Theme – Garden

As summer is getting a bit cooler, nature will soon be getting ready for its dormant winter (at least, in the Northern hemisphere). But throughout the summer, many people tend to their garden, from early spring with seedlings to late fall for harvest. Do you document your garden activities? Let's have a look at a few angles to scrapbook about your garden.

Flowers

Although this might be the most obvious way to capture images of your garden, it is still one of the most colorful. Take pictures of those white, red, pink, yellow flowers. Take a wide angle shot or a close up!

Veggie garden

After working for the whole summer, don't you want to showcase the result of all that work? Have a look at how tall those plants got. Yes, tender loving care can do that.

Herb garden

Yes, you can grow herbs in your garden (and in some cases, you can grow some inside if your growing season is too short in your area). And why not get the kids into it too? At least, those plants are often "pint size", perfect for smaller gardeners.

Water garden

There is more than just flower gardens and veggie gardens. You can have water gardens, or even rock garden. Different styles and different purposes too. Even though I don't have a green thumb or the time to take care of a garden, I still love to look at them and appreciate all the work that goes into caring for them.

Kids

Whether they are helping you with sowing, watering, weeding, or harvesting, kids can be helpful, and it would be a great way for them to be introduced to the cycle of life, to some food they might not always see in the various "growing" form, and the basic principle of gardening.

Of course, kids in the garden does not ALWAYS mean helpful presence. Sometimes, kids just love to look and play (and maybe sometimes, pick something they shouldn't?). But you will always have the smile of a child discovering something in that garden.

Public garden

Whether you don't have room or time or inclination to grow a garden, you can always find some public gardens to enjoy. Those can often be larger than you would be able to handle, have flowers that are more delicate and require more care than you can give, or have super unique features that are just above and beyond what most individual gardeners can do and maintain (let's say they usually have the staff and the budget for it!).

Equipment

We know how Mother Nature works her magic all summer long, but you will need to help her a bit. What equipment do you use? Do you have a special sprinkler system? Or unique tools you built? Document those too. Who knows what garden equipment will look like in 50 years!

Inhabitants

As much as we think of gardens as only plants (flowers or veggies) there is also some wildlife. Small ones, but they are there too, and they are important for the care of the garden. Whether it is ants airing the soil, bees pollenizing the plants, or maybe some unwanted snails, you will have some sooner or later, so you can document those too.

Harvest

After a whole summer of work over that garden, it will be time to harvest and enjoy the fruit of your labour (or the veggies), whether you will eat them fresh, or preserve them, is up to you, but you will be able to taste for yourself.

So what will your take be on scrapbooking your garden (or someone else's)? Be proud of your work in the garden. I wish I had the patience to grow one like those in the photos above.
