Alphabet Photo Challenge - A

The idea of one photo a week was quite popular in 2024, and it encouraged participants to take photos and showcase them without having to create a whole layout for them.

In 2025, I will offer you a little twist on this. Again, the idea is only to showcase a single photo at a time. You can showcase them as a flashcard, emphasizing the letter (you can use these free cards as a basis to create your own). Of course, if you want a different format, you can use a polaroid frame, a slide, or a playing card (like Susan was doing in 2024). Choose the format you want, and keep it throughout the year. But just make sure to emphasize the first letter!

Every 2 weeks, you will be asked to take a picture of something, at home (or around your home) that starts with a specific letter of the alphabet. The goal is just to be on the lookout for ANYTHING that can be photographed. You can stage the object however you want, or just take a picture of it in its natural environment. For example, you can showcase your favorite Mug, or your Pillow, or your Fireplace.

You can practice your photography skills if you want, but you can just capture things as they are.

Let's just encourage each other.

This is a no-pressure thread.

And if you skip a letter or two, you can always come back. You know your alphabet so you can easily catch up, whenever you need to.

Let's start with the letter A. It could be an apple, your alarm clock, some artwork, your favorite apron, a comfy armchair, an aquarium, etc.

That's probably why Carole said we could "stage" our possessions, like a magazine photographer. 😁

Find one area, clear it out, take the picture and nobody will know! Or bring your object outside! 😉

In total, there will only be 26 pictures so if you have only 26 objects, that is not cluttered!

I will certainly join in because I already am missing P52 and looking for an opportunity to shoot my weekly photo. I loved that challenge and I loved the Alphabet challenge from a couple of years ago. This is a perfect blend of those two! And I like that it has a 2 weeks in between, which leaves some time for other things that undoubtably will happen. The only thing I have to decide now is which language I'm going to use, or maybe mix them up depending on the letter.

Yup it will if you side light it!  and if it's chunky enough or your slide your finger through it so there is clean and dust contrast.  That's a good project for you.

I'm in, this sounds quite fun.  Got my A item picked out too.  Now to decide on flashcard, polaroid or slide...I'm leaning towards a slide since I used to shoot slides way back in the day.

I knew the expert photog would know the answer to that! I think I'll simply get out the dust rag and clean it. Seems easier.

So enjoy this "chit, chat". Laughter is the best medicine! It's also a great way to start the day. You may have gotten me enlivened enough to join this one.  But ....... will I keep at it and actually finish it??????

Mary, considering your grit and determination to finish the Labs, and to document your trips, I'm sure this will be a breeze! ☺️

 In response to all the dust questions. Yes you can photograph dust.  I am not a great housekeeper, but my whole house isn't this bad. This if from a back room that doesn't get cleaned often.  Also I have the windows open when it is warm with a window fan pulling air (and dust) in all summer and fall.

After reading the prompts and considering my options I decided to go with a flashcard for all 26 letters. I looked at the freebies that Carole mentioned and some others as well and made my own PSP-image that I can fill in with the photo of the letter. I liked the thin colored border in the freebies so I can now change that color to one that fits my next photo. I think a flashcard is somewhat thicker than a polaroid, so I gave it a texture and a slight bevel on the outside. The choice of the letter A was somewhat of a gift because we have an Amaryllis in bloom at the moment, we always have them around X-mas time and I was fancy with the photo settings to get this result. Staging is allowed isn't it 😉. The nice thing is that the choice for the language for this project is postponed because the writing of the word amaryllis is the same in English and Dutch; still a dilemma to solve.

Great photo of this beautiful flower.  My suggestion   to your language choice is to go with your own language and just include the English word in your explanation. Since we have to think of something with a certain letter and you "think" in Dutch, it would add a extra problem to deciding on an object.  Besides that way the rest of us would learn another Dutch word.
