ScrapBootcamp3-800-Title-400x300.jpg

As of 2025, we will be adding tutorials for Affinity Photo, in the Campus. To help you get started, we will offer a bootcamp with basic tutorials and projects you can create.

This first Affinity Bootcamp will start on January 13th. Once it starts, you can post your projects (and questions) in this thread.

Remember to resize your images to about 600 pixels AND save them in jpg format, before uploading them to the gallery (check this tutorial to upload to the gallery) so it won't slow down the site when we have lots of your masterpieces. Try to follow the tutorials at least enough so that we can recognize what lesson you completed.

Now, let's get ready!

If you missed the registration link or if you found this thread before I announced it (some people are very observant), HERE it is. Share it around if you want. Remember that Affinity is available for Mac users so if some friends might want to jump into digital scrapbooking but could not join the Campus before because they could not get PSP to work on their computer, this is the time to invite them.

Although this Bootcamp is mostly meant to help beginners, we won't exclude anyone for "excess experience". If you have previously participated in the Scrap Bootcamp (using PaintShop Pro), the projects are the same BUT the steps will be different since both programs have distinct sets of tools and commands. It will be a good way for you to compare both!

The 7 tutorials will be spaced out over almost 2 weeks. This should make it easier for participants to follow without feeling stressed (it should never be stressful!).

@Cassel I downloaded the trial versions - there are four parts to it, I think. Here's a screenshot of what I downloaded. Please let me know what to do, and don't do, next. Thanks

They are all installation files but I found that I only needed the affinity-photo-msi-2.5.7.exe (the 3rd on your list) when I installed it. The msix are a new type of installation file (my computer wouldn't open it). The arm64 files are for a specific type of processor. I would guess that you would need one of the 2 purple icon installers depending on what kind of processor you have.

Thanks, Rene. I have to run out but I'll do it when I get back in about an hour. Thanks, again!

Well I'm going to download and install the trial version, but I'll wait a bit and do it a couple of days before this bootcamp starts. Therefore I have some time afterwards to play with it a bit more before I decide if I want to buy it and take it further or stay with PSP for the time being. Thanks to Ann and Rene I now know at least what I have to install!

Corrie, I wish I had thought of that as I went ahead and installed it and now have only 7 days to play with it. Also, don't forget the bootcamp is a 14-day workshop with a new assignment every 2 days. I'll try Affinity's own tutorials that I see are offered and see how it goes.

Even if it is a 30-day trial, you would still have time to go through the whole Bootcamp.

I am not sure how long is the trial right now. They had a special offer, a few months ago for a 6-month trial, but I think it is no longer the case.

Oh 😞 I will reach out and see if they have a way to extend it. I'll update you as soon as I get anything.

I'm glad that I didn't download it just now! Patience has some virtue, maybe I should keep that in mind as I'm not the most patient person🥲

Carole - Can you add adjusting the size of the menus/toolbars to your list? My tired eyes would appreciate your help.

Which list?

If I understood correctly, this "bootcamp" is to make us aware of another program than Paint Shop?

Is this what you will use from now on or will you continue with Paint Shop and Infinity?

Paint Shop Pro is still going to be Carole's focus for the Campus but with the developer no longer going forward with new versions of the program, she has decided to expand by adding another program to the Campus. Affinity is available for both Mac and PC so this could bring in entirely new users.

@Cassel I was in a chat last night and mentioned you were starting classes on Affinity. One of the gals currently uses PS (not sure which product) but is considering moving to Affinity if Adobe raises the price of the subscription. She has done a few things with it but has not explored it a whole lot. I told her to check out the Campus and the bootcamp!

Any list. It would probably be good in a session about setting up the desktop. I can't remember if that is part of Boot Camp or one of the others.

I just need guidance on increasing the toolbars and menu font size. I haven't found a way to do it.

This article might be what you are looking for. But I'll check to see if it is mentioned in the Scrap Bootcamp.

I don't have the  Affinity Photo 2 program and will probably not have it when this workshop starts, but I am very interested in seeing how it works.

If Carole can get them to expand the trial version, I may download it, but I am not going to purchase it right now as I am going in a different route.

But, who knows in the future…

That is for Corel/PSP - Gerry's asking for Affinity.

Oh, yes, the few customizations are addressed in the first lesson too.

Good news for those who want to use the trial version. I just got an email from them and they will be able to extend your trial to at least 30 days (which makes more sense to try a program!) I am just waiting for the details on the process so stay tuned!

It is confirmed! I managed to get everyone a 90-day trial. This will allow you to follow the bootcamp AND the next workshop in February with Affinity.

For that, I need to forward them your contact information, and they will add a 90-day trial to download in your account. If you have already installed the 7-day trial, you would have to uninstall it, download the 90-day version, and install it.

If you want/need that 90-day trial, please, drop me a message. I don't want to share anyone's contact information without your express permission.
