I need to check for links as some people have had issues downloading various freebies in the Campus and on the store blog. Can you tell me if these links would trigger the downloads or not.
9-Short link from server and bitly
10- Short link from Amazon and bitly
Which ones of those links DO trigger a download, and which ones DON’T?
I will start troubleshooting by identifying various locations and medium for the downloads.
Tell me what browser(s) you used and your Windows version.
December 1, 2020 at 6:25 pm #49959Both links in this triggered the download for me. The freebie link at the bottom of the article also worked and I got the email with the download link, which also worked. It looks like all 3 links produced the same download.
December 1, 2020 at 6:48 pm #49963Thanks.
Looking for more testers, especially those who could NOT download before.
December 1, 2020 at 8:12 pm #49966“Shorter link” did not work.
Link in email did not work. Spun around for awhile then returned to the email.
December 1, 2020 at 8:19 pm #49968All the links worked for me.
Iam using the Firefox Brouser to connect to the web site and receive my emails as web mail.
December 4, 2020 at 10:38 pm #500841, 4 and 6 worked for me. I use Chrome for my browser.
1-Snowman DIY from amazonS3
4-Longer link from server
6-Longer link from GD
December 5, 2020 at 12:16 am #50088I am using Firefox 83.0 in Window 10.
1 and 3 trigger an actual download. 5 and 6 take me to a directory page showing the files, but they aren’t clickable. 2 and 4 do nothing at all.
Good luck with your testing!
December 5, 2020 at 12:22 am #50089I also tested using Microsoft Edge 86.0 in Windows 10
2 would not download at all. 5 and 6 gave me an error message “Couldn’t preview file. There was a problem with the preview. Retrying…”. 1, 3, and 4 downloaded.
December 5, 2020 at 12:46 am #500912 and 3 were the only ones that didn’t trigger the d/l
you can always to call me on the phone ild do what you need 24/7 🙂 or email
December 5, 2020 at 12:50 am #500942 & 3 were the only ones that did not work for me Carole. Google Chrome is my browser.
December 5, 2020 at 5:25 am #50100Hi Carole,
2 and 3 didn’t work .I use google chrome
December 5, 2020 at 5:32 am #50101I have again tried the downloads and all worked for me.
5 & 6 showed a directory of the files in the zip and I had to click the download icon in the top right corner to download the zipped files.
I amusing Firefox brouser on windows 10 (but not the latest upgrade as this stops the touch pad working on my computer)
Tried on another computer with the latest version of windows 10 ver 20H2 and for 5 + 6 I geta message “Coudn’t preview file There was a problem with the network. Retrying”
Using the download button displayed below this message does download the zip
December 5, 2020 at 9:00 am #50106Bonjour Carole,
December 5, 2020 at 9:58 am #50107Numbers 1, 4, 5, & 6 worked for me. I use Win 10 and Chrome. If you need any more info, let me know.
December 5, 2020 at 11:18 am #50110I have added two more links to test (using a different site and a different version of the shortening plugin). Would those work any better?
December 5, 2020 at 11:25 am #501117 & 8 don’t do anything for me.
December 5, 2020 at 11:33 am #50112It does seem like the shortened links are problematic for MOST (not all) so it MIGHT point to a fault in the shortening plugin. Still searching.
December 5, 2020 at 12:24 pm #50116Neither 7 or 8 work for me. Windows 10, Chrome
December 5, 2020 at 12:39 pm #50118Win 10, Chrome browser, 1, 4, 5 and 6 worked.
December 5, 2020 at 1:27 pm #50120Win 7 – Edge browser – all 10 worked fine
Just a side note: the time posted on my message is an hour ahead of me? Don’t know if that affects anything but the Campus is still slow for me.
December 5, 2020 at 1:41 pm #50122Yes Ann, the site is still slow. Actually, the programmer who should be working on it is also quite slow!
It is interesting that all the links work for you on W7!
Although the link shortener plugin SEEMED to be causing issues, I tried another one that is NOT a plugin, and it does not seem to solve the problem, so maybe Windows/browsers are becoming picky with shortened links in general??
December 5, 2020 at 2:30 pm #50125Hi, 1,4,5 and 6 worked for me. By 5 and 6 from GD I get to see the files and can then use the GD download button, just as in the email you send me. I’m on Windows 10 with the latest updates installed and on Chrome browser.
If you want me to test more I’m more then happy to do so. Ofcourse we have a time difference of 6 hours, so my answers may come a little bit later.
I looked at the results from the others and there does not seem an obvious denominator between us.
Good luck!
December 5, 2020 at 2:37 pm #50126Yes Corrie, that seems to be the problem: not one common denominator identified yet, other than the shortened versions are problematic. After that point, it is still a mystery why SOME can download, while others can’t.
I’ll keep posting tests in this thread, if I do.
Thanks for helping me out.
December 5, 2020 at 3:56 pm #501321, 4, 5 and 6 work. Windows 10, Chrome. When I clicked on the forum. 502 code popped up, server is down. tried again, and got in to do the testing.
December 5, 2020 at 7:45 pm #50135Tried again this morning Cassel and 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 10 would not work. Win 10, Google Chrome. 🙁
December 7, 2020 at 8:19 am #50193Bon matin Carole, j’ai essayé les nouveaux liens 7 – 8 – 9 – 10.
Bonne semaine!
December 8, 2020 at 11:58 am #50239Here are more tests for various short links
9-Short link from server and bitly
10- Short link from Amazon and bitly
Those are all short links that were problematic, at least for some. The long links didn’t seem to cause issues.
I have done some edits to those links. Do they work for you now? Especially for those that didn’t work before?
December 8, 2020 at 12:12 pm #502412, 3, 7, & 8 took a few seconds, but they ultimately worked.
9 & 10…nuttin’, honey
December 8, 2020 at 8:00 pm #50253Same as Michele for me Carole. 9 & 10 gave a half second flicker and that was that!
December 8, 2020 at 9:21 pm #50257On Windows 10 in Firefox, all the links work. Although #7 was really slow.
On Windows 10 in Edge (Chromium edition), all links work. No slow downs.
