Maybe your program got a hiccup when it misbehaved. He was selecting two layers at a time to do it (not the first one), but it wasn't working for me, and I didn't want to waste time figuring out why. But he ended up with about 10 segments (curve layers) too. Also, he showed different techniques for tracing the parrot. Later, while watching another video, I discovered that there's a way to stack the segments, but first, you have to ensure that the lines intersect. I only watched; I haven't practiced yet... something to do when this workshop ends. Edited May 30 by Cristina 5
MoniqueN. Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Just wondering: Why is the curve layer light-grey on the right? Usually it means you can't use it, but that is not the case now 🙂 3 1

Love the cup! If I would see it in a shop I would buy it 😉 7 1 1

I know how to fix that now. My problem now is, why do I keep getting the extra gold bit on the inside of the letter B? I have redone that section over and over and each time it done the same thing. I then tried it with another Letter, and it appears ok. Do not know when the problem was. Lesson 6? Is this one form the Affinity workshop that was earlier this year? @Cassel Do I remember it well there will be a Affinity workshop again in september?🙂 7
Cristina Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Day 4 I like this Geometry tool in Affinity. 😊 It’s not traced correctly, as the cup handle has a different color from the cup, but this is something I still need to learn because I wanted to keep the outline. One day at a time. 10
Jeni Simpson Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Day 4 I was out most of the day and only got around to finishing this one now. 1 10
Jacques Posted May 30 Posted May 30 9 hours ago, Cassel said: @JacquesGreat leaves! Don't you find that cutting out holes is easier in Affinity? @CasselIndeed, the "Pen" and "Node" tools are easier to use. I also like the "Object Selection" tool which makes selecting objects much easier. 2
Sue Thomas Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Day 5. I was in my element creating these. I accidentally discovered the erase tool at the bootom of the effects. Hence the outcome of the Violets page. 3 9
Euka Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Just managing to do the basics of the lessons due to time restrictions, the more I work with this program the more I like it. I somehow lost the duplicated circle - I think I ctrl z'd too many times 🙂 so popped a tube in the centre and changed the text so it was relevant - I do like how easy that is to do. 11

MoniqueN. Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Lesson 5 Was fun to do 🙂 The spacing was in part 2 ok, only 2 characters needed spacing, so I selected them and that worked too. 🙂 (And now I would like to learn how to cut out the circle 😎) I bought myself an Affinity book yesterday 🙂 it's such a fun program I would like to learn a lot. I've got far too many hobby's 😉 12

It is not a lot unlike the from vector shape in PSP, except you drag the selected layer into the layer you want to remove it from. 6

Thank you for the explanation, I didn't found it. I shall give it a try but not now it is 11.30 pm! 5
Corrie Kinkel Posted May 30 Posted May 30 (edited) Day 5 This is more what I love to do and in Affinity it is so easy to use a reverse path for the text! Wow I'm impressed! Again I used some photos from my trip. No I have posted here, I notice that the color of the text around the flowers makes it difficult to read. Edited May 30 by Corrie Kinkel 11

Sharon Murray Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Day 4 - my dinosaur looks like something a first grader would draw lol. I wish I knew how to join the two colored layers into the same shape but keep the two different colors. Is it even possible? For the spikes I did them on a new layer since I wanted them a different color. I had to bring them in after the dinosaur shape, then I duplicated and tried to manipulate them around the tail. Bad job but I got tired to playing around with it. I couldn't figure out how to use the eraser tool like I wanted! It's not easy just to grab it and erase. I've still got a lot to learn in Affinity! Don't even get me started on the toes - they saved as individual assets too ugh! After I realized I had saved my dinosaur with the outline, I was too frustrated to go back and resave it without after noticing I'd have to bring in each of the toes and everything else in again. Everyone is doing such an amazing job, I am also too embarrassed to even post mine! 1 10

Hence the outcome of the Violets page. These are fabulous, Sue, and I so agree with the sentiments expressed around the flowers. I love violets and have a great crop under my bay tree. As for bluebells, I have those also. I love them en masse. I learned about Milford Haven years ago when I worked in travel in Fiordland. We had a boat in Milford Sound named the Milford Haven, after that place in Wales. I sometimes would work on her after my time selling tickets on the wharf. Milord Sound is a place where certain rules must be adhered to in order to keep the area pristine for tourists. For example, there is no washing out on the lines, and, in those days, no ticket office on the wharf, so I sat in a van for a few hours selling tickets for the cruises, before heading out to sea on the Milford Haven. 3

gwen jewitt Posted May 31 Posted May 31 This is all I could manage for lesson 5 it took me far longer than it should have I think my brain was scrambled. I used Triangles to draw the kite shape and tried to give the top and bottom of the kite a smooth rounded curve to make it easier for my text. I added the ribbon later and put it underneath the text. It is now 1.30am I think I should go to bed now😁 10
