Bit late but here is my 1-2-3 challenge for June. The photo is of my youngest Great-Nephew showing off the medals he won in a competition – I have no idea exactly which martial art he does! The tags were made from Cassel’s tutorial, using silhouettes I downloaded for free. The tapes were from an old set I have had for years called Love Every Day. The font is Karate, a free font.
K = Kites (man-made and the bird!)
Thank you Sheila and Cristina. I tried to get the colours of the papers to represent the orange glow of the fire, then the dull brown of the aftermath and finally the green of new growth. Can’t take credit for the stitching, I forgot to say I used a template from CVW at Speedscrap (I’ve had it a while, hope the details are correct!).
I’ve been away so have only just started on the June Challenges. This is my offering for the word AGAIN. It always amazes me how the Australian natives can regenerate after a fire, many of them require fire to propagate, but it is also very hard when the fires destroy homes and, more importantly, lives.
V=verandah, a nice place for pot plants, swing seats and watching the sunset with a glass of wine.
Thank you Cassel, I hadn’t heard of this, must look it up. I have often wondered whether my doll would be a collector’s item or not, I know black dolls haven’t been very popular lately.
Dawn that is a lovely page, I’m sure your Mum will love it.
Yes April, Jean & Hugh were a big part of my growing up until we came to Australia – Jean was actually my Mum’s cousin so Penny, Andrew and Rosemary were nearer my age. I only had a very small wedding and Jean actually organised for a number of Aunts, Uncles & Cousins to go to her house before transporting them to the church, then back for tea. We had a church full, even though the reception was only for 22 (including us) so we went to Jean’s to have a drink with them all before we left on our honeymoon and Jean had made another wedding cake for us to cut! I have many stories about them all. We had seen some of them each time we visited, but it seemed one or other was unavailable until this last time.
C = Courtyard, a nice place to sit and relax.
My page for the Theme of the Month (have ideas for more if I get time). The backyard is at my cousin Penny’s house in Rochester, England, the occasion was my last visit home and a chance for me and my two sisters to catch up with Penny, her mum and dad, and her brother and sister, plus our respective other halves.
I used The Lab 7-01 Template with a few adjustments, and the Hamburger Alpha as well. The backgrounds were plain colours with added textures.
Thanks Dawn, glad you liked the page. The Pilbara is one of my favourite places in Australia, I’m sure your brother and sister-in-law will love it and bring back lots of photos for you. We had a spine-tingling moment last year in the Karijini National Park in the Hamersley Ranges: we went to a lookout at a place called Circular Pool (photo below) and as we were gazing down into the gorge we heard what sounded like pan pipes playing on the breeze. Apparently a tourist had gone down to the pool and sat there playing his flute (he had been to other places as well) – it was magical.
Cassel, thank you so much for giving us this challenge, it has saved some photos from being in the “maybe delete” folder! We took these photos of iron cutouts at Newman, W.A., but the time of day wasn’t ideal and we were very disappointed with the results. Now I have used the silhouette effect I am really pleased with how they have turned out and the photos are back in “keepers” folder! The truck is actually blue but I use the Luminance (L) blend mode to literally blend it into the background. Hope to learn more about blend modes in the Master Class.
Cristina, I love the way the silhouette could be looking at the camera or looking at the view, great idea for blurry photos or ones where the facial expressions are not quite right.
Dawn, your sunset is beautiful, very clever to add your own images to the background.
Sheila I agree with Dawn, using circles adds to the concept of “Around”. Love the colour scheme too, and the use of the shield for the tag.
Dawn that is beautiful, so simple and uncluttered but very effective.
Cristina – what a lovely page, great idea to use the No Scrap technique – it works really well. I like the idea of using one of the photos as your background, I have done this a bit and it can be very effective. How lucky are we that we have a program like PSP that can allow us to do all these fancy things but doesn’t cost the earth!
Clever use of the text on a path Dawn, another great page.
Beautiful Dawn, that is one place we haven’t been, don’t know if we ever will but we do love the Kimberley region. I use masking of photos a lot, it makes a more subtle look than plain edges and can be very effective.
Dawn, loved the page showcasing South Australia, perfect for this sort of challenge. I decided to follow suit with this page about my home town of Mount Gambier – after all South Australia has a lot of beautiful places to see so why not show them off!
The photo of the Blue Lake was another panorama with the ICE program. I used Cassel’s Lifted photo script and the harlequin tile for the background.
I had done a birthday card for my Brother-in-law which had 1 ticket and two photos, so I just added three ribbons (2 straight and 1 bow). The ribbons I made using the Ribbon Factory script from Cassel, then I used the Bow6 script, also from Cassell, to make the bow. The out-of-bounds technique was from Cassel’s Out Of This World Masterclass.
Once again some beautiful pages with lots of different ideas. The colour schemes are really good. April you have just shown us all that you don’t always need a photo to do a fantastic page, your story was lovely.
I downloaded the ICE (Panorama) program Cassel told us about on the blog. I found two photos I thought would rowk and tried them. The program seemed very easy to use for a simple stitch, I have yet to look at all the settings and options, something to fill in a quiet weekend perhaps? I have posted the two original photos and the finished Panorama for everyone to look at.
Thank you for all the kind comments. Black dolls were very popular for a while in England when I was growing up, April, but I don’t think they are so common now (bit like golliwogs!). I didn’t play with dolls much as a child, preferred cars and toy guns. One day I will have to write the story of how I got the nickname of Davy Crocket!
Dawn that card is beautiful, I’m sure your Mum will love it.
Here is my layout for the theme of Toys. I used a kit I got from Scrap Girls called 1,2 Buckle My Shoe and the Block Alpha from Cassel.
What beautiful photos from everyone, I love the robin, this would be great for a Christmas card.
Lightning Ridge, NSW, is known as the home of Black Opals, but there are lots of other interesting things to see as well. Amigo’s Castle is an incomplete gothic castle being built by a local opal miner nicknamed Amigo.
We are halfway through Autumn, have just had some beautiful sunny and warm days but now the rain and cold has started, so it was nice to look back on last Spring and the wonderful wildflowers we saw in Western Australia. I used the Scattered Photo script from Cassel and the Woven Ribbon freebie to do the frame.
Cristina Lake Argyle is one of those “bucket-list” places to go to, it was made when the dam was built. You can go on a cruise and swim at sunset, although knowing there are lots of crocodiles in the lake, some of which you can see on the cruise, gives a different meaning to swimming with nature! Fortunately these crocs are not the big dangerous salties, they are more scared of us than we are of them!
Sheila I love your colours, they really complement the photos. Isn’t it amazing how many different things we can produce using just a few items?
This is my attempt at the challenge. I wanted to use the button to mark the spot on the map but it was too small to read the “I Was Here” so I enlarged it and used the arrow.
Christina that is very nice, love the idea of using the button for the O.
