First of all, come and say HI once you register for this bootcamp.

We want to know who else will be there, on our side to cheer everyone up.

Everyone started as a beginner, so don’t ever compare yourself to others. You will learn one tool at the time, one concept at the time and you will create one project at the time. Everyone will have different photos and possibly different supplies so every project will be different.

Once the Bootcamp is started, on January 11, 2021, you can post your projects in here.

Remember to resize your image to about 600 pixels AND saving in jpg format, before uploading it so it won’t slow down the site when we have lots of your masterpieces. Try to follow the tutorials at least enough that we can recognize what lesson you completed.

      Now, let’s get ready !

If you missed the registration link or if you found this thread before I announce it (some people are very observant), HERE it is. Share it around if you want.

Although this Bootcamp is mostly meant to help beginners, we won’t exclude anyone for “excess experience”. Some participants are back for a second round. You are always welcome. Remember that it will be the exact same tutorials so don’t be surprised. I am sure you will now do something slightly different than the previous time.

Since anyone can follow the whole Bootcamp using the trial version of PaintShop Pro, this is a perfect opportunity for anyone to give it a try and see how they like the program, so share with your friends who MIGHT consider using PaintShop Pro.

The 7 tutorials will be spaced out over almost 2 weeks. This should make it easier for participants to follow without feeling stressed (it should never be stressful!).

Hello and good morning to Cassel and everyone here, I am a complete newcomer to Paintshop(it is a Christmas gift from my Wife) or any other photo editing program so I apologise in advance for being slow and not very ‘savvy’ with the terms or tech involved in this Bootcamp. If you think I am to slow or to much of a Paintshop novice for these classes. please let me know and I will come back when I have more understanding(hopefully!) of what I am doing. Thank you and take care.

              I’m here.. (again) lol

              Hi Cindy!

Welcome, Anthony! Learning this program is fun and satisfying. This is my THIRD go round with Bootcamp. I just like the structure of assignments to keep me creating. There’s also the How To page, for complete newcomers: Look up top of this page and select Classes/Beginner/Start Here. There’s also Classes/Beginner/Basic Scrap Course 1. Carole Cassel has all our bases covered to learn PSP. This Bootcamp is also pretty basic, so stay and learn! Enjoy!

Here’s a photo of my Dad and his mother; my grandmother, Henrietta Terwilliger.

I have a few stories to tell about her! 😉

Oh, here’s my setup for my PSP 2021. In the top toolbar under Windows, I unchecked the Tabbed Documents so each image I use has its own border and rulers, etc.

                      Hello everyone,

I’m back for round 2 of the Bootcamp.  I’ve upgraded to 2021 and am still learning the basics as well as a few more advanced features.  I made calendars for everyone for Christmas and am hoping to be more creative after this and the Basic course I’m also completing.  I too have unchecked the Tabbed Documents (once I found it with the help of the Basic course.  It is a lot easier to keep track of the pictures when you can see them and not have to remember all of the file names.  Off we go…..

I have 2021 PSP as a Christmas gift. I have never posted so I don’t know how to put in my photo. I did all the customizations and set my workspace to light grey and my background to white. I don’t understand what I am seeing when I turn on the rulers. the numbers go from 0 to 400, etc. Looks like it is counting pixels by 100’s is that right?
Need help on how to post my photo. I set it to 300X400 pixels as it is a rectangle. Is that the right numbers to upload?

Hi everyone, I have 2021, and use the edit workspace, I have it set to dark grey for the color, and my palette is just the standard palette.  Here is a photo I will be using.

Here is a picture of the picture I plan to use as well as my workspace preferences.  I like to keep the Organizer open at the bottom, as well as the Navigation (list of files) on the left.  I am lucky to have a large screen so that still leaves me quite a bit of space for the pictures.  I’ll be working with the Loon picture on the right which was taken from the one on the left, but with the vertical branch removed.  (Found the Magic Fill function during the Basic course.)  Looking forward to Day 2.

Day 1  I love the options for workspace colors and positioning menus and palettes that Corel offers in their PSP programs.

I like the darker backgrounds due to eye issues.  I’ve used PSP for a few years but love watching tutorials because I can always learn new tips or tricks along the way.  Thank you Carole!

I like my editing back ground the medium gray. I haven’t changed the toolbars or palettes just yet as I am not even to the Beginner group yet.  ?   I hope to catch up using this Bootcamp.  It is the perfect place for me to be, and I bow down to Miss Carole for being so patient with me.    I will be working on a Winter Wonderland series.  Here in MN we get beautiful snow covered trees sometimes.   I spend hours tromping thru the woods and parks in my area taking hundreds of photos.  This one is of my friends house.  She didn’t know I drove by and snapped a photo of her house.  I had it printed and sent to her by mail.  .

