libera Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Hello @all, my new attempt for a long time... I struggle with "Making a cylinder shape" when reaching this step: "Since your cylinder is all wrapped up, it is time to trim the paper. Activate the base shape layer and select the space around it using the Magic Wand. Reactivate the paper layer and hit the Delete key. Readjust the Opacity back to 100% and you have a great cylinder." When I reactivate the paper layer and hit the del-key my shape is still black. I can*t find out where is my mistake, Did somebody else try to do this and had the same issue??
Rene Marker Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 I just tried it quickly to get to that step and I did not have issue.
Sue Thomas Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Liberia, I'm guessing at what your problem may be. Using the selection tool, select the base layer, which is the rectangle you created,(with lowered opacity) with contiguous checked. Hit delete on the plaid paper. Select none. Hide or delete the rectangle you created. You should now be left with your cylinder shape. (With contiguous checked you should see that the rectangle shape is inverted, which means the cylinder shape you created should be in tact) the rectangle you created should be on its own layer. I hope this helps.
Sue Thomas Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 I hadn't checked out the cylinder shape in the blog, until I read that Libera had an issue. I thought I'd create a container. I used a paper template, and found some kitchen utensils on the net. Looking at it now I should have used a larger feather for the shadowing. Time for bed now.
libera Posted June 20, 2022 Author Posted June 20, 2022 Just wanted to say quickly thanks a lot to Rene and Sue for trying and thinking about my issue. Of course I will try it again during the week and report back. Have a nice week :)! P.S. your container looks really cool, Sue!
Cristina Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Libera, with Sue's thorough explanation, I am sure you will be able to create the cylinder shape. But if you are still in doubt and are a Diamond member, you can look at the Tube Video Tutorial from the Lab8-Module 6. Sue, I love the container for kitchen utensils you created ...the choice of paper used is perfect, and also the background to showcase it.
Sue Thomas Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Cristina, thank you for the compliment on the page. I followed the tutorial in the blog, just in case there might have been step left out. Of course there wasn't. I'm pleased you directed Libera to the Tube Lab tutorial. Although I created a container, that tube tutorial completely slipped my mind. It's impossible to remember absolutely everything that is in the campus. Although I do try, in order to assist members.
Cristina Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Sue, everybody here on the Campus is very helpful, but IMHO you are the most helpful... I read your suggestions for others, guiding with tips, mentioning tutorials I have never tried, offering your expertise... And I profit a lot from your comments and suggestions. We are very lucky to have you here, and I mean it. :) I mentioned the video because, for me, some techniques are easier and faster to understand an explanation by looking than by reading.
Sue Thomas Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Cristina, my dear, dear long time campus friend. Just when I thought my day couldn't get any better, I read your comment. You have quite literally rendered me speechless. With much appreciation and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Corrie Kinkel Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 I wanted to give the cilinder shape a try, it is some time ago that I did one and made 2. But I find that a cilinder on its own is a bit boring to show off, so I played a bit and turned them into vases with some flowers. The border is made with the mitered-corner script. The flowers and leaves I have in my stash. It is a simple layout but I enjoyed myself.
libera Posted June 22, 2022 Author Posted June 22, 2022 Thanks to Cristina too, I'm not yet a diamond member, just don't have time enough for all these offers (due to my jobs) and I regret it very much. Not working regularly with PSP makes you forget a lot. Sometimes I look back to projects I made and wonder how did I do that.... LOL Congratulations to Sue and Lynda again!!! So cool! Interesting to see the inspiration to play with the cylinder, after I posted my issue :-) Corrie, you had a clever idea turning the shape into "bloemenvaasjes", thumbs up for your result! I followed originally what was written in the blog and then tried again, following the steps Sue wrote me. Same result as before. It gave me no peace and I had to try it again today just before going to work :-) I had the sudden idea what the error could have been. And yes indeed, I created a vector shape instead of just using the selection tool, that made the difference. How silly... The wonderful thing: lovely, helping hands and new creations!!
Cristina Posted June 22, 2022 Posted June 22, 2022 Hi, Libera, Great you figured out what you were doing wrong with the help of Sue's steps/blog article. That's the way to go, we don't give up! lol
