Alphabet Album - Y

Have you ever made an ALPHABET album? It is a fun way to showcase photos or stories, but with an added twist.

 

I have created an alphabet album in the past, where each page had a title (and a topic) starting with one letter of the alphabet. Then, the pages were placed in alphabetical order, even if not in chronological order. So, for 2022, I am suggesting this long-term challenge for you. With one page every 2 weeks, we will be able to finish the year with a complete album. It is up to you to decide if you want to print it or share it otherwise.

 

I will share my own pages, just for ideas, but I will also give you some more words that will start with the letter of the week. Try to think of one overarching theme to use. It could be about your last vacation, a family gathering, a hobby of yours, a location, etc. Think of something that you have lots of photos of or many words you can associate with.

 

So here is my Y layout.

 

 

 

 

Of course, you can use words in your own language too. I really had to cheat for this one as there are way too few words in French, starting with Y and none of them fit my photos.

 

Here are some other words that could be used as title/theme:

 

Yarn, Yeah, Yes, Yen, Yield, Yoga, Young, Youth, You, Year, Yawn, Year, Yellow, Yesterday, Yuletide, Yodeling, Yacht, Yard, Yardstick, Yogurt, Yo-yo, Yell, Yield, and maybe a few more you can think of, even for proper nouns of places and people.

Y is for "Y Streets". My town has several main streets that have streets branching off them that looks like a  "Y" when you look at them on a map. The 2 photos on this layout show the main street in town and 2 different streets branching off of the street. Both of these branch streets are also a branch for a "Y" on another main street on the east end of the town. There are other "Y" streets in town as well, these were just the easiest ones to get photos of!

Nowadays you can see many shops that have an English name with an Y in it. Sometimes they are international brands but most of the time it is considered to be "in" or modern to switch to English instead of Dutch. Even people have changed their name as for instance my name Corrie to Corry or Nettie to Netty, Connie to Conny, Bettie to Betty and so on. I have never done so because my name is Corrie whatever the trend may be!

 

For this layout I took photos in the shopping area and within a couple of minutes I had all the Y's I wanted; I didn't even use all of them. I didn't want all those shopphotos  as they are, but made stripes with the parts that have the Y in it. The background is a photo of a part of the shopping area. I deviated from the font I used on all the other titles because the Y was not very distinct, so this one is Western with Audiga script (as in all the other pages) and Arial for the text. The Dutch text is about the same as in the explanation above. It took me some time to come up with this idea for the Y as in Dutch there are not many Y's. In the dictionary there is only 1 page about it and that consists mainly of words from other languages. For instance Yankee, Yard, Yoga, Yucca.

Alpha book, Y page. I really struggled with this page. It began as a double page layout and it was the second page that caused me trouble. Last night I had a revolation. I don't have to do a double page layout...so here is my Y page and I am happy with it.

Bonnie! What a wonderful story! I also played with yo-yo's in my childhood but there were no contests so the incentive wasn't there. I seem to recall I could "Walk the Dog" but failed at "Around the World." Your one page layout is perfect. It is a lot of text but very readable. Are those your own accessories or "found" elements? ;-)

Thank you, Ann. All of the elements are mine. I photographed and extracted. Good memories.  The items shown are just a small selection and are 60+ years old. The yo-yo with my name cost 25 cents...maybe less.

Bonnie your story let me think of my own yoyo and I remember all the girls in my class were doing it. It drove the teachers mad because we also played in the classroom and the corridors whenever we got the chance. In the end the yoyo's where forbidden on the premises.
