Remember that even though these lessons are meant to replicate the effect in the layout above, you are more than welcome to try them, create your own elements, apply them to your own projects and customize them to suit your taste or your needs.

Experiments

The experiments are meant to challenge your creativity, or inspire you. So often we tend to create scrapbook pages, cards or other graphic projects that are kind of similar from one another. Of course, your personality and your style will be a common thread throughout all the projects but sometimes, it is interesting to stretch our imagination a bit, to step out of our comfort zone, and even discover totally new angles to things we have done routinely. Here are the Experiments for this module.

 

1- Title Work : Multiple fonts: In a previous experiment, we suggested you used different fonts for different words in a title. Now, how about going even crazier and vary font letter by letter? Layout made by Hereiam.

 

2- Element: Gears: Adding gears and cogwheels is a way to embellish a layout without using flowery elements, which, sometimes, for some occasions or themes, you want to avoid.   Layout from SuePlumb and you can have a look a her blog HERE.

3- Color/Pattern: Newspaper: Although you might have options to buy or design various patterns for your papers, how about simply scanning or photographing random newspapers and using them as a mix of background paper? 4- Sketch/Template: Multiple mats: How about a layout using multiple mats behind the photos? With 3 simple photos, you can embellish them with 6 different mats using whatever papers you want to use. This layout is from Rochelle. You can download the layered template or the sketch in the Notebook.

5- Fun Font Find: Another fun handwritten tool that can be used with a chalk texture on a blackboard, or add some thickness and it might look like henna. The download link is in the Notebook.
