. If you narrow it to match the width of the beads it will blend better with the beads, making them look as one. 6
Gerry Landreth Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Day 7. It has been interesting to see the differences in the programs while achieving the same or similar results. @Cassel Thank you for explaining the brushes. I understood it, but a more in-depth discussion in a Q&A session would be great. I didn't realize there were different types of brushes, image vs. vector. I look forward to learning more. THANKS! 2 10
Corrie Kinkel Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Day 7 For this last day I managed to make a simple layout as well. I used the cloud shape with the silver bead on the bottom which gave me the idea to use a photo with some clouds. Text around that cloud shape is way too difficult to read therefore I draw a circle and put my text there. I cut my C in two and one part has recolored beads and a fitting color for the stroke and my K has 4 colors in the beads. I was tempted to use the spiral shape for that but because I have done so, I think 2 times in the PSP Vector workshop, I went with the cloud shape. Making the cuts in Affinity is so simple and for me that is great, no problem with my hands! Thank you Carole for a very interesting Affinity Vector Workshop and a thank you to everybody for the lovely, divers and inspiring contributions! 13
gwen jewitt Posted June 1 Posted June 1 (edited) Lesson 7 Thank you Carole for another great workshop in Vectors using Affinity everyone has had some amazing results, it's all a learning curve no matter if you are a novice or experienced . Here are my efforts for lesson 7, the letter B on the inside has a photo of my begonia from my hanging baskets which I have just hung up outside. The last one is me playing around with the pencil tool in desinger and making this flower, I added a gradient to it and an elipse in the middle which I bevelled. Thought I would add this one to my post I had been working on it earlier and forgot to add it, unfortunately when I added my shadow I didn't notice that it showed up the line underneath the beads until I posted it dah😁 Edited June 2 by gwen jewitt 11
Jeni Simpson Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Day 6 This was rather fun. I created the banner first, and added a cat tubed by Castorke. thatI would have liked to work out how to tube the cat's ears so they would be in front of the banner, I will need to do some research for that. Then, I snaged another cat by Castorke and added the black cat to the letter J. The wee soul had whiskers reaching to the right-hand side of him, although they don't show here, unfortunately. 1 9
Raymond Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Lesson 6 I don't have Affinity Designer so I really can't do lessons 6 or 7, but I did cut the path and added some emojis (WIN + . ) (Windows key plus the period key) as text instead. 1 1 8

Like yourself, I get to play with designer through the trial period. I sincerely hope that it comes on sale at some point in time. Using the cutting tool in designer is by far less picky than in PSP 6
Sue Thomas Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Well done each and everyone of you. It has been a joy to scroll through each day, in awe, at such inspiring and unique creativity. 5 2
Cindy Sheets Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Lesson 4 Okay, I created a tag instead of a mug because it is something I will be using this holiday season when I have my silhouette up and running. 2 8
AprilDawn Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Carole you asked in your comment about my painted rose whether it on canvas or digital painted .. I hand painted it on a small canvas with acrylic paints and then scanned it into my computer so i could use them on my printed cards etc. I intend to have a go at it digitally in the Free Krita Painting Software some time in the future... hopefully i will succeed doing it that way as i don't do it the traditionial way anymore. Day 7 Last Day of the workshop for vectors..... I am going to keep practising on all that i have learnt. 11
AprilDawn Posted June 2 Posted June 2 I also want to say how much i have enjoyed viewing everyone's postings during this workshop. the creativity shown is very inspiring for me as i learn how to do vectors Best wishes to everyone, Dawn 6 3
Linda Rexford Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Day 7, this has been fun. Everyone has done amazing things this week! This one was also all done in Designer. The owl and flower are mine. 10
Jeni Simpson Posted June 2 Posted June 2 (edited) Finally, Day 7 Carole, this workshop has been enlightening. Thank you. I was terrified of vectors when I first attended the PSP workshop last year. Now, they are not so scary. I think Affinity has helped me in this respect. The tube used in the bracelet is by Elly, and the butterfly in the J is from Marisa Lerin's Fieldnotes No. 4 kit.
