Raymond Easley Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Since I have retired I have more time to learn the particulars concerning PSP. While scrapbooking isn't my main interest, I have found Carole to be an excellent teacher and is so knowledgeable about PSP I couldn't go wrong. I like to restore old photos especially, would like to learn how to mask, etc without having to resort to Topaz Labs which I use daily. I think it is an incredible program too. I have taken some photography classes and enjoy the manual settings. I have become a bluebird enthusiast and had 12 to fledge this year. I enjoy catching them in flight as they land or leave the house. I use PSP to obtain the clearest settings, etc. I don't know if I have been missing Scrapbooking and who knows, it may be my next interest? I will say, however, if someone asks me, "are you happy you retired"? the answer is yes because I have the time to do things like this. Raymond Atlanta, Georgia
Cassel Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Hi and welcome Raymond. I do remember seeing your name in some classes so you are already familiar with who I am. You will discover a whole circle of other PSP enthusiasts here who are not necessarily doing scrapbooking as their main use for PSP, but for some, they did discover that new hobby. We have other members who are also genealogy enthusiasts so you are in good company here. Don't hesitate if you ever have any questions, to ask, either in the forum or by email.
Raymond Easley Posted September 21, 2020 Author Posted September 21, 2020 I have already used some of the tips that you have suggested in "fixing" old photos. Some of them I already knew but some I didn't, which is the main reason I joined. Thank you again.
Raymond Easley Posted September 21, 2020 Author Posted September 21, 2020 From using the tips Carole sent to me last night concerning fixing old photos. I primarily used the Scratch Removal Tool, Clone Tool, the first time I had tried the Selection tool and Magic Fill, Sharpen.
sandra jones Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Welcome Raymond. I love what you did with the old photo you restored. Excellent job on the scratches and the coloring. I just moved back to Michigan from a town in Georgia called McDonough. Its not far from Atlanta at all. Sandra
Bonnie Ballentine Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Sandra, I have a cousin in McDonough. Stayed with her for the Olympics in Atlanta.
Michele Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Welcome to the Campus, Raymond. I'm not a scrapbooker, per se, but I've learned so much from Carole. I agree that she's an excellent teacher. You might also want to check out her book on Amazon. Every time I look through it, I pick up something else.
Shirley Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Awesome job Raymond, I m doing the same at the moment, big job sorting 60 yrs of photos for a scrapbook. Cheers Shirley
Raymond Easley Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 Shirley, thank you. I have been trying to restore old photos for at least 2 years. I think I am getting better at it. Nice of you to comment thank you again.
Raymond Easley Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 Michele, thank you for the tip. I actually did look at it on Amazon yesterday. Did you find the book helpful on basic things or do you have to be fairly "advanced" to understand it?
Michele Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I think the book would be great for people at any level.
Bonnie Ballentine Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Carole's book is a great resource for any one/any level. I have it on my desk and use it often.
Raymond Easley Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 Thanks Michele, Bonnie, I just ordered her book. Thank you for your advice.
Mary Solaas Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Raymond - wow - wonderful job in restoration. Shirley -I have been absent from the campus because I have been caught up in dealing with 40 years of photos - don't know if I could deal with 60! Ha Ha! Need to get back and my next project is laid out for me "Buttons and Bows" with a photo of my great granddaughter who has a birthday on 10-4. Really miss being with you guys!!!
Raymond Easley Posted September 23, 2020 Author Posted September 23, 2020 This is a photo copied from ancestry.com. I used Topaz Labs Gigapixel to enlarge before converting to a Tiff file. I brought it into PSP and used Color-Fade, sharpen, AI Denoise.....I did use the Topaz Labs Denoise AI and Sharpen AI but I think the best sharpening was done by PSP. In the very bottom left you can make out the date, Dec., 26, 1896. It certainly must have been a huge family event to state a photographer, a day after Christmas.
Raymond Easley Posted September 25, 2020 Author Posted September 25, 2020 Carole, I want to thank you for showing me some new techniques when it comes to restoring old photos. Primarily I used the Crop tool, Push brush, Selection tool and using Magic Fill to correct the tear.
