July 2022 - RANDOM Challenge

Here is a challenge to do something that might not be repeated in other months. Just an idea that popped like that (and you can also send me suggestions for occasional random challenges too).

 

This week, I want colors. I want you to create a project where various ELEMENTS will create a rainbow effect. You can have tons of buttons creating a rainbow sequence. You can use bits of ribbons. You can use scatters. You can use bits of papers. You can use brush strokes. Here are some examples.

 

 

 

 

How will you display all the colors of the rainbow with a series of individual elements/papers?

I have been looking into a couple of masterclasses about PhotoGrafics because I was intriged by the blogpost about those effects mentioned in the Campus newsletter of last week. I made a watercolor/sketch from one of my photos of Rotterdam and used it on the layout for this random challenge. I placed it on a blackboard which has a small metal frame and a couple of smudges (also explained in the masterclass). The brads from my stash are suppost to be magnets to hold the drawing in place, assuming the board is magnatic too. The letters and numbers, the freebie from the store this weekend,  are in the rainbow colors and have been smudged too.  For a change it is nice to make a mess that I don't have to clean up afterwards.

Hi Dawn thank you, it was a  funny page to do. The older  masterclasses have so much info on how to make things that are basic in a way, just like the blackboard. I am going to look into others as well. Nice to see you around these days,

Corrie and Pirkko, really like your take on the Random Challenge. Below is mine. Used the rainbow gradient (with texture) for the background and then lessened the opacity; used the rainbow gradient for the paper underneath the 2 photos. Another chance to use my many colors of crayon rubbing leaves. Also used the rainbow gradient in the title which I inner beveled. Agree with you, Pirkko, the rainbow is a special sign from God and should not be used politically.

Thanks, Corrie. Don't remember which Lab called for crayon rubbing. Right now they are in my folder which I call Lab 9 since that is the lab I am currently working in as I work my way through the labs. Maybe you have a folder called "Elements" or "Flowers and Leaves"? I had to make one when I started in the labs as that is where I store most of my elements called for in the labs. My current problem for storage (so I don't lose what I've done) is: shall I make folders called by a theme? or shall I store elements and papers by color? Not sure how to store them by palette unless I name them by a palette name (which would be closer to theme wouldn't it?). Decisions, decisions, decisions!!!

Corrie - I really like your display in this forum. Where do I find the tutorial on what you did with your picture? I remember seeing it mentioned someplace but I'm not sure where.

Good evening Dawn,  thank you for your comment.  I  go out early most mornings, I find it calm and quiet, to crawling around looking for insects, while they are warming up under the rising sun.  I find the Fuzzy flies adorable, at around 8-10mm from tip of their proboscis to their bottom. The newly emerged Mayfly landed on the camera, so I  placed  her on my finger to take a shot before placing her on a blade of grass. Her lifespan is only a few hours, a day at the most.  Such beautiful creatures.  The Lacewings are ever so delicate, yet fierce, ferocious  predators .  An asset in anyone's garden, as they eat aphids, green, white and black flies.   Best wishes, Sue

Another wonder of the day.  I  always marvel at  finding   a grasshopper's discarded exoskeleton.  Mother Nature truly is  marvelous.  While their  new skeleton is  hardening, they are at their most venerable.    The grasshopper slips out, leaving the tiny skeleton in tact, from the eyes to the toes.  Macro photography.

 

Stitched Text, using Cooper Black font, scallops, mask, overlay, paint splatter, using a rainbow of colours. I always choose colours from my photos.

Thank you Dawn. Insects aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they make for interesting pages and information, to spark some interest. Some of my pages are not the usual topics, you will find in the campus. But they are recieved well by most.

Now to start my day.

This is a great challenge, and I love the example with the buttons. Once I've made a layout for the Bootcamp that had a button frame... This could be another idea to use buttons as a frame.

Corrie, I love the contrast between the smudged blackboard and the rainbow alpha. Also, the watercolor sketch looks great...Have to check this technique... I am making some layouts but even slower than before, if that is possible.

 

Pirkko and Mary, those layouts are also nice examples of how to use the rainbow colors!

 

Sue, beautiful layouts and photos as usual... Waking up early in the morning for sure pays off to get those great shots!... I love the elegant details you added up to the page.

I think I used all of the components but only added color to them to use as backgrounds for other stuff.  My dear Foxy isn't a puppy any more, but she sure does love her "lamby" toy.    OOPS I posted this in the wrong place. I don't mind if it is deleted.
