Pirrko, Love the layout and feel of your project. Really lovely.
When I looked at the criteria and saw stitches and barcode, I could not imagine what I might make. But I recently went on the prohibition tour that is the subject of this project. I had a doily, downloaded some simple stitches (which I’ve never attempted to do), then made the rest. I like these random assignments. When I have the time, they do challenge me.
I really enjoy the “personalization” of the issues that the members’ questions bring up. Sometimes an entire post or master class is not needed to set some of us on the right path. The straight-forward explanation you always provide is most helpful. Looking forward to the Q & A.
I do intend to attend “live” this time. I did download that script for converting shapes and tried it. But, as with .abr files, I guess that sometimes they don’t work so well.
Now, another question, and maybe covered elsewhere, but what is the rule or guideline for (a) promote selection to layer, and (b) promote background layer in the Layers Palette?
Another question just popped into my head: Can you speak a bit about v. 2023 since Corel is sending out messages about it. Have you had a chance to try any of its new features?
I just watched the July Q & A that I was not able to attend. Wow! So many questions that I was happy to hear/see answered! For the August session, I would like to ask about the Layers Palette BUTTONS (the horizontal toolbar below the Blend and Opacity). I’m not very familiar with what they do and how important they are for specific tasks.
Also, I have tried downloading some new shapes online, but they don’t seem to import; at least, they don’t show up when I click on shapes. PSP doesn’t provide many different shapes it seems. (Sample shot below.)
I know there are more questions rattling around in my head, but enough for now. Thanks.
Thank you Rene! I do recall that I read that post a while back…and forgot! Thanks for the kick in the memory!
Not doing any challenges, haven’t had much time for projects. But I did “create” a mask using brushes! And it works! Not a big deal to others likely, but really big deal to me since I always struggle with downloaded masks and getting them to fit and work properly.
In fact, many of the things I download (free) like brushes or scripts are sometimes problematic. For example, this set of six free brushes (Brusheezy or Deviant Art, can’t recall), won’t appear in my brush list, but they are in the folder for brushes, in PSP format, in Corel PSP 2022. This shot shows the folder they originally appeared in after download. They should work, right?
Welcome Iona! You will find this a friendly and supportive place to learn. Carole’s and others’ skills are just amazing and they love to share and assist. I’m not a scrapbooker either, but I have learned to enjoy “playing” with the possibilities of what PSP can do. The creative content on these pages will delight you I’m sure.
I had no idea what was required for this challenge. But then, BINGO, I got it!
So…under the N: yarn, checkered, etc. It was the idea of yarn that got me looking for images, and I liked the idea of a child doing some knitting (I always wished I had learned). Just a bunch of saved elements thrown together. Seeing it posted here, I think it needs some kind of outside border or edge to make it look more finished. But I’m done.

Not sure I followed the “spirit” of the challenge, but I wanted to jump in. Some lovely ones here already! All the variations are just so fascinating.
After watching Fantasy World 2 on the weekend, a poem I learned as a child kept running through my head. I just wanted to see if I could make it “real” with images and graphics from the ‘net. I didn’t do much to the elements, but I’m pleased that it worked at all. It didn’t resize very well.
Thanks Susan Ewart and Ann Seeber for kind words. I’m in the mood for fun, not so much challenge these days. Haven’t seen any hummers here yet, but the birdsong in the morning soothes my soul. Ah, spring!
I’ve never done a challenge before, but I needed something fun to work on and tried. I hope there are more like this.
Wishing you a wonderful birthday on Earth Day! Hope you have lots of cake and a glass of something special! Thank you for the sale and for all your kind and patient help. Finding your site has been such a great thing. It’s a real community of creativity and friendliness, and a nice place to spend time. Cheers!
Thanks Carole. I will try that. I like to know how the script works before I rely on it. Or, at least I think I do. The whole mask process was a real learning curve. But I’m glad I went through it.
I can’t even imagine trying to learn/work with PSP with instructions in a language other than my own! It’s challenging enough without trying to figure out words and expressions in that language. I admire those that are doing that! And, to use an idiom, I “take my hat off” to you. To me, this whole mitred corner thing sounds a bit daunting.
Lesson 6. A bit behind but enjoying all the tricks and tips. Used alternative template. My own pix. I thought I posted this yesterday….? Sorry if it’s a dupe.
Hank, love the Detroit layout! Grew up going there often as child and teenager. Lived not far from Windsor. Now living back in the area and looking forward to being able to go back sometime soon. I remember “old Detroit” really well. Just not the same anymore.
Thanks Sue and Carole for the tip. I haven’t quite worked it out yet to create my own “quick” border but I think I will be able to.
Lesson 5, using alternative template. As Lynda pointed out with her layout of Ukraine, it is much on my mind too. But mine is not celebratory in nature.
Lesson 4 Template: Something went wrong with the shadow and white frame on the large framed photo. But by that point, I was past caring. I wanted to do the steps and correct as much as possible as I went along, but by then I was too weary to try and fix that. Also, forgot to blur the masked photo to soften the edges.
I am SO happy with the two scripts: Open rename & Clip To It. I’m glad Carole made me go through the l-o-n-g version of doing those steps so I would REALLY appreciate the shortcuts!
I do foster dogs. The one in lower right is a long-term one (with me still). The two in the frames in the centre found a new home together. And the wee girl in the mask crossed the Rainbow Bridge after two years here. I always get the older dogs, usually with some health issues, but that’s the point. I want them to spend their remaining time in comfort and be spoiled.
Question: If I save the “page border” layer from this template, can I use it again in other projects? I’ve often wondered how to create that effect, with a thin border. The double border is even better as an option.
Thanks Carole and Ann! I knew it would be some small thing that I was overlooking! (adding icons)
Minka, I can so feel your message. What a sad state of affairs when nature is being pushed away. Love your project!
General question please: When I click View>Customize I do NOT get an option to choose the Scripts tab. There isn’t one! This is all I see. What am I not doing?
Day 3 Template. Love those two scripts to speed up the process. The ClipToIt is a lifesaver b/c it creates a mask and I don’t need to be “traumatized” by making my own to fit a photo into!!! Brilliant. Now I have to get them on the toolbar as icons.
Hi all, love all the projects and the colours and creativity. Having fun with learning about templates. I think, perhaps, they may be more work than making my own layouts….? When I got to the part in the video where Carole says “masks”, I almost shut down the computer and ran! But that wouldn’t be helpful to me. So I carried on. I watched the video once and then tackled the project, seeing how much I could do from memory.
I didn’t have a kit (mine are also dispersed into separate folders), so I just pulled in this and that and got kinda close to what I wanted (southwest USA vibe). Images from Pixabay or Unsplash. I’m sure I’ve forgotten to do something, but I was just relieved it didn’t all blow up on me!
I’m in it too. I learn something every time I watch a lesson (several times) so even if it’s considered “basic”, it’s good for me. I have no idea what photos to use even though Carole advised us to gather some. I’ll just wing it for now. Likely most will come from the ‘net.
Here’s Lesson 1 which I was able to do. I have avoided templates up till now, so this is helpful. ***Just realized, after I uploaded the image, that I forgot to do the “bubbles”…..which explains why the layout looks so bare!

Thanks Ann! Glad The Big O has other fans who swoon for his voice!
