Cassel Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Do you like maple syrup and what do you use it with? Do you have a favorite recipe using maple syrup? or how about some non-conventional use for it? Let's share.
Michele Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Pancakes and waffles, baby! There was a series of books I read as a kid, but I can't remember the name. It was about a family (I don't think it was The Happy Hollisters). But I seem to remember them being in Vermont during maple syrup season and their grandparents poured the hot syrup on fresh snow to make candy. 2
Corrie Kinkel Posted March 19 Posted March 19 We don't have trees that produce maple syrup in the Netherlands, but you can buy it over here because it is imported and rather expansive! Maybe I will buy some when I'm visiting in California to take home with me. However that depends if it is affected by the import tariffs getting 25% higher in which case it can even be cheaper here. 1

Cassel Posted March 20 Author Posted March 20 And if you want a very traditional recipe from Quebec (where I am from), here is something that is served at sugar shacks: https://maplefromcanada.ca/recipes/dumplings-in-maple-syrup/ In fact, just about everything served at a sugar shack in Quebec, is cooked or baked in maple syrup: ham, bacon, baked beans, even eggs! 2 1
Ann Seeber Posted March 20 Posted March 20 As I have gotten older, I am no longer a big fan of maple syrup -- too sweet! I choose to top my pancakes or waffles with applesauce and even that is the unsweetened variety made with tart Granny Smith apples. My parents often drove from our home in New Jersey to Vermont for vacation, and, of course, brought home lots of syrup and maple sugar candy. They even visited a quarry and acquired a large, flat piece of beautiful marble for me that I installed as a top on an old Singer Sewing Machine base made of black wrought iron, including a large treadle. My Laurey still has it in her entryway. 1 2

As my mother was hopeless with everything that was sewing related, it was my gran that taught me how to use a sewing machine. When my parents saw that I liked it they decided to buy me a sewing machine, but a much more modern electrical one. 2

This table is where my Christmas tree that is decorated with sand dollars that Dad found on the beaches of Hilton Head in the early 80's.
