    Day 5 part 2
I found a photograph I took in the early evening from a road up in the hills near where I live.
I love this time of day, and have a few pix taken at a similar time.

With this 5th lesson the fun is starting, at least for me. I use text on a path regularly on all kinds of projects, so no problems here. For this assignment I used a photo from a friend which I have for a long time, but never used it. I vividly remember the very first time I tried to make a postmark in the first Travel Challenge I participated in when I was a newbie to scrapbooking and the Campus. It took me for ages and I didn't understand what I was doing! Now I use postmarks very often for a date or a place and this time I played a bit with my postmark, made it in color with 2 little flowers left and right and a photo in the middle. As it is suppoost to be a postmark I used a distressed brush to give it some grunginess.

What a stunning photo Corrie.   Both of them

Getting better.... only took 3 tries to get these assignments done. the first is enclosed.... sending second one separately as I am not sure if the two together will create issues. This one doesn't fare well in a small size but it is gorgeous as a wallpaper. Couldn't resist adding the frame.

I love this.  My best friend (since I was 12 yrs old) has just moved to Scotland (Nairn on the Moray Coast ).  What a beautiful country.  My dad's side of the family hails from Scotland too.

I love this!  You think spelling something wrong in a layout...try hand lettering a quote and seeing a typo at the end...especially if you got all the spacing correct and the lines straight.  There is no undo only a do-over.

Agreed, eating your feelings is very calming! (BTW, I LOVE shortbread)

  6. Lesson 3

I thought everything was going great.  Somehow my anti alias got unchecked.  I wondered why things were so jaggy despite not being that zoomed in.  Ah, the newbie in me rearing it's mistake-ridden head again.  I will post what I did so far because I'm out of time now.  I did the camera parts as different objects that I WAS going save as a preset shape.  I liked the camera (from the summer collection download) so I will do it again, I can sure use the extra practice since I see some mistakes I want to fix.  I also showed the outline on the camera so you could see the parts.  I need to go bang my head against the wall and repeat:  Anti Alias ALWAYS checked.  If I had a blackboard I'd write lines too! 😩

Proofreader's Notes: "Lilies" (only 2 "Ls" in lilies); "pistil, the female reproductive part of a flower." (Only one "L" in pistil).

Has your letter L developed a stutter? 😉😉

Beyond my ribbing you, I do love this layout. ❤️ I must try that with a swashy font!

OMG! hahahahahaha, ya, that's it!  It's not ME, it's my KEYBOARD!  From now on I will run all my layouts by you first.  Sheepishly, I will admit I used cut and paste from the internet on that journaling.  Did you think I could actually write that well?  I could have gotten an AI to write it, but since the google AI has recommended using "glue" as pizza sauce and another recommendation of how many rocks a person can eat, I think I might be able to piece some words together better than that.  I just looked at the bigger version.  It is an "i" but it's hard to see the dot.  Poor choice of font on my part.  As looking at the version here, it looks like two L's for sure.  Keep up the ribbing and editor extraordinaire duties, please!

You said it so well about the change in MODE! I have to always remind myself: am I on the right layer? Is the mode in edit? Do I have the pen tool selected? These vectors are demanding.

These are good reminders, I wrote them down.  thank you.

Sorry but I finshed lesson 2 & forgot to post it. Been distracted by that massive heat dome over our area & the fact that our electricity has been out so no airconditioning all day today. I didn't get fancy with this one, just tried to get the nodes & grouping right.

I love the organic designs(and that we can make original ones anytime). That label is a great shape with the rounded corners.

  11. I have fixed my mistakes, here is version two.  Thank you Sue, for the info about the text kerning and stretching.  Really good point about going vertical AND horizontal in regards to possible distortion on the glyphs and letters.  I must admit I had not thought of that. In this new version everything stayed in it's original shape and size.  Thanks again to you and to Ann for finding my mistakes.  Sounds like you (Sue) are having a good time with all creatures great and small on your farm.  I'm just about through a crazy work week then I will reunite with my camera, which probably feels pretty abandoned.

There is a little more texture in the background (lower portion) but it's hard to see here.

It was good to review this lesson, as I didn't remember the "c-r-a-c paste" tip.

As I am traveling tomorrow morning, I will catch up with the lessons once I'm back.   The workshop will be over by then, but I want to finish it. 🙂

Jnet, you sure have a lot of work ahead of you; moving to a new home and sorting out the things you have accumulated over the years.

Oh, no. Losing all your saved passwords hurts. ☹️ I always keep mine the old way, in a notebook, in case technology fails.

This is me as well.  Then every once in a while I redo the whole notebook.  I dont want my passwords stored on my PC so I keep it the old fashioned way.  And besides, we hardly "write" anymore.  I still do, I'm a neurotic note-taker.

I believe that the adjective that you are looking for is  "mephistophelian"  derived from an evil spirit to whom Faust sold his soul.

oooh, I love that word "mephisitophelian".  I also think Titivillus, the patron saint of mistakes (Actually of scribes: that's who we blamed for calligraphy mistakes when I was learning calligraphy) is another culprit to our taming of the modes.. Here's the google interpretation of the dastardly demon:   Titivillus is a demon said to introduce errors into the work of scribes.

