    Week 25

Working in colors that are quite bright for me.  The background is a gradient that added a gaussian blur to the max and repeated it several times.  Then i added a texture ("blinds" I think) and then added another texture on top of that (Texture>striation).  I used the same gradient on the ring of the magnet and in the text (week 25).

Yes, it is unusually bright for you but the colors match the glow on your teapot! So well done and I love it!

@Ann Seeber @Mary Solaas @Corrie Kinkel OK.  Need to lose the period that ended up in the link at the end.  Let me try again.

    http://www.toroscope.com/files/USA-MAP.zip

Better to copy and paste the link in the address bar.  When I tried on my reply, it gave me something about unsecure download.  Should work fine just typing it in or pasting it.  OR BEST...right click then "Save link as" from this post.

Daniel thank you, I got it and by seeing how Ann did it, I just typed the link in the address bar. This way I didn't get a message about unsecure download and my anti virus software is usually very picky. Clearly there are many ways to do things.........

I asked at the garden center FAQ and "lice" is looked at as "aphids" here. Possibly a European term for the same insect? When I had to deal with my girls coming home from first grade with a "lice infestation" in their hair I didn't see it as "aphids." In fact, I also had an infestation of aphids on my indoor succulents a few years ago.

Oh, I just found it. The government of Canada has the answer: Plant lice = aphids

Ann in turn I didn't know this. I used the translation of the Dutch word "luis" or plural "luizen" and found louse or plural lice. It are those little greenish basterds that leave a sticky surface on the plants and ants love them! When you notice them in the garden than you are sure to see ants feasting on them. We use the word "luizen" also when there is a lice infestation in the hair of schoolkids. It seems that lice is a more generic word for a small and wingless parasitic insect on man, animals and plants , while aphids is only used for plants. At least according to my old and trusted Webster's New World Dictionary.

That's fabulous Corrie.  There is so much variations in the color and the veining looks so cool.  Petunias remind me of my mom, she always had them.

Thank you! For a while petunias were considered old fashioned but they are back in full swing. I always liked them and have them almost every year, but they are prone to lice.

  5. Week-26, we are already half way through 2024. Where is the time gone, or do I sound a bit old now.......

After all the rain of the last weeks this week the sun did its utmost best to let us forget that and not only we but the plants enjoyed it too. I have taken the opportunity to shoot a lot of photos from the plants on my small patio. The gardencenter we usually visit often has a rack with small free plants that are no longer good enough to sell but if you take care of them they most of the time perform later on. This petunia was looking dreary and didn't like all the rain but, look what a couple of warm, sunny days did to it.

Week 24, I hope it's not a bore and it leaves you wanting more.  (that's is for rhyming Sunday)

Can you believe I even found a gradient that mimics the cup.  I've always liked this cup, it's a keeper.  I used the slipped in effect.  I sure like it. Carole, how do you come up with this stuff?  I hope you keep it up.  And I also used a texture on it, and the frame outline and the 2024 text.

Susan I didn't pay much attention on P52 this week, so I only see your week-24 now. I love that cup and its colors and indeed you were lucky to find that matching gradient, otherwise you had to make it yourself and that can take some time until you get what you envisaged!

@Daniel Hess Daniel, I am fascinated by your USA map.  I have used a jpg or png of the map with the states drawn on it and then drew on it the route of where our trip took us.  I would love to have a copy of your map with the state lines drawn in as a preset shape.  Possible???

Well I would like that lovely map as well because I have done a couple of short roadtrips with my family when I was visiting them. So far I always used Google maps to draw the routes we took, but your map with the states would be a great asset for which I would be very grateful.

Donna I see you have or found the VectorSpiral script! I like that script very much because it gives a unique effect if you use it with text or picture tubes even if you only use a part of it!

Before the month ends, I wanted to get something done for the Sketch Challenge. Only the pic is mine.

Background paper is from ET Designs; mask is called "watery" from Katie Pertiet. I wanted to use the CassPaintSplash mask, but I had too much trouble adjusting it for the photo. Other elements and things from my stash or online clipart.

We have dubbed out get-togethers at our friends' pool as Dip 'n Sip days.

Julie very nice! Maybe you can ask Carole for a demonstration of the PaintSplashMask script in the next Q&A. I think if you have some problems with it, there probably will be others too that like to see it in use. Those demos help so much in understanding the way a script works.

So beautiful Corrie.  I love those soft tinty colors.  At long last summer has arrived for you.  I think we had our two days of summer and now it's fall, with constant rain.

Thank you Susan, at the moment I tend to use soft colors instead of very bright ones. By the way we had a couple of summer days but tomorrow the weather is changing to rainy and cold days again...... I used this week's good weather to take a lot of photos from the plants on my little patio for future use. The plants were so happy with the sun, as we were.

