I d/l an autumn background and the tree from CF and made it like a painting. The curved leave doesn't fit the tree, but hey, who cares, it's the practice that matters. After "curving I copied the leave several times, gave them other colours and added to the background. Fun lesson! And much easier than PSP 🙂 Very nice and it is very noticeable that everybody comments on how easy it is to use the pentool and the nodes in Affinity! 5 1
AprilDawn Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Here is my Day 3 . it is really my first attempt at using pen tool or doing any real sort of vectors. I could not do them in PSP but i am finding it a bit easier in Affinity. Thank you Carole for your great instructions .. I know i will need to do a lot of practise. have also enjoyed looking at everyones creativity for this workshop and well done to all. best wishes, Dawn. 10

I started it yesterday and was having problems doing it exactly the way he showed. But today, with a fresh mind, I managed to finish it. The beginning of anything is hard; we just have to keep trying and not give up. 5 1
Cassel Posted May 29 Author Posted May 29 I am not sure where my comment went, when I posted it last night. I am glad that it was still "cached" and I didn't have to re-write it! @Linda Rexford Oh, I like how you are playing with those shapes. Playing means practice and practice means learning. @Carolyn RyeI agree with you that some shapes are fun and easier to create in Affinity but managing them (preset shapes vs assets, categories and subcategories) are not straightforward. That is one thing I really dislike about Affinity: asset management is very limited. @Jeni Simpsonso many fun shapes. Those stars are lovely. @AprilDawnI love to see how you used the spiral shape. That is one shape I have not played with yet. 2 4
Cassel Posted May 29 Author Posted May 29 I received messages to report issues with Lesson 4. It is fixed, and you should now be able to watch the Affinity video. 2 2
Euka Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I had a quick scroll through the forum and am amazed at the wonderful creations being presented - a real pleasure to view and very inspiring! With very little spare time recently I was able to have a play tonight and tackle the vectors. I was dreading it a little as I do not do well with PSP vectors - therefore, I was pleasantly suprised and managed to create something from each day. Nothing fancy and still need more practice (lots more!) but with Affinity it certainly is much easier handling vectors. With a Style shadow it is also very easy and quick to apply to all layers. 13
MoniqueN. Posted May 29 Posted May 29 (edited) Lesson 4 I forgot to save my curves......but this is the end result 🙂 Background and mouse are from CF 🙂 Edited May 30 by MoniqueN. Forgot to credit CF 12

Corrie Kinkel Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Day 4 Making the cutout is very easy, which I love! However it is still a lot of work with the pentool and the nodes! I always have the problem that my hands aren't stable enough; a couple of elements are ok but in the end I have to stop after 15 minutes and wait an hour before I can go on. But I managed to get something done! The dino could be better but I didn't want to do him/her again, at least not today. 12

I love that you stacked your tea cups, and you did more than one handle shape, you are having fun, aren't you, Corrie! the coffee cup and the dino look great as well. Then, did you add a grunge effect along the edges? You're becoming an Affinity wizard! 4 1
gwen jewitt Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Lesson 4 teacup with cutout , I have kept the stroke visible and added a pattern layer for the fill and a coloured ellipse at the top with the bottom of the cup to match it. the one underneath is the original tea cup. 1 11
Sharon Murray Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Day 3 - I really love how easy it is to manipulate the nodes!! 🙂 The glass and straw are on separate layers - I could not figure out how to join them as one shape (I had already traced the glass first, then did the straw by itself) 12
Cassel Posted May 30 Author Posted May 30 @CristinaToo bad that the trip is postponed but it is positive that you now have more time for the Workshop. That parrot is great. With so many segments, it meant a lot of practice for you. Maybe your program got a hiccup when it misbehaved. @MoniqueN.You don't need a full scrapbook page to display your assignment nicely. You did great. @AprilDawnYou are starting very well with those leaves. They look great. @JacquesGreat leaves! Don't you find that cutting out holes is easier in Affinity? @EukaGreat way to catch up with all those shapes. @RaymondGood start. You should catch up quickly. @Corrie KinkelYou are managing very well despite your hand issues. Isn't it nice to have the option to undo if something is not working correctly? @gwen jewittVery nice looking cup. That design is very appropriate! @Sharon MurrayGreat design. I agree that nodes are easy to handle in Affinity. @Gerry Landreth That is a cute dinosaur. Will you find a way to use it? You will have fun with text tomorrow! Stay tuned. 2 2

Carolyn Rye Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Lesson 4 Affinity. Not the best attempt but I was having trouble trying to get the rounded bits right. I don't know why because I did do it previously and it worked out great but for some reason, I deleted my attempt 😏. I am sure that I will get better at it with practice . 9
Carolyn Rye Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Lesson 6 Affinity. I did the first example ok except that I did not notice the jap on the upper right bit. I know how to fix that now. My problem now is, why do I keep getting the extra gold bit on the inside of the letter B? I have redone that section over and over and each time it done the same thing. I then tried it with another Letter, and it appears ok. Do not know when the problem was. 8
Sue Thomas Posted May 30 Posted May 30 (edited) Day 4. A bit late, as I was out all day yesterday. To showcase the teapot, I went with a sign board, to advertise the shop. Edited May 30 by Sue Thomas 10
