  1. Just tried experimenting with the cass-preset shapes-vases. Actually figuring out how to set up the Materials Palette so I get what I want with a vector. It finally sank in that Vectors are really very similar to the Text Tool!  Here are my 5 vase shapes:

  2. Q = Quail - small bird, found wild or farmed. Great on a grill and featured in Texas. The ones pictured are sold mostly boneless because the birds are so small the bones are difficult to eat around.

When I was a kid, the local Rotary Club held a huge pit barbecue every year for many years on the farm of a large local cattle rancher. The meat was amazing and people came from miles around to get in line! I enjoyed it then, but don't eat it now.

Julie, our Rotary Club held a luau a few years ago and I documented it.

Back in the Labs until the Vector Workshop - I"m really looking forward to that!

This is Lab 11 Mod 1.  Requirements: Books on a shelf; pencil shavings (I made mine into a picture tube because I couldn't decide what to do with pencil shavings except put thin in the wastebasket!!! Circle Doodle - this was fun and I made several and think I might play with that again.  One I put under the Cass folded flower and one I put under the Raggedy Ann Doll.  The font is one of my favorites, Ballpark from CF.

Interesting, Donna. The circle doodles remind me of doilies, but a modern version.

Ann I will post the large version on FB right now and see if I can messenge it to you directly too.  And going forward you have my permission to post anything of mine on your feed.  And I can send the you the full sized one as well.  I did have to use the AI ro resize this image as with a lot of FB images, it was very small.

Thanks! I got it via Messenger.

B = Birthday. Today is my birthday and we’re grilling out. I would add a pic, but I’m all comfy. I got nail polish that dries in one minute from my daughter, and I can’t wait to see if it works!

Happy Birthday, Suzy! (heart from kit: PS-May 16 Marisa Lerin)

My Newsletter was published in June

Wow, Suzy, I didn't know how ignorant I was of daffodils until I read your newsletter. They are a welcome sight in the Spring but are quickly overpowered by subsequent flowers demanding attention. On our property in Warwick, NY, I watched for the sharp, yellow flowering of the forsythia to announce that Spring is Here! Yellow is the color of Spring! Very interesting newsletter, even for me who is not a daffodil enthusiast. I may have to work on that... ?

    Lab 6-11

    • Rainbow Striped Paper  (The border, with mitered corners - dont look too close, I missed on two corners)
    • Diamond Shape Paper (the blue one)
    • Spider Web (on the tissue paper)

I'm looking forward to the vector workshop.  it took me some time to get the  spider web happening.  Once I was following the tutorial properly I got it done.  I couldnt fit it in well to the layout so I put it on the tissue paper (remember the decorated toilet paper of the 70-80's).  The diamond paper; I was trying out different percentage (for size) and forgot to hide a layer and it made the cross lines appear.  I liked the look.  I also textured it with Effects>Texture Effects>Texture.  And used the magic wand to select the diamonds and inner beveled them to give more dimension to the sparse (read: boring) layout.  The spiders camer from Creative Fabrica.  The photo with the quote was from Facebook and I thought it was funny.  I really liked the Rainbow Striped Paper tutorial, although it is hard on the eyes.

Susan, good job with the Lab and this is hilarious! The spiders add just the right touch, especially the "wilted" one at the bottom! ? With your permission, I'd like to post this on my own Facebook feed. My friends would find it hilarious, also.

  9. Here's a project I've been working on the last few days as a remembrance of a friend that passed away last week from a malignant brain tumor at the age of 43. He and I are part of this rather large Facebook group that were fans of pop culture and started with Game of Thrones. We're all devastated at the loss of Ray. We knew he was not in the best of shape, suffering total blindness, but the end came quicker than we anticipated. We had been recording book readings for him as a way to stay in touch. I gathered all the photos my friends were sharing on their individual posts for his friends and family (we call it our Fandom Family). I used the cass-hanging photos script because I had 12 photos to showcase. The background is from a photo of a chalk drawing one of our group did at a convention in Europe. I had two photos of Ray, alone, and tried out the new Corel engraving-brown script on them. After trying the saturation layer effect I was quite impressed. I'll let you see the originals, also. I spoke to Ray on the phone a few years ago, before he got ill, as he was looking into moving to my area. R.I.P. Ray Fiore, you'll be sorely missed. ?

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the font is Cabin Sketch.

  10. The first thing I like to post is my new Wild Cat calendar for the month. It features the Snow Leopard, the gentle giant of Central Asia. These calendar templates are very large, measuring 4200 x 3245 px. I've been using PSPs print function and get nice 11x8.5" prints on my desktop Epson. I have put a full size jpg in the Files section of our Facebook group: Scrapbooking with PaintShop Pro. The leopard photos are from Unsplash.

Here's a copy of the journaling which is rather small in this version:

Known throughout the world for its beautiful fur and elusive behavior, the endangered snow leopard (Panthera uncia) is found in the rugged mountains of Central Asia. The gentle snow leopard is not known to be aggressive toward humans. They are perfectly adapted to the cold, barren landscape of their high-altitude home, but human threats have created an uncertain future for the cats. Despite a range of over 1.2 million miles, scientist estimate that there may only be between 4,000 and 7,000 snow leopards left in the wild.

EDIT: Unhappy with the background and lower image, I made some changes.

Yikes! Backwards uphill.  How long of a road was it?  If must've been exciting for you...maybe not so for your parents. I love those old cars.

I'm not sure. I was quite young at the time. Here's the data about Lake Minnewaska if you're interested. It's quite spectacular.

  12. Well, guess what? I have one more QP for the Day 8 assignment. I downloaded a few from Digital Scrapbook and this one is from Marisa Lerin called QP-Slovenia03.

I decided to combine this with the Random Challenge to tell a personal story. The title font is Corlita Sans; the journaling is in Droid Serif. Behind the text I brushed some dark blue with a brush called cass-Dispersion2.

    The journaling is a bit small so I'll repeat it here;

    Quote

FACTS: The Model-A Ford (1927-1931) was the first Ford to use the standard set of driver controls with conventional clutch and brake pedals, throttle, and gearshift. The Model A's fuel tank was situated in the cowl, between the engine compartment's fire wall and the dash panel. It had a visual fuel gauge, and the fuel flowed to the carburetor by gravity.

OUR STORY: When I was young, our family of 3 traveled from Bergen County, NJ,  to Ulster County, NY,  for day-trips. Lake Minnewaska was a spectacular setting to visit. Situated up high, the access road was very steep and our Model-A Ford could only navigate it BACKWARDS because of the gravity gas feed.
