Susan Ewart Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Lesson 3 I have always wanted to accomplish the maple leaf in the downloaded supplies. This time around I think I did better. The other two I found at freepik I believe and thought they looked interesting. I did export them all. I wonder why I forget all about making shapes and exporting them after the workshop is over. I added a very small outline so they'd stand out better. 12

Cassel Posted May 22 Author Posted May 22 @Jannette Nieuwboer Hopefully you are ok to continue now. For those who might wonder, we did some troubleshooting through email so as not to overload this thread. @Jacques That is great. I think you are a little ahead with the holes in the shape, but that is a great exercise. Was the first try with white fill or just showing the outline only? Don't worry if you have just the outline when you save it, when you use it, you can always use any fill you want. @Sue ThomasI see so many great tags that you are creating. You will never run out of ideas for tags at this rate! @gwen jewittWhat version of PSP are you using? Starting with version 2018, there is a way to get larger nodes. Check this article. @Gerry LandrethYou should be able to catch up even if you have to slow down for storms. The lessons are short so it should be easy. You are starting well with those shapes. @Susan EwartYes, those shapes with multiple components can look odd when they show an outline. That is one thing that PSP does not do: merge shapes into a single one (something Affinity does much better). That maple leaf is really great! And it looks like you had fun with other shapes too! @Donna SilliaYou did what you had to do. Creating a preset is a skill in itself. Handling those nodes need practice. After that, it is up to you how you will use it, and since they are vector, you can always tweak them too. @Mary Solaas Take good care of yourself. That heart shape can also become a frame for other bleeding heart photos! Now, calling for all the silent registrants. Don't be shy! And if you are stuck, don't hesitate to ask questions. We are all here to help you. 5

Carole everything is as large as I can possibly get it, hopefully things will improve when I get my cataracts removed . Edited May 22 by gwen jewitt 8 2
gwen jewitt Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Day 3 I found this one easier to do having a shape to draw around and tweak the nodes. 3 9

I agree Gwen, I use '23 and i do an outline around my image and a larger node. I can remove afterwards. Easier working. Edited May 22 by Jannette Nieuwboer 7

Jannette Nieuwboer Posted May 22 Posted May 22 (edited) this are my first 4 from lesson 2-1 the first one is how I made. helping lines to reach an egale scenery. Arrows are quite simple when you know how to act. 🤩 I did not file them properly, my mistake. I don't know how to remove the mistakes from the shapes. Edited May 22 by Jannette Nieuwboer 5 6
Sue Thomas Posted May 22 Posted May 22 (edited) Day 4. A mug of milky hot chocolate. I also rounded the outer top edges a tad to make it look a little more realistic. Looking at it now, I should have rounded the bottom, but I copied it as it is in the jpeg. Edited May 22 by Sue Thomas 4 8
Donna Sillia Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Day 4 - I tried to make a saucer under the cup, but I'm not happy with how it looks. I think I need to work on the saucer more now that I see it posted. The pattern is from FF, and the cup and saucer are from Adobe Express. 4 8
Jacques Posted May 22 Posted May 22 @Cassel I just figured out something about the hole exercise (lesson 4). If I trace a hole in the same direction as the main object (e.g. both clockwise), I have to do the "R" (from the acronym C-R-A-C) but if I create a hole in the opposite direction, I don't have to do the "R" (Main clockwise, hole counterclockwise). Is that right? Why do I have to rotate in the opposite direction for this to work? 3 1
Gerry Landreth Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Day 3 - I used this exercise to practice extractions instead of making preset shapes. Each leaf was a separate layer, and I extracted it using SELECTION/FROM VECTOR OBJECT. Of course, as AI tools improve, precise extractions will soon be a lost art. Still, it was good practice. 4 1 9
Louyse Toupin Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Hello, here is my Lesson 1 it takes a long time to learn all about those nodes.😀 4 11
Jacques Posted May 22 Posted May 22 A test I did. The arrows indicate the direction of the path creation: 3 1 9
Sharon Murray Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Day 2 - behind as usual! @Cassel I did my three shapes and named them as you did in the layers palette as "Label03 - Label05." When I exported them, I named the file as "Shazza Labels" but they show up in my preset shapes as Label03-Label05" rather than Shazza Label03..." I noticed this in the first lesson, I had to go back and rename as Shazza Label01 in the layers palette. 🤔 1 12
Sharon Murray Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Day 3 - Still needs some work but I'm pretty pleased with how these turned out. Everyone is doing such a fantastic job! 1 11
Sharon Murray Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Day 4 - Can't believe I finally caught up 🙂 I also can't believe that I'm actually having fun with vectors! 😲 11
Cassel Posted May 23 Author Posted May 23 @gwen jewitt Oh, I guess the cataracts can definitely affect the vision. I am glad that you feel it is easier with a shape to copy. That cup would look great on a greeting card! @Jannette Nieuwboer What mistake do you want to remove? The naming of the shapes or something on the shapes themselves. @Sue ThomasVectors are getting easier and you can always curve the bottom of the mug later! @Donna SilliaThe cup is fine. I think it is just the bevel that gives it an odd look since that is not how the shading would normally go on a cup. But the exercise was to draw it, and that is correct. @Jacques Drawing a shape in the other direction does exactly what the R should do, which is to reverse the path. Since we typically draw clockwise and the preset shapes also are drawn clockwise, in that case you would need to manually reverse the path. But if you purposefully draw in the other direction, you can save that one step. I am not sure exactly why the path has to be reversed to make it into a whole. It must be a way that paths are interpreted internally. @Gerry Landreth That is a great way to use vectors. It can create some nice edges once you use the Selection from Vector. @Louyse ToupinIt is a lot to learn but once you get comfortable, it will become easier and easier. @Sharon MurrayThe shapes will appear in the drop-down list based on the name of the shapes in the Layers palette, but when you enter the name during the export, it will be the name of the FILE, so what you see is what is expected. If you wanted the shapes to have Shazza, you would have to rename them in the vector layer before exporting them. You are doing great with all those shapes. 3 1

So following your words I went back and didn't Reverse the Path and it worked! thank you so much. I couldn't understand why I got it cut out on the Tea Pot right away, but not the tea cup. I fought with this for over an hour. 5 1
Susan Ewart Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Lesson 4 I had some troubles with this one, as I usually do. Thanks to Jacques comment on the direction I was able to finish the tea cup, this time without reversing the path. I had tried for an hour. Couldnt understand why the tea pot went off without a hitch. I guess I lucked out and had done the path the same way on the tea pot (it's the one I did first and got all confident that I could do it), then came the tea cup where I went a different direction for the handle interior. I'm so happy to have learned that. 1 11
Jannette Nieuwboer Posted May 23 Posted May 23 1 hour ago, Cassel said: What mistake do you want to remove? The naming of the shapes or something on the shapes themselves. @Cassel I guess the names, The items came separately in de window with the original names. The items came seperately in the window, not joined together. Now the function is not available for other images. I can't use it for other projects. 4
Jeni Simpson Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Day 3 This one took me a while, until I went back to the video to work out where I was going wrong. It was the closing of the selected open contours I was missing. Now to get onto Day 4. 12
gwen jewitt Posted May 23 Posted May 23 @Susan Ewart I love the shape of your tea cup Susan and a great job on the tea pot. 5 1
Carolyn Rye Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Lesson 4 using PSP. I did not realize how much I had forgotten since the past workshop. I would have liked to have a lot more time in my life to do this workshop. Too many Doctor's appointments. I know that is not an excuse, but it had made me less time. I decided to add a photo of my fur baby on the cup. I have so much more to learn but at least it makes me feel like I have achieved something. 1 9
