R = Research
My letter B is for “Boom van het jaar” which means Tree of the Year. This Tilia platyphyllos won the Dutch election for tree of the year in 2020 and came six in the European election. Its branches are very heavy and have to be supported by an iron frame. Its name is the “Moeierboom” meaning Mothertree and it is still giving new shoots that are cultivated and planted elsewhere. Nowadays a treesurgeon is monitoring the tree and its maintenance. Only a couple of weeks ago a drunken motorist crashed into the frame but the tree wasn’t harmed but the frame had to be mended.
The same fonts, another template and the background is a photo of the tree with a blend mode (Luminance) and a little blur.
L = Long Covid
Rene I like your idea of Y-streets and I checked my village’s streetplan. But no, no Y-streets, if we once had them I don’t know it are all T-streets and many crossings are changed to roundabouts these days. For the X I have choosen X-mas and no that’s not Dutch but it is commenly used. Each language has its own difficult letters I suspect. It will be interesting to see what everybody is coming up with. It will certainly keep us busy this year.
H = Headache
E = Essential shops like pharmacies, supermarkets, gasstations which are open during lockdowns
Monique thank you, but I’m a bit tired of all those flowers I have done and yes I do have some lovely monograms with flowers which I will use another time. No I stick to my original plan and go for Etten-Leur! I already have lots of photos and it is easy to take the missing shots over the next months. It is just the letter Y, you know as well that we in Dutch very seldom have words starting with Y; trust me I used “de dikke van Dalen” and the internet. I looked for the Latin names of flowers/plants to see if I can make some sort of connection, but no not really. But it will take many month before we are at the Y. In the end I can always cheat and use a IJ instead.
Here is my take on the freebie for the year 2021. For 2020 I used photos from the series I took on flowers growing in the gardens in my neighbourhood during many walks. This year again sadly no traveling for me, so I took photos of the wild flowers I saw on my walks. I refrained from putting all the names on the page, I think that would make it way to cluttered.
Oh yah I can think of a lot of yummy things, but it’s a pity that my friends who will be interested in this alphabet album wonn’t know what “Yummy” means; I’ll have to think about it in the coming months!
Y = Yearning for the old days before the pandemic
Bonnie lovely page for the A. You have created a lot of work for the upcoming letters!
I have almost all the letters covered for this project apart from the Y. In Dutch we don’t have words starting with a Y and I cann’t think of any relation with my theme about my town with the words Yucca, Yogurt, Yin, Yen, Yankee, Yup, Yoga or Yes; they are all foreign words. But it will take a while to get to the Y, maybe I can think of something.
After the free digits with covid-masks Carole gave us the mask itself with layers so we could make our own. Yesterday I played a bit with that file and made a lot of different masks. You see many masks now becoming a fashion item as well! They appear in the same fabric and color as clothes to match a new outfit. I have no photos from covid situations and I simply don’t like to use photos from the internet (very seldom I do to complement a layout). But with this masks it’s something else; it’s colorfull and very simple with a wink!
N = Nurses…… also obvious but very essential!
Sue that’s a great idea and so very much your style. It will make a stunning decoration on your wall and I’m looking forward to the next one.
K = Knowledge
F = Frightening
After some checking if I have all the letters of the alphabet covered, I decided to go for my village of which I already have a lot of photos. In the coming months I just have to take a couple more for certain letters, but those are later in the alphabet and of course I can alter the sequence if needed. I’m planning to use the same font (Royal Initialen) for the single letters and probably the same font (Audiga script) for the remaining letters of the title. As a starting point for my layout I used the first of 26 templates that Carole gifted some time ago but I changed it somewhat to suit te photos I wanted to use. The background paper I have in my stash and is by Marissa Lerin.
The story I tell is about a skipper from my village back in 1590 who thought of a trick to conquer back Breda in the 80-Year War between Spain and Holland. I have told that story already when making my calendars.
D = Docters
Thank you both and yes Carole I will use Dutch for this project, I’m already making a list with which letter could have which photo. I’m pretty sure I can cover the whole alphabet with my flowers and I must see if can do that for my village too. And of course I will want to make something coherent that I can turn into a printed album.
Hi Carole normally we do have winter! Not so cold but most winters there will be at least a couple of days when there is thick enough ice to skate. Mostly we have a couple of days with snow and then the whole country is in disarray, trains not running on time or not at all, road trafic having problems with slippery roads. But we also can have winters that are just miserable; wet and windy. The daisies here are considered early spring plants and will appear Febuary if the weather is mild and more commonly March/April.
I’m loving the Alphabet Album Challenge and having read the above ideas I’m torn between my first thought: Flowers (that won’t come as a surprise!) and the second: The place where I live, because I have made a lot of photos for the calendar 2022 and have a lot more then are in the calendar. Probably I can sneak in some flowers too. I’ll give it some thought.
Happy New Year to you all and what better way to welcome the new year with the first sighting of a daisy. When taking a stroll today I already noticed some daisies! It’s very early but due to the extremely mild weather of the last couple of days and some evergreen plants are sprouting as well. It will get colder again, but it is nice as long as it lasts!
B = Booster
Monique lovely calendar and I hope the recipients will appreciate all the work that has gone into making them. In the end I printed 7 calendars; 6 were presents and the 7th goes on my own wall and they were all received very well.
Here is my first attempt at the triple frames technique from Sue Thomas that Michele demonstrated so nicely. Sue gave on Facebook an explanation of it. I used a photo shot on a very windy beach some time ago which on its own is rather dull. But with the frames and a couple of seagulls it is something else. It’s not perfect yet but at least the horizon is straight. The photo is pasted into the frame on the foreground, the background frame is empty.
M = Market Place
I have given it some thought. The bigger challenges I like a lot in particular the Double Take, Love Story and of course the Up-To-Date for the calendar. The last one I would miss terribly if it shouldn’t come back. I like those because they offer the opportunity to be on one project for a couple of days/weeks and seeing what others do with the same templates and tutorials gives a lot of inspiration too. I don’t like the story time challenge or any challenge where the story is the main subject with no photos. That’s because I think, how good my English may be, it’s not the language in which I want to tell those stories and if I tell them in Dutch well there are just a few people here that can read them. Wordart and subway art are of course something different.
The weekly challenges are also very welcome and give new ideas to use photos and I think the scavanger hunt is the most liked from all. Sadly I have no new ideas to offer at the moment, you cover a broad spectrum with those.
The Campus, Membership and all the activities have given me a great feeling of belonging to this wonderful community and has greatly helped in the last 2 difficcult years. Being creative and meeting the other members helps a lot to keep me healthy (mentally, physically not so much by sitting at the computer!). Your commitment and instant support are fantastic and makes it all work.
I hope for a great 2022 in all aspects for this whole community
Michele what would we do without all the wonderful things Sue is sharing with us and not only the goodies but the ideas and inspiration!!! The triple frame technique is new to me, maybe I have seen it before but at that point I wasn’t able to use it, now I will give it a try some day. Both your layouts are lovely.
I = Ideas or Inspiration to buy gifts for people who don’t have a wishlist or say I don’t need anything!
With this card I want to wish all my fellowscrappers here a wonderful Christmas in what again has been a difficult year for many of us. Being here and enjoying all the great pages has made a lot of difference and brought a lot of friendship with people all over the world. I sincerely hope that will continue next year!
Carole a special thanks to you for all the work and the great ideas like this Chritmas Countdown and I do hope that will become a tradition.
Happy Holidays and Happy 2022!
