December 2024 - P52 Challenge

Do you want to challenge yourself to take photos every week for a year?

Maybe you want to practice your photography skills, or just try to capture "ordinary" daily occurrences.

Let's just encourage each other.

This is a no-pressure thread, and you can share the photos you took or the theme you are going for (if you are going with a theme).

And if you don't want to share the photos yet, and only showcase them once they are in a montage or a scrapbook page, you can just say that you did it.

And it is ok to start your 52 weeks at any time. It does not have to start in January!

Here is Week 47 - Dated Dec. 1 - That Frosty Time of Year. The font is Showcard Gothic with a stroke.

Week 49

It took me some time to pull this together.  Nothing was working until I used a large floral graphic which look awfully busy as a background.  Then I played with the blend modes and ended up with the outline of the florals and then I got the idea of making it a painted wall mural you see on the sides of buildings.  using one of the brick textures in PSP I learned that depth matters.  When I applied the same size texture and depth to the card and sticker it was very dark and you couldnt make out the subject very well.  I used less depth and it whiten up the card again and still reads as normal.  I visualized what it would look like if it was painted and walls I have seen, so I felt it was important to keep the texture in the white, but not lose the "white-ness" of the white.  

5 more to go...for me.  Since I made my P52 based on a deck of cards I'm actually doing P54 (for 2 jokers).  Wouldn't be nice if it was that easy to get an extra two weeks out of the year.  Oh the things I could get done...like delving into the paper workshop that I'm behind on already!

Week 49 The photo is of some strawberry plants I have in a planter that lives outside. I’m always amazed at how hardy the plants are. I always overwinter some cuttings in my tiny greenhouse just in case the weather does its worst but, so far, they have survived everything which means each year I land up with even more strawberry plants! At this time of the year the leaves are a variety of colours through green, yellow and brown.

Today I started to decorate and opened the boxes with all the decorations. I always put all the smaller things on the dinner table to have a look what I want to use and see if anything is broken. The next thing is to remove my normal deco and dust the cabinets on with my garlands etc are coming. When I had them all opened I missed a big garland and I must be getting old because at first I couldn't even remember that last year we discarded it because it was so very tatty and the lights didn't worked any longer too. But here there is a small part displayed on the table and luckily nothing was broken.

The weather is still miserable here and I think I haven't seen the sun in 10 days or so. We call this period the dark days before Christmas and this year it really is appropriate. Outside it is gloomy and often wet as well and I haven't found anything to take a photo of. I would have liked to go to our local woodland park to see if there was anything worthwhile, but since we haven't a car any longer I have to go by bike and that wasn't appealing at all. We have a tall vase standing in a dark corner of our living; normally with a nice colorful artificial bouquet of flowers and greenery. At this time of the year I put small electric lights in it with some silvery leaves, not really a Xmas decoration but I'll leave it there until the days are lengthening. Without anything else to take photos I experimented with it and this is the result I like best. But hopefully next week I can go to our market square when it is almost dark to see the decorations and lights.

Ladies thank you so much, it means a lot to me when you all like my experiment. It shows me that my new iPhone 16pro with the new camera settings in iOS18 has been a good purchase, albeit an expensive one but I traded my iPhone 14pro in which made it a sound one.

I do suspect they are telling you what you can take a picture of and kiss too.I bet they even gave those tail feathers a little shake too.  LOL

Week 51 The little town where I live goes in for quite a lot of Christmas decorations which is lovely and helps cheer up the short days of December. A new addition this year was this reindeer in the florist’s shop window. It made me smile when I first saw it – just because it’s so cute. Having taken the photo I had to laugh when I noticed the way the phone number is positioned – perhaps it’s a hot line in case anyone recognises a reindeer who slid of a roof, banged its head, and can’t remember who it is…

What a beautiful shop.  and I want that reindeer.  Now, that's window display to be proud of.  I had a laugh at the phone number.

Well it would be most welcome in my house too! I love the shop windows in the UK, they are much more elaborate and festive then the ones we tend to have!