I spent yesterday revising my wedding card. Most of the graphics are from CF except the silhoutte which is from Canva. The side font is ruritania. The other fonts are FarewellAngelina and FancyPants(I don't remember where I got them) and starinline(purchased from Deeezy.com). The other font is DDRadford from CF. I made the letters M and J, but stupidly forgot to save the vector so I don't remember what it is, but it's from CF. I also made the gold frame on the inside. The wedding is today so I just managed to get it ready after an extremely hectic week.

The card is an 8 1/2 by 11 printed borderless on card stock.

I actually like taking pictures of the moon when they are clouds or trees partially obscuring it. My absolute favorite picture I took was maybe 15 years ago. I was attending a camera club meeting at my church (we talked and learned about all things from usage of the camera to setting scenes for taking photos). When we came out it was a Harvest Moon in the sky with a cloud cover. I stood with my back against my vehicle to be as still as possible (didn't have my tripod which is highly recommended for night photos). I held my arms very close to my body and took several photos. One of them is absolutely amazing. I ended up having it printed as an 8x10 and put into a larger frame with matting. It was displayed in the church along with other photos from members of the camera club for awhile. It now hangs in my living room. I love the spooky feel of it!

I also did this layout of the photo.

Rene what a great shot and your layout is very wel suited for this photo! I like it very much. What I said to Anne about not being in the right place for such photos is however true. In the Netherlands the streets and squares in the cities and villages are on a totally different scale as what I have encountered in the States. We don't have many open spaces in our villages. Of course the really big cities like New York are an exemption. I tried to take photos of the moon in my village but, there is always a street lamp, a car or a building obscuring my view; believe me, I wouldn't mind a tree.

  13. After finishing with the Vector Workshop I took a pause because we had such nice weather for a change. This was the first time this year we could sit outside in the evening, much welcome after all that terrible rain. But after a few days I wanted to see what the Argyle-2 script which I won is doing. I love it, it gives so many options qua colors that can be matched to a project. Of course I wanted to use it in a project and I took the Sketch and incorporated not only the argyle tiles but the photo corners freebie by Carole too. Those use the blogtrain color palette for this month and I have the freebie kits from Jessica Dunn and Marissa Lerin where all the elements are from. I don't know if it is clear in this reseized version but the background has a texture. The fonts are Crocus Monogram and Georgia and the photo is by me as usual.

I have been otherwise occupied for a few days. Most of my deadlines come toward the end of the month which leaves me not much time (or energy) to work on much else. All clear now.

These shapes (with Vector Tubes) are from Lesson 6. They worked well for me, could even call them fun this time. I don't expect to be a Vector Expert in this lifetime, but it feels good to just be able to manage those #@*&# nodes better. (The green shape with the weird fringe is just for fun b/c I had a fringe tube in there.)

I'm glad you are starting to have fun with those #@*&# nodes! I love the fringe one!

    Carole,

Thank you so much for your lessons on Vector.

I like what I have learned so far and expect to review to get a better handle on what I have not "mastered" yet.

    Everyone else,

Thank you for sharing your work.

    Thank you for helpful input.

Thank you for encouragement by showing what can be done, and encouraging words to push ahead.

    This is great!

And having something that I have learned that I can use in the future is really the best part.

Randy great that you enjoyed the workshop and even greater that you will be able to use what you have learned. When you use it you will getting better in doing it and discover new ways to use it differently.

    I got 9 out of 10,

#7 wrong, I kept going back and forth and thought the one I chose was more important

I laughed at the answers from #4 - the last answer.

it was a fun quiz to do.  I did much better from last year.

To add to the fun I had 8 out of 10.

Lesson 6. I'm going to have to work hard on this path business.  It seems that I've forgotten a lot! With the Globe of the earth, I had to put another circle around the outside of the globe as the maps of north and south america are also open and thus a path. The leaf was interesting - made the leaf last year in the vector workshop and using it as a path this year, I fooled around with different picture tubes and finally settled on the stars. The letter - I had already worked with it several days converting text to a path and this time no problem. I used a string created earlier.

Mary you said you had to put a circle around your map to make a path for the planes tube, but have you considered to hide that path? Hide, not delete!

A book store? Are those still around? The only place I see books are at Wal-Mart and they aren't displayed on shelves because they don't have that many.

I understand what you are saying but in my opinion, there are some books that are much more useful in a lay flat version whether it is a coil binding or not. Workbooks and instructional books being the genre which is what I consider this book to be.

Although I will admit, I will not be purchasing Carole's book because of having been a scrapper for over 25 years. I feel it is geared more towards a beginning scrapper. I think it is a wonderful thing she did and I'm sure many of you will find it to be very useful.

Rene, where I live we have bookstores a plenty as well as a good library with ebooks and of course they are displayed at shelves or on tables. Because of my eye condition I nowadays only use digital ones, just as the newspapers, but I like going to the bookstore in our shoppingcenter and have a look at the new arrivals! The feeling of a real paper copy is something I miss  but I'm glad with the digital opportunities we now have.