Hi, my name is Jacques and I come from the Netherlands.
In recent years I have been on Bonaire, an island in the Caribbean, during the winter.
In November I enjoyed participating in the previous session and learned a lot.

                                        Hi Cassel
There is still a problem when I want to download a PDF from the Campus BLOG.
I still see: Failed – Network Error
I think the problem is with the Campus.
                                        Greetings, Jacques

Lynn, looking forward to your projects.

Cindy, welcome back. You keep improving with every Bootcamp you join!

Anthony, welcome to the Campus. This Bootcamp was designed with the very beginners in mind, and if anything is unclear, this is the place to post your questions. I read every post, and respond to every request (although you will see that some members might be faster than I am!)

Ann S., welcome back! I am sure you will either learn or perfect something else. Looking forward to reading the stories about your family.

Leslie, welcome back. Yes, with a wider monitor, you have the luxury of space! Maybe some day I will get myself a wider monitor!

Mary, welcome to the Campus and the Bootcamp. For the size of the images, you can resize to 600 pixels, which will be a little larger when we want to see more of the details of a scrapbook page. As for the Rulers, the numbers are set depending on the unit you chose for your PSP. By default, it might be in Pixels, which would explain what you see. I also use pixels because it is independent of the resolution. You will often hear and read mentions of sizes in pixels, so that is exactly what you see in the Rulers.

Jennifer, welcome to the Bootcamp. Is that a photo of somewhere you went for vacation?

Deana, I also agree that the ability to customize one’s workspace is a great feature of PSP!

Annie T., welcome back. You really enjoy all those challenges and tutorials, don’t you? 🙂

Clarine, welcome to the Bootcamp. When you join the Beginner’s Workshop, I hope it won’t confuse or overwhelm you as it is a completely separate program on a separate site. Teaching is very different. Let us know if anything gets confusing.

Annie, I also started with PSP7, many years ago. You are welcome to post in your language, but would you be ok to also copy in English using Google Translate? I know some members can read Dutch, but others can’t.

Jacques, welcome back. Are you going to make me envious of your nice and warm weather when we battle snow storms here? 😉  For the pdf issue, does it only apply to the blog posts or also with other downloads in the Campus?

I’ve discovered a new [for me] function of my Windows 10: If I highlight some text here in the Forum and right click I can choose “Translate to English” and the text magically transforms, and stays that way! I could read Annie’s post that way and I suspect I’ll do it with Jnet, too, when she posts in French. 😉

I’ve been playing with the sandwich and table setting layers project all day. I’ve already done it twice already and enjoyed tweaking it again using techniques I’ve picked up since my first two Bootcamps. I am going to post all three versions so you can see the progress. #1 has the blue tablecloth, #2 has the red check with the whole wheat bread, etc. the my newest one, #3, has a blue and white tablecloth, swirly coffee, the plates now have red edges, the flower has changed along with the flower dish color, I tried to get the cut sandwich to look more realistic and added toothpicks and I still like my pickles on the side! The tablecloths are all patterns using the flood fill tool; the coffee came from a photo; I used the Magic Wand to select the edges of the dishes and fill with color with the flood fill tool. The flower was from my stash of elements from various kits I’ve found, mostly freebies. The toothpicks are from a brush Carole had us make for Christmas garlands and the size, color and angle can be controlled on the brush palette.

Why do parts of the sandwich become Raster layers? What does that mean and why weren’t the rest of the parts labeled as Raster?  I thought I could change the background behind the table settings and food but it just covered all of it.

I don’t really understand using the material pallette and the flood fill bucked.  I thought I could just pick a color and use the dropper to flood fill as if it was a tablecloth.  It never went behind the items and never kept the pink color I chose.

What video do you have for me to learn the material pallette better or is it another lesson coming up? Also, there was no mention of how to save it – do I make a copy?  I know how to do the 600 pixels as you asked but then it asked about merging it all – so I said yes.

Mary, any new raster layer will be called Raster1 and Raster2 and such by default. However, you can always change that by activating the layer, right-clicking, and choosing Rename. If you want to add a background, like a tablecloth, you are probably doing almost everything right. You need to add a new raster layer, which you can do though Layers > New Raster layer and then fill it the way you did. Then, since you want the tablecloth to go UNDER, you will slide it down in the Layers palette. When you picked the pink color, what did it fill with?

In order to save, you go to File > Save as… and yes, when you save in jpg, you will always get that “warning” that it will be flattened. But it looks like you did it!!!

I am holding my breath that my Table and Sandwich upload properly.  Bam, and there it is.  🙂   I removed completely all of the onions–YUK.  I moved the tomatoes to the little saucer plate as I am not a fan of those either.  But, I did however add lots of pickles.   Gotta have pickles.  I learned how to put the blue table cloth under it all from Mary’s question above and Carole’s response.  Thank you for the bonus lesson.  🙂     Ann, I love your creative tables/sandwiches.  Good job!!!
