I wish I knew how to join the two colored layers into the same shape but keep the two different colors. Is it even possible? For the spikes I did them on a new layer since I wanted them a different color. I had to bring them in after the dinosaur shape, then I duplicated and tried to manipulate them around the tail. Bad job but I got tired to playing around with it. I couldn't figure out how to use the eraser tool like I wanted! It's not easy just to grab it and erase. I've still got a lot to learn in Affinity! Don't even get me started on the toes - they saved as individual assets too ugh! After I realized I had saved my dinosaur with the outline, I was too frustrated to go back and resave it without after noticing I'd have to bring in each of the toes and everything else in again. Everyone is doing such an amazing job, I am also too embarrassed to even post mine! If you have more than 1 layer, like the toes, when you are done, highlight all the layers for the dinosaur and group them. Then put the group in your assets and it will all be together. You will still be able to change colors, etc when you want to use it again. I hope that makes sense. I also love that you found the cat shape!! 4 2
Cassel Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 @Linda RexfordThe gradient you used gives a great 3D effect to your cup. That cat looks grumpy. Is he/she? @AprilDawnYou do what you can with the time you have. And you can always practice later as time allows. @Carolyn RyeDid you convert the nodes to smooth? That would make them into curves. For the issue with your B, it might be a setting in your Brush. @Sue ThomasWith that sign, you will get many customers! @MoniqueN.They question about grey text in the Layers panel has nothing to do with being active or not. Any "default" name (like "pixel") that Affinity gives to a layer, will be grey. If it is a name of an element you "Placed", or renamed, it will be black. There are more details to that, but that tells you all the layers are still "active". And yes, the plan is to have the Bootcamp again in September. For cutting the circle, you will learn that on Day 7. But you can also rasterize the vector and erase with the Eraser tool or the Selection tool. @Cristina I also LOVE those Geometry tools! As for the colors, you are correct: if you want to keep the "inside" outline, you have to keep those segments separate. @Jeni SimpsonGreat cup and fun quote! @Euka Great result, even with one "missing duplicate". @JacquesWonderful result. The top photo made me smile 🙂 @Corrie KinkelFantastic! I am amazed that you manage to make a whole page for each lesson (almost). @Sharon MurrayTo answer your question, you cannot have ONE shape with TWO colors. Each color is "enclosed" inside of a path. Even if you were to try to Add two shapes of different colors, you will see they will turn to one color. I see you found the "cat tool" 🙂 @Gerry LandrethGreat assignments. Everything is so well thought out. @RaymondGreat shape. You are getting the hang of it. @gwen jewittVery creative use of the shapes to get your text along that edge. I am very impressed by how creatively you are displaying your assignments. It is very inspiring. If you had fun until now, wait until tomorrow!!! 1 5

Wow I'm impressed! Again I used some photos from my trip. No I have posted here, I notice that the color of the text around the flowers makes it difficult to read. I may be inclined to use white, or white with a hint of pink or possibly the colour of the frames on the text around the flowers. Lovely layout, everyone has excelled themselves with their creativity in this workshop, in showcasing what they have learnt. Edited May 31 by Sue Thomas 5 1

Cristina Posted May 31 Posted May 31 (edited) Day 5 This technique is more user-friendly to do in Affinity. The word "Success" could have had a smoother path, but I was practicing the technique to press the ALT key to change the direction of the next node, and I didn’t want to redo it. Some time ago, I created a logo based on a video from Affinity Revolution. This logo is inspired by that tutorial. AI illustration from Pixabay Edited May 31 by Cristina 10
Carolyn Rye Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Lesson 5 Affinity. This was very different to PSP. Some parts better with Affinity, some maybe PSP better. Anyway, it doesn't matter because it is all learning. I did have a bit of fun doing the image below 1 10

AprilDawn Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Day 5... The Folk Art Rose i painted many years ago at the beginning of my painting journey and I will use this result with the text along path and the circles on a card I intend to make. Everyone is doing great creative work and a pleasure to view. best wishes to all, 10

You are not short of great photos from your trip, Corrie. It must be impressive to see this in front of you. "Now I have posted here, I notice that the color of the text around the flowers makes it difficult to read." This happens often to me. I could look at a page while working without noticing, but whenever I post here, the issue is screaming at me. That's why I usually tweak the layouts after posting. 2 1 2

Cristina Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Day 6 Affinity doesn’t have Picture Tubes, but the brushes Carole has created are great! Dawn posted some examples of using the Shape Tool for Lesson 2, including the Spiral Tool. So, I used the Spiral Tool to place the cass-GoldRope brush. For the letter “S”, I placed cass-SeedBeads3-GoldB. 9
Sue Thomas Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Seeing as I don't have Affinity Designer, I am unable to participate in the last two days. Instead, I improvised by playing around with the eraser tool, which I accidently discovered, and the break curve tool, demonstrated in day 7. 1 7
Sue Thomas Posted May 31 Posted May 31 (edited) For this layout I used a rather large stroke, which was intentional, in order for me to add the text. Using 3 stroked cirlces, I used the break curve tool. When I parted the break I was left with these lovely rounded edges, which I really wasn't expecting. As I was expecting clean breaks. Oh well a lesson for another day. Meanwhile I had fun experimenting with these 2 tools today. Edited May 31 by Sue Thomas 1 10
