Cassel Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Let's continue this challenge for another year. We might be the ones taking pictures but we are not the feature of our layouts, so let's change that since we ARE important and have lots to say. Every month or so, the layout will be about YOU, and a prompt will be given. If you have taken the Story Week Challenge, you will find some similarities but it won't be the same. For the February layout, tell us about your work/career. Did you have one or multiple jobs? Even if you were a homemaker for many years, did you have any kind of job? Share something about it. If you have photos, it would be nice to see some too! Remember that if you want to create pages for previous prompts, those threads will stay open. There is no right or wrong order to share about YOU.
Ann Seeber Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (edited) I dreamed of being a journalist but ended up working in the advertising department of my local newspaper in Sussex County, NJ. Newspapers were always very important to me. I eventually transitioned to the larger paper, the Middletown Times Herald Record, where I was part of the support staff to the advertising salespeople. I did a layout about my newspapers back in 2020: Edited February 8 by Ann Seeber added date 9
Corrie Kinkel Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I have had a short working career because when our kids were born I stayed home. In those days - 50 years ago - childcare was non existent. In many cases the grandparents came babysitting but our parents lived too far away to do so on a regular basis. Of course I had a circle of friends where the kids could go if I had for instance a doctor's appointment and I looked after theirs. When children were about 3 years old they could for 2 mornings to a playgroup. But as soon as my kids were in Kindergarten and Elementary I became a secretary to the schoolboard for many years. It was a voluntary job with expenses paid and besides that the school was always in need of parents (mothers mostly) helping out. 1 9
Ann Seeber Posted February 11 Posted February 11 PART 2 - ALL ABOUT ME - My History with Movie Theaters. I used the Lab 12-05 template, film reel and strip from PNGWing, title is Elephant font, text is Copperplate Gothic. My PSP2023 behaved perfectly with a text bounding box, even after I made a correction. The background is from Google Maps of the Warwick Drive-In property and surroundings. 9

The one I had written it in Word, then I changed the colour of the background and did a print screen of the area where the text was and pasted it into PSP, then cropped it to size and added it to the design. 3

Expand That's a good idea. I would have thought it would be low resolution but I had no problem reading the words even when you compressed it for the forum. usually if I want to wrap I open the file in 2022 and do it. I'd use 2022 but I really like the 2023 for being able to see the blend modes in real time. If PSP 2022 and 2023 had a baby (2022.5) it would be perfect. 😄 1 4
Lyn Lou Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I use 2022 and Jasc 7 I have 2023 but have not used it as much. I created mine as 800x800 and found the overall image looked smaller once I uploaded it. And as you say it was still readable. 1
Ann Seeber Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I decided I didn't like the graphic I made for our Warwick Drive-In on this forum so here it is again with a substantial change. The font used is Brittanic Bold. I also added a cass-datestamp#9 to the lower right. 7

Going to the theatre was such a special event in my childhood (although I couldn't make through a movie without at least one trip to the bathroom). I like how you have the lower opacity background, with the overhead view of the drive in. The last time I was in a drive in was the early 90's. Gone are days of that big clunky speaker you hung on the window of your car (that was one of the coolest parts of going to a drive in). I just saw that the drive-in I used to go to in Langley, BC closed last summer due to property tax increase of 260%(likely this number is from the start of the business to the end). Where I live now there are no drive-in theatres and the local mall has "theatre" nights in the summer where they project the movie on a screen mounted to the side of a semi trailer. It's not the same as a real drive-in. Sitting in a mall parking lot in my car with the very busy road right in front of me while trying to watch a movie doesn't appeal to me (and no bathrooms!) Anne Lamp Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Here is my lifelong careers. Or I should say lack of. I have always worked hard and did the best I could in each of them. Right now my career is the best of all (mostly retired) and I think I am doing pretty good job at that one too. 8
Lyn Lou Posted February 14 Posted February 14 (edited) Anne Being a Jack of all trades is a good job. Whilst most people may excel in one job, you have many skills that are useful for any other job that you may need to do. (transferable skills). That is an achievement. I have changed my career a few times, and when I worked in the school they tend to give you different jobs to do as well as the one you are employed to do. To me it made the job more interesting having a variety of things to do. Edited February 14 by Lyn Lou 4 2
