Thank you Carole. It did finally come together. Don’t know why I get stuck on this so often!
Finally….whew!….Lesson 7 with mask and dots and a few other things thrown in. I happened to see a repeat special performance on TV of Roy Orbison on the weekend. I was reminded what an amazing talent he was. I’ve always been a fan. More now than even then.
I have enjoyed all the Masks lessons, but I have to say that they ate up a lot of my time. I had to re-do and re-work so many of them so many times! Slow learner here. Thanks Carole and everyone for the creative contributions and the support. I learned so much, but will forget much of it too.
In this project, I could’ve moved the mask and photo around (as per instructions), but I was so pleased that it worked at all that I didn’t want to mess with anything!

Therese, just love the lamb. Your effects worked perfectly!
Nice job Nancy. Very pretty choices of pix and colours.
Christiane, you did it! and I love the colours. I am the same as you: it “takes me a while” but I do get there!
Hi all, I’m about ready to throw in the towel on Lesson 7. I can create the border out of dots with the paintbrush, but FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I cannot convert that into a MASK. And I’ve tried so many times! I’ve followed the written directions I made from the first video, then re-watched that video, then copied and pasted Carole’s instructions from the lesson into a Word document, and followed those instructions. Nope, not working for me.
In the screenshot, I have hidden the photo but included the layers palette at right. Help, please……! Someone…..
Hi Albertan Susan, at least we don’t have snow on the ground…but that could change any day in March! Thanks for the encouragement.
Kind words, Lynda. Thanks. I AM really starting to enjoy this much more than I thought I would!
Love the vibrant purples! So eye-catching and welcome at this time of year!
Yes, over and over and then over and over….that’s the way for us to learn.
Lynda, great pix! And showcased nicely! I think I’ve HEARD a robin but no sighting yet.
Lesson 6 just finished (Masks). It is NOT spring here yet (in SW Ontario) but there are hints of it. We still have lovely shades of grey and brown all around. But the temperatures are getting better.
I was able to make the “lino effect”, but I really don’t much care for the result of my project. But, I DID it!

Good work, Christiane! I’m a rookie too, so I appreciate how much work it is to learn the steps. Keep at it!
From Lesson 5 (Masks). The photo is one by Bobbi Goodyear (US). This is a lesson I could do with few glitches! So no doubt I will be using the technique ‘way too often. I wanted to add a frame, but I thought it might be overkill.
After Sue Thomas helped me, I was able to finish Lesson 4 (Masks). I wanted something sweet and not political to counterbalance the everyday horror that is the news. I love owls. This is a photo from the ‘net. (This was so much easier than converting to a mask as happened in the first 3 lessons! I think I like it!)

Oh, that worked. Such a small, simple thing and yet it had me in a flap! Thanks again, Sue.
Ok, had some time, got started on Lesson 4 Masks. I can do the brushing and so on, but when I add background fill (trying some colours), I still see the transparent checkerboard pattern. What am I NOT doing or doing incorrectly? Gr-r-r-r!
Sue Thomas, you are such a bright light for all of us who are still struggling to learn the ins-and-outs of PSP. Your designs are always inspiring, and your thoughtful comments are helpful. Thanks. I love bees too. But we have so many fewer in my area than in years gone by. I hope they don’t become “artifacts”.
Hi Christiane, It’s great you have joined. You will find a friendly, supportive group here and you will feel welcome. You will not find a better teacher than Carole!
Just today, when Lesson 7 has come out, am I finishing Lesson 3! When something works – and I don’t know why – I just go with the result. The first kaleidoscope image for the background that came up is the one I accepted. I don’t “do” scrapbooking in the traditional sense (weddings, births, big events) so this one to me feels “off” and unfinished. But I did it, and it worked for the most part.
In Lesson 2, I could NOT get the flood fill tool to fill in the background with the plaid I was finally able to make. Working with that many layers is just a little overwhelming, and I keep selecting the wrong layer and have to adjust it up and down in the Layers palette to try to achieve what I think I need to do. Then I just get tired of it and walk away. Sigh.
This is a pic of one of my college students from years ago on her special day. Not my photo, but one they had a professional take. I added a bit of light into the background of it b/c it just looked “flat” to me in the layout.

Oh Susan, that’s gonna be my new patron saint for sure!
Gerry, I just love it! It made me laugh and I need that!
Hi Ann, I bought Affinity for my macbook some time ago. But I’ve never learned it much since I got so involved with PSP. My brain, I think, can only learn one thing at a time. It would be difficult to transpose lessons from here to another program.
Thanks Susan. It helps to know others understand. And walking away (from PSP, from the news, from the darn vet!) once in a while is a GOOD thing, as you said.
It is so kind of Carole to express her empathy in these posts. While my parents came from other parts of eastern Europe, long ago, I have so much DNA from that area (I do genealogy) that it affects my thoughts and my heart as well. A democracy being attacked by a dictator…it is just unfathomable. And nothing is being done…just a lot of talk and foot stomping.
I have no roots in Ukraine, but my parents did come from eastern europe. It’s just the overall sadness of how little the world has changed in nearly 100 years that breaks my heart.
That carved pole is beautiful. What a great photo to select.
Thanks Lynda. I knew people on here would be kind…and it helps!
Oh Sue, it’s the “paste as new image” that I was missing! I was using the Ctrl+V command. I am still working on it! Thanks.
Thanks Ann. My heart is so heavy. What a world! It’s all I could think of when I was selecting photos to use.