Just gotta keep working on these. Not for any lesson design, just for fun. My initials and then a snowgirl to remind me of nice crisp cold weather which I am craving right now!

    fun with vectors.jpg

These are so  cool.  You could make a whole alphabet.  LOVE the snowgirl!  I cant imagine the temperatures you are having.  Is your A/C fixed?  We have had so much rain and two nights ago almost 0 degrees.  Should be in the high 20's or low 30's (Celsius) by now.  Weird weather everywhere.

  17. Lesson 2

Felt a bit better, less panic when I over click while trying to catch the nodes.  Lots of UNDO!  Still, it's really satisfying playing with the nodes and getting a better "handle" on the handles.

Those nodes can be VERY annoying.

Sometimes, I have to click, click, and click to see the arms. The arms are also another issue, as they are so thin, even when the nodes are bigger.

I have all these issues too.  I had to turn the node size back to small because I couldn't seem to hit the middle when they were bigger.  Lots of zooming in required.  Oh, and sometimes the arms are so short I don't think they are there.  I'm trying to watch the cursor better as it switched to arrows doesn't it.  And sometimes I get the 4 arrows but don't know why.  they don't let me click on the nodes, this did stop once I went back to smaller nodes.

Lesson 2 I followed the video and saving the shapes worked correctly and now show in the pre-sets.

    Thanks Carole

I did start to create a group of arrows all went well until the program decided to do its disappearing act, at the time I was working on layers and grouping, then a silent closure.

    Next time it works ok.

Png images are not allowed on the forums so is there any benefit in using a transparent background. For me the squares get in the way, I find it better to use a white background with the grid view, now I find it easier to keep things in proportion. I have also noticed that I can use the arrow keys to move nudge the nodes making positioning much more accurate, need to investigate further I’m sure drawing and using those nodes will get easier with practice, I need to watch that video again.

I got the silent treatment from my PSP last night.  I however, wasn't so "silent" about PSP's rather abrupt and rude behavior.

Stunning simplistic page.  They are easy to create, providing there aren't  any gaps in the text from edge to edge of the  page. The correct spelling for the flower Lily is spelt with one l. As it comes from lilium which is its genus. A child's  name Lily can be be spelt in several ways, including two l's. There are other variations on creating this type of layout  in the  no kit masterclasses if you are interested.

Thank you Sue, accolades from you mean a lot to me.  I sure did experience not getting the text edge to edge and wondered why my magic wand was acting oddly. Until I zoomed in real close and saw I was a few pixels shy on one side, therefore, opening up the whole top part of the canvas.  I will have a look at the "No Kit" masterclass this weekend, after I get through the busy work week (next week is the lighter work week - we all like that one better!).

How beautiful, Suz! You are a wizard. There's a tiny error in the text. Where it says "Zeus brought Hercules to nurse.." you need a space between "Hercules" and "to." I'm not getting into lilies with 3 Ls! 😉❤️

Why have only 1 or 2 Ls when you can have it all with 3 Ls, am I right?  And thank you for having my back.  I see the error of my ways and will get it corrected.  This is the brain that gets up at 5am and is still on the computer at 11:30pm.  Yeesh, what has happened to me.

It almost looks like I changed Hercules name to Herculesto, or maybe he's Herc's cousin from Italy. 😁

  23. Yup, I spelled it wrong.  ARGH!  I didn't notice until I was looking up information about Calla Lilies.  Weirdly, I found some Canadian sites that use two Ls.  I'm pretending it's the Canadian spelling or maybe I accidently bought Left handed lilies?  They are spelled with two Ls, right?

I didn't quite get the layout horizontally in equal halves either.  It was fun to make though.

The font is Lophinky from CF, which has LOTS of glyphs by the way, and Arial.  Photo's are mine, I used 3 photos and a blend mode to set to Lighten.  I didn't know the flower is actually the pointy thing in the middle (pistil?) and what I thought was the flower is actually a leaf.  They are quite beautiful.

  24. Lesson 1

Heart and Arrow.  Lots of fiddling around.  I see some very cool hearts and arrows from everyone.  It's pretty inspiring.  I am keeping it simple for this workshop, as others have said, just concentrating on the forms and taming the nodes.  Some of those suckers like to multiply when I accidently click too much.

Second time round for me on this workshop..... vectors are soooo very hard to remember let alone use. I didn't use any special fill or lettering as I am still trying to concentrate on node manipulation so my imges are recognizable. Did try a bit of extra manipulation in getting the heart through the arrow but it looked flat so I grabbed a brush to add some irregular marks around the entrance point of the arrow hoping to create the effect of a bruise. Sometimes additional "play" takes the edge off those pesky nodes. I am no artist so I doubt that I will be drawing many vector images but I really want to master text on a path. As for other members comments on PSP9, I still have my old WXP with PSP9 & AS on it and it is my favourite combination by far. I kept it primarily for the seamless integration with animation shop and for its ability to use all of the older free plugins that hate 64 bit installation. I use PSP 16 & 18 but 22 is waiting for me to stop avoiding installing it. I don't mind them adding new features with each release but I just wish that they would leave the old features alone. Change for the sake of change is so annoying and don't get me started on the fine print online manuals. I still have and use the paper manual that came with PSP9, a copy of a "Paintshop Pro for Dummies" book, and , of couse, Cassels own great publication.

This looks great Middie.  I agree about the statement "change for the sake of change"....it gets exhausting trying to keep up.
